Any suggestion of what I should do?  I've had this # since joining Sprint in 2002, and have really appreciated GV carrier-integration.  For example:  Not that minutes seem to be a problem for anyone nowadays; but I've been holding onto my Everything Data 450 (minutes) plan since I got it in 2007, and with GV never seem to use more than 10 minutes/month.

So now it seems like I have to port my Google Voice Sprint number over to Google Voice completely, and get a new Sprint number.  I'll have carry-over functionality like keeping all of my old texts, and being able to have GV ring my desk and work cell phone (and now new Sprint #).

Pro:  I can update to a plan that will allow me the free 10GB/MHS/month and WiFi calling, plus whatever else Sprint is coming out with.

CON:  I'll be calling out with a new number that none of my relatives or friends have; which I know is a small problem, BUT I always want them to call me back on my GV #!

I'd consider porting my number to another carrier, especially say Google Project Fi; however I just got a carrier-locked Moto Z2 Force.

If you have a family plan you can transfer your Google voice number to Google voice. Next you can add a new line to your family plan to replace the existing one

  2. I switched over to an iPhone. Found out that the visual voicemail part of the phone app will not work if you use Google voice. This makes sense. You have to pick, either Google voice or the visual voicemail. I disabled Google voice so I can use the visual voicemail. It seems like a really nice feature. I've had Google voice for many years. Maybe it's time to move on?

Why did you do that Google Voice provides you a transcript of your voice mail messages just like Visual voicemail.

  3. Band 7 is FDD-LTE

    Band 38 TDD-LTE is a subset of Band 41 TDD-LTE that operates between 2570-2620mhz.

A Band 38 TDD-LTE device cannot access Band 41 if B41 carriers are in spectrum outside the range of Band 38 but the vice versa can be done as Band 41 encompasses everything in the 2.5-2.6 ghz range.

Example: most popular Band 41 EARFCN is 40978 which is center frequency 2628.8 mhz with the next most popular ones being in the 2500-2540mhz range which are all outside of Band 38s supported range.

Gotcha band 41 covers all. So my band 41 phone will work in a region that has only band 38.
  4. Maybe SoftBank has to send people to China and crack whips to get equipment moving. I suspect that if the US was band 7/38 that Sprint could get FD-LTE equipment moving faster.

On a side note, the Alcatel-Lucent people need to get off FierceWireless and spend more time accelerating deployment.

i thought Sprint phones worked on band 7 and Band 38

  5. I feel the complete opposite. The G Voice app is awful, slow, buggy, and has not been updated in ages. Hangouts on the other hand gets updated regularly, and is the only chat platform I use other than SMS (and I use it for SMS now too!)

That means all my communication is in a single app. Hangouts now also has the ability to send and receive SMS over data (which GV ofc already had) BUT it can also place and receive calls over data. This would have been super helpful when I was in WV recently skiing and Sprint had literally 0 service within 30 mins of the mountain, not even roaming, but our cabin had WiFi. Everyone with me was using calling over hangouts from my laptop because their verizon phones did not work either, this would have been much more convenient over my phone.

I also use the hangouts chrome extension to talk to people all day in my computer, now I will be able to get SMS and respond right through that extension too, instead of having to go to the GV website.

But we all have our own opinions :)

have you ever tried the google voice chrome extension?
