  1. . . . Wifi calling SMS is not working on any Sprint phone as far as I'm aware.  . . .

Non-iphone to non-iPhone still won't work if you don't have native service (and are relying on wifi calling)  . . .

WiFi SMS on Android seems to be working fine for me:

In fact, all of WiFi calling seems to have become more stable and reliable over the past few weeks.

  2. Hey, in my backwoods area, T-Mobile has twice the cell sites as Sprint. They use microwave backhaul here, as well as Verizon. All 4 carriers here have issues. I'm not even speaking of my market.

Don't waste your keystrokes arguing with him -- he feeds on it.  Looking at his screenshot, it is possible that he was on WiFi, not even on LTE.

  3. How could it be BS when that's my experience and observation? Everything I said in that post is based on observation and experience. I'm not really making a blanket statement or putting words in anyone's mouth either.

Perhaps it's this that you didn't like: "If anyone knows anyone that has or used to have Sprint then they'll probably try to talk them out of it." Well let me clarify, again that applies based on my experience and observation. I don't know anyone with Sprint that actually likes them, at least enough to recommend it. Except of course my National Sales rep contact who is also a lifelong family friend. She would never say a bad thing about her employer but she also tells it like it is.

Actually, "If anyone knows anyone . . ." is exactly the phrase I object to.  It is not based on your personal experience, but upon you extrapolating your personal experience onto other people ("anyone").  I certainly respect your personal experience, and you have reported it abundantly in the past.

Based on your experience, it seems that Sprint in northwest Indiana is lagging.  However, not everyone who has had Sprint in Chicagoland has had the same negative results you have had. For example, I have observed a lot of territory on the west, northwest, and north suburbs, and in the City itself, and have had consistently good results, especially in the past year or so.

So all that I am saying is that there are parts of the region which support your personal observations, and there are parts (probably many more) which don't.  People in this region who want the absolute best phone and data coverage probably should not choose Sprint, but should consider Verizon -- and be prepared to pay a lot of money for their choice.  I can't think of any good reason to pick AT&T or T-Mobile hereabouts.  But I can certainly recommend Sprint.

  4. He's clearly not been with Sprint before, or in a long time. Every single person I know that used to have Sprint say nothing but bad things about them. So the word of mouth thing would only be working with people that haven't used them before. Maybe several years from now when the good word outweighs the bad then it'll start "converting" all the bad mouthers over to good mouthers.

If anyone knows anyone that has or used to have Sprint then they'll probably try to talk them out of it.

I personally won't recommend any carrier, but will tell them

to try it, and present as many facts as they'll listen to.

With all due respect, much of that post is BS. I personally have had Sprint in Chicagoland for over 15 years, and I would not hesitate to recommend it. I have a significant number of family and friends who feel the same.

  5. Not a lawyer, but this strikes me as overreach for a Massachusetts state court.  Now we have seen 6 out of the minimum of 14 pages of this document.  I would like to see the rest.

You're right, it is a Massachusetts STATE court. How can it possibly have jurisdiction in any other state?

  6. The posted articles and court order do not define the exact meaning of the "cities" which are affected.  I'm sure that there are documents somewhere which do define this.  My question:  If the order states that "Chicago" cannot be turned off, does this mean the City of Chicago or the Sprint Chicago Market.  I live in the Chicago Market, but I am over 30 miles from the nearest Chicago city limit, so is WiMax affected where I live?  I could ask the same question for all 75 "cities" named.

Added: I'm sure Sprint has very high-priced teams of lawyers asking this same question, and others even more aggressive.  I expect that we will see them charge out of Overland Park with their legal guns blazing in the days ahead.  There is too much future revenue involved for Sprint not to be aggressive.

  7. Has anyone else noticed that WiFi calling has become more reliable lately?  On my GS5, I am getting virtually no unexpected disconnects, and when I leave home and return, WiFi calling reconnects almost instantly.  This seems to have been happening for about the last week.

(Of course, as soon as I post this, my WiFi calling will melt down completely . . . )

  8. Well then, I guess that was a disaster! Odd that its working fine on all of my devices, but I think I know why. There are some significant changes in the 6.0 SDK that forced a lot of rewriting behind the scenes. This is why I take baby steps with beta testing.. ;-)

I most likely will not be able to get an update out until later tonight at the earliest. I saw several logs and bug reports in my inbox so hopefully I can figure it out quickly.

A whole day without SCP? Noooooooooooooooo! My life no longer has any meaning! (Sob!)

  9. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, the new SCP beta instantly crashes on my GS5.  It sometimes appears to flash an error message, but too quickly to read.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:  Strangely, the SCP icon in the status bar continues even after the screen blows up, and pulling down the status bar shows SCP detail, But the SCP screen simply won't stay alive.

  10. well I am not a professional however...

    http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/s/ownership-summary

soft bank holds                                 3,250,596,924 shares  or roughly %83 of total out standing shares           09/15/2015

to me that apears to be ownership, and all the "little guys" are just along for the ride

The minority stakeholders have clearly defined rights and protections.  While Softbank effectively controls Sprint, they cannot take deliberate actions to destroy or damage the value of the minority's stock.  At some point, they can offer to buy all the minority shares, but in the meantime, there are significant financial and regulatory hoops they must continually jump through to avoid such damage/destruction.

  11. Has anyone ordered a Sprint Wifi Connect router before? I read that they are free (with security deposit) and they only prerequisite is that you must have a device that supports wifi calling.

Yes. It was free. No security deposit. You own it outright in 1 year. Mine was shipped within hours, and worked perfectly out of the box. The only gotcha is that you basically must order it from the right network group -- their phone number is buried in the WiFi Connect thread somewhere, I'm too lazy to search for it. Do not -- I repeat, DO NOT -- I repetitively repeat, ABSOLUTELY! DO! NOT! -- try to order one from Customer Support, as you will get shunted to someone overseas who doesn't have the vaguest clue what you are talking about or how to order it.

    (Edit:  VVV  Thanks, Tim!)

  12. I don't get why there is any hate on Tmobile for this... This is a good move and one that clearly trumps Sprint. You can argue that Sprint has never throttled users and for that I'd say I don't care. Sprint has stated an absurd plan in the past to limit the top 5 or so percent and gave 5 gbps as a number. I don't even use 5 a month typically but I agree that up to 100 gbps should easily be allowed as long as it does not subvert Sprint's terms and service. Oh wait... Tethering isn't allowed on Sprint unless you pay more... this is clearly a win for consumers and net neutrality does not come into the argument.

First, there is no evidence that Sprint has ever throttled the "top 5%".  There was an announcement a year or so ago that Sprint could throttle the largest data users at certain times and on certain sectors if they became congested, but no one has ever reported evidence that Sprint has actually done such throttling.

Secondly, tethering is allowed on many non-unlimited plans at no added charge.  For example, I am on Family Share, and any of my lines may tether as much as it wants up to the maximum shared data amount for the account (currently 40 GB).  We are not heavy data users, but this has been useful to me when I travel on business.  The logic of charging for tethering on unlimited accounts is obvious, however, as unlimited tethering would absolutely invite abuse.

  13. Wow.. WiFi calling is working tonight. Miracle. Has been really bad over the last few weeks. I hope it stabilizes for when I'm in Europe next month.

My daughter just got home from 12 days in the U K, and International WiFi calling worked well wherever she had a good WiFi signal. In fact on some calls, it sounded like she was right next door. If your experience is as good, you will be happy. (International Value Roaming also worked almost perfectly for data and text, but that's another thread.)

  14. Are you still having issues?  WiFi calling has never been as stable for me.  I don't have to toggle with on/off to get it to connect anymore.  It just rolls and connects as I leave, enter different AP or WiFi areas.

Issues?  Sometimes.  For instance, yesterday late afternoon, WiFi calling dropped and I couldn't get it to reconnect.  Last night, I recycled it, and it started to work again, and continued through this morning.  (In fact, I received a call early this morning while I was on domestic WiFi calling and my daughter was on international WiFi calling on her Sprint GS5 in London -- it was choppy at times, but overall quality was quite acceptable.)  Then it dropped again, I recycled, and after a long delay, it reconnected.  I have subsequently been in and out of my house, and WiFi calling has gracefully disconnected and reconnected each time.

So it's not 100% stable, but when it does work, it is very satisfactory.  My only gripe is that it isn't up and running all the time.

  15. Anyone having more disconnections in the last couple of days? Seems to usually reconnect if I tell it to. Or it just something with the Note 4 5.1.1 update

WiFi calling has been awful the last couple of days, random call disconnects, WiFi calling itself going off line, occasional bad connections. Then it will work flawlessly for an hour or two, and the whole cycle starts over. I wish Sprint would stabilize the damn thing!
