  1. Wonder why they cancel some and not others?

I am wondering if the "validation" process (whatever that means) is what's causing these hang-ups?

Does anybody know what they're validating?

Sent from my Sprint iPhone 5, not the old one (using Tapatalk 2).

I used an old TravelEx card.  Is it worth putting a real credit/debit card on there?

  2. Certainly looks that way. A number of those cities (NYC, Jacksonville, Nashville) shouldn't be on there given the number of pretty big holes in coverage, but they're feeling the pinch from T-Mobile. That's the only reason I can come up with that they came out with this list.

I can confirm Nashville shouldn't be anywhere near launch status from my experience.

  3. The trouble with the map is that it is too high level and makes it look like their is a lot 4G LTE in certain areas.  I live in the Detroit area and I use Sensorly.   However, I rarely get 4G LTE.  And when I do, it is not usually very fast.  What I do notice is that 4G LTE goes in and out on a daily basis and from block to block.  For example, there is a restaurant I go to and I get 4G LTE their about 50% of the time.  The other 50% I only get 3G.  Another example, I never get 4G near my house, but Sensorly shows it up and down my block.

In addition, Sprint has not even announced Detroit Metropolitan area yet.  So, what I suspect is happening is they are testing and turning on and off 4G at different locations.  I did notice the reception at my house became really bad for about 1 week and then recovered.

Of course this could just be my phone.  :)   I have a Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE.

I am also an Evo LTE user and I can tell you about half of your issues are most likely the phone. Oh well upgrade time is less than a year away now!!

  4. Huh? on highways could lessen the load I would think (not only on highway but all the people served by those towers) unless you are talking rural highways outside 300-500K+ population centers? In that case plenty of coverage/capacity likely already.

I believe he means highways will not be covered by 2500 because it covers such a small area that a car moving at highway speeds would not be in it's coverage zone for very long.

  5. While I am looking forward to the promise of 4G (we have a 3G puck at the top of a rohn tower...using Millenicom's resold Sprint 50GB/mo plan for rural Internet), I must say that 3G in Lenoir City has improved drastically over the past week or so. In the mornings, we used to average 1mbps/512kbps, and in the evenings we used to average 128kbps/32kbps. This week we've been at 1.3mbps/512kbps in the mornings and around 768kbps/256kbps in the evenings with burst over 1mbps. I have actually been able to watch a little Netflix. :) Signal level has improved very slightly between the winter and now, but the noise level has remained very low. I've known for a long time that the bandwidth problem was on Sprint's side.

Wow that's really interesting to a suburban dweller like myself. Quick question, what's the point of having a fiber line as compared to coax or even copper if the bandwidth is so minimal?

  6. You were getting the tower near the end L&N Station. Children's is just about the limit in that direction. I've started getting the LTE signal when pulling off 40 onto Alcoa Hwy. But, then I lose it as I exit onto Kingston Pike / Cumberland. Tower seems to have a decent reach at the moment.

Also, just fyi, signal bars don't mean anything in relation to LTE. You'll need to check in settings for signal strength. Pretty sure this is accurate but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's correct except for CM 10.1 roms

  7. My phone, while parked on 800 MHz, will sometimes jump back to PCS while it's connecting the call. Now, I've only seen this happen twice, where the 800 MHz signal was around -102 and the PCS signal was around -63, and also using Digiblur's PRL for service not officially launched...

Edit: That being said, I also experienced (on the same signal on the same sector/site), that my phone refused to jump back to PCS, even with the 800 MHz signal being unusable. The call got more and more garbled, faded, and then dropped completely - in an area fully covered by PCS. Only happened once. Will have to test again.

Well if your phone is using the stronger signal is that not exactly how it should work?

  8. Yeah, the last time I was in Gatlinburg the 3G was lighting fast, fastest I'd seen for Sprint since I've been with them (2 years). I've seen on Sensorly.com that their is 4G in the Dandridge area and some right before exit 407. So I would think (hope) that it wouldn't be long for the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg areas as I take little trips to that area about 5/6 times a year.

5 or 6 times a year!? Man that's a lot of as seen on TV junk
