Just ran a test and confirmed very slow. 10kbps down and 180 kbps up. Yes you read that right...10 kbps.
It's probably because only one tower in that very populated area has 4g. Once the other towers nearby receive updates the speeds will level out. It's all about site density and how many people are connected to the site. Think about it, at the moment one tower is covering Belmont, parts of Vanderbilt, Music Row, the Melrose area, 100 Oaks, and a part of I-65.

So will LTE on SMR have a better chance of being deployed in areas with coverage issues due to terrain? Example: the hills of Tennessee(rural coverage is a nightmare at the moment)

Try a different browser. I'm using Chrome and it takes a minute to load but it works perfect after that.

I noticed the server sensorly uses is the same one no matter where I go, possibly it could be bogging down the server if a good amount of people are doing speed tests..

He is talking about bogging down the Sprint network. Everytime you do a speedtest it uses a good amount of the bandwidth that is available to all the users connected to that sector. So when you want to test speed you should just do one speedtest sparingly.

The same thing happened in Nashville in areas they were working on towers
Call quality also got very bad for a few weeks at one point if I am not mistaken.

3G speeds are great around Lipscomb University and Green Hills mall area. Anyone have any clues as to when LTE could pop up around there?

It could be a number of different reasons but it's most likely too many people on one tower or insufficient backhaul.
