  2. this is what i don't like (being pensive)

     

     

    but when i quietly connect the dots, after trying to figure out why the nexus 5 came with bands neutered from the gate (when they've could have been enabled) i read stuff like this from sprint -

     

    dated March 24, 2014 

     

    "...Saw explained that Sprint plans to use carrier aggregation to combine two 2.5 GHz TDD-LTE channels "towards the end of this year," though he said that launch could happen early next year.     as current as the date of March, most *spark enabled handsets* have no less than the snapdragon 800 chipset, correct?

     

    then again, as i watch the market, & consumerism is being played on,

     

    i wonder of whatever spark update will come to THIS nexus 5 line, in fear of it cannabalizing next releases -

    i'm really wondering if in labs behind closed doors, the nexus 5 is seeing spark test speeds well above the quoted 150mb & doing it well, but the update  not being released until watered down..

     

     

    i'm just pensive..

     

    it'll die when i see max speeds of lte 150mb flowing thru this device, til then..

    just set it to 3g in *prefered network type*

     

    no sim card, no evdo nor lte data

     

    but OK for voice..

     

    handset's number & imei already provisioned for service on the network side, letting the call thru?

     

    (fallback / failsafe for a lost sim, etc)

Besides Sprint has already committed the resources to already implement a CSIM authentication system for the iPhone 5S/5C so your plea against this is already OBE.  Now that the CSIM system has been established, why wouldn't they try to migrate all LTE phones going forward to use the new CSIM card system?  It just seems like such a no brainer to do this to keep all CDMA and LTE information on a removable SIM card and be more efficient.

     

     

    last night,

     

    i switched to 3g only,

     

    turned the nexus 5 off

     

    pulled the sim out,

     

    booted up,

     

    got the 3g icon in the notification tray, but the swipe down read *no internet connection*,

     

    made a test call to the work line,

     

    it went through, (twice) & fast,

     

    tried speedtest - error came back that *there was a network problem* from the app,

     

    browser wouldn't load any pages...

     

    i noticed for awhile that no data was travelling through 1x, while on the metro subway underground, some parts where i'd roam on vzw, i now get native sprint 3g, w/o roaming turned on, texts thru hangouts only go thru while 3g showed, when back in the early days before evdo, sms & data went thru 1xrtt..

     

    i type that only to say, that not only does the sprint sim provision lte, but evdo also! (this i didn't know) everyone equates the sim with provisioning lte only on sprint,

     

    but it seems it's all of it's data traffic (both evdo in addition to lte)..

     

     

    but not the 1xrtt voice channel -

     

     

    i could make & receive calls w/o the sim inserted, but not send nor receive data, even though the 3g channel was recoqnized by the handset in the notification tray..

  5. My N5 has suddenly been jumping on 1X 800 quite a bit over the past week or so when I am at home. Since I got it in November, that has never happened, and my area has had solid 1X 800 coverage since well before that. I also have a very strong PCS signal at home. Wondering (hoping) if it is something on the network side similar to how LTE network loads can be balanced across bands.

    i switched it off lte, to 3g, going to take an extended lunch break &  ride around dc to see something..

  6. I am in the Shentel area with a Galaxy S3.   Before the last PRL update, it would stay on 800 voice forever if I somehow got it on 800 voice.

    The 1900 is very very good here, so it was sometimes hard to get it over on 800. But now, with the latest PRL, I find it is almost impossible to force it onto 800.  1900 has a preference in the PRL.  But I have seen some strange things lately.  

    I will be on 1900 almost all the time since it is so good and it is preferred in the PRL.  But occasionally I will find that I am idling on 800 for some unknown reason.   My 1900 is normally better than -95 depending on where I am in my home, sometimes as good as -85.  So it is strange to see the phone idle on 800 voice.  It may idle on 800 for a few hours and then for some reason, I will see it back on 1900 voice.  I can not explain it.  I have about no ability to force it onto 800 with the new PRL, but for some unknown reason, I find the phone on 800 voice at times.

    I have not noticed a transfer between 800 and 1900 while on a call and I have not had a dropped call for months. I think I like how it seems to be working now.   I suspect with my phone hanging on my belt in an outerbox, the level may be dropping below the -95 that I see on signal check while I hold it or have it on my desk.

  8. It's not at all that simple.

     

    Have you read all 264 pages in the thread? Not sure you "have YET to hear of one person who has tried" it.

     

    I have tried every combination of settings to try and get my N5 to work properly on sites that are not eCSFB ready. It does not work. Running the .15 baseband, while allowing for more successful Spark connections causes problems with getting calls and texts.

     

    With all bands enabled, and band priorities in every combination possible, I have yet to make a successful Band 41 (Spark) connection in Kansas City, an official Spark market. It's obvious that an update beyond just enabling the band is required to allow Spark to work properly on the N5.

    the focus was all over the place ABOUT the nexus 5, but my pointed inquiery, about why it shipped neutered comes off as.. trollish, when in reality, it seems  the question is being brushed off, i'm looking at the replies, & i'm like "for real"..

  10. Honestly I wasn't calling you naive, or trying to be a dick. Ting may offer try band devices and say that the n5 supports spark. Sprint lists the n5 as a spark device in store and online too, technically though it doesn't because it needs a software update to enable it to work flawlessly with b41/b26. Ehrpd and evdo are 3g technologies, so don't see how that's relevant to the n5 needing an update? Its handled by the network what band you're going to be on, not if your phone can or can not access them 0.o.

    I didn't understand why you linked that at first, thank you for clarifying. From what our developer members on here have said and what I've found on my own searching it'd be very easy to screw up support for the other carriers by enabling spark. These new single band phones are something manufacturers have had to deal with before and if it was easy to have support for every carrier in a phone then why do aren't there more phones like the nexus lines? If you're looking for more info I'd definitely ask Robert or AJ because they're going to be able to give you a way better answer.

  11. Look at the .15 baseband issues. It makes it where you cant get calls/text in ecsfb issue areas. But go to .17 and its fine. Yes technically you can access b41/b26 without the update but it is sporadic, and may not workin all situations. The spark update will help create a better experience.

     

     

    i have YET to hear of one person who has tried -

     

    as for the no calls coming in, or the phone app freezing on incoming calls while on lte, it's as simple as switching from *home only* to *automatic* to  in *system select* under *mobile network setting*

     

     

    & i've posted this to my solution in multiple places in here

  12. It has nothing to do with CDMA or GSM and everything to do with the LTE radios. Changing something on one can indeed affect another. You're beginning to sound a bit trollish.

  13. To be accurate, there are more than 2 tri-band devices out there that are active. GS4T, GS4 Mini, Galaxy Mega, HTC One max, LG Flex, LG G2, HTC One M8...

     

    Why is the N5 not Spark enabled? When it was released, they did not have everything tuned properly for Spark. No devices were being released with Spark enabled at that point. Even the One max and Galaxy Mega were not Spark enabled until launch day for them, as they received an OTA that day.

     

    The LG G2 got it's Spark update a little later on. I'm sure they've gotten things worked out for the N5, however, because it's a universal (almost) device, Sprint can't push a Sprint only update. Sprint has to wait for Google to push the update. If you want to yell at anyone, yell at Google. But it's a big job to make sure the update doesn't break anything for the other carriers. Not only does it have to play nice with Spark, but it also has to play nice with AT&T and T-Mobile.

  14. Its not going to get buried, its been brought back up a couple times. You're link tells people how to manually enable b41 and b26, no different than all of us on sprint have already done. Their n5's don't officially support spark or work flawlessly with it, no n5 will until Google pushes out 4.4.3(or whatever it is). It doesn't magically change because they're on a different carrier, you'd have to be astoundingly naive to believe that. I'm sure were all equally irritated that its taking so long, but hey if we don't like it we can get different phones. Personally in not giving up my 5-8dbm rf performance lead for a few less weeks of waiting.

    says, that it couldn't be controlled on the network side (which it is anyways) w/o neutering the bands from the device? the snapdrag 800 does evdo rev b whether or not sprint enables it or not, the device has the cabability w/o it being cut off..

    this has been bugging me in the background for the longest, the revamped galaxy s 4 came un-neutered, why couldn't this phone have been shipped the same way?

    that's why i wanted to bring this to the forefront w/o it getting buried..

     

    because it is an issue.. two devices on sprint are current triband enabled

     

    one (the galaxy s4) came shipped enabled

     

    the lg g2, recieved it's s/w update

     

    with work the nexus 5 on ting, gets triband love -

  17. hey my aunt lives around there. Honestly more b25 sites need to come on around there. One warning with the .15 baseband. If the lte site you connect to isn't eCSFB ready your phone won't drop to 1x to take a call. The majority of sites in this area are ready but there are some that haven't had the eCSFB upgrade

     i had that problem when setting it to lte only, & incoming calls would lock the phone app..

     

     i think going to *mobile network* settings then *system select*   & changing from *home only* to **automatic** fixes it.. well on cdma networks it does..
