  1. Anyone able to say whether or not the stock email program shows the correct date and time for when it last checked email with POP3 servers on their phones?

It used to tell me when it last checked by putting the time near the top of the inbox.  Now it says "updated may 19" (when it upgraded) although I still get emails just fine.  It just never updates the date and time at the top.

My phone is 100% stock, not rooted or anything.

  2. I just clicked through to this site from google and it redirected me to some url4short.info l domain address.  I had the same problem with a forum I admin.

If you want to test it for yourself you can open an incognito/private browser, go to google and search for something that will bring up results for this site and then click the link in google. You should be redirected too.

It will only happen once.  Once you visit the site once it will no longer redirect you unless you clear your data or use a private browser window in which case it does it every time.  It will also only do this when accessing the site from specified search engines, not when accessing the site directly with a bookmark or typing the address.

I don't recall exactly what happened on our site but it was something about permissions for some php file or something.  I just admin a forum, don't do the computer stuff.

  3. Just did some reading myself.  Looks like the G3 has that feature but the G2 does not.  I am doing that thing where I pay for my phone over 2 years but can give it back and get a new phone after 1 year, which will be November 1st.  I can hold out for 1 1/2 more months and upgrade to the G3.  I can probably complain and get them to let me make the switch now.  I've called them enough times.

  4. Or, get a device with Wi-Fi calling/texting and you should be fine at home. Then you can ditch the Airave as well.

You do seem quite close though, can you see the site from your house, or is it blocked by anything? 1900Mhz 1x should travel for at least 5 miles, line of sight.

I don't think I can see it.  I live southwest of the 441/250 intersection.  If I look in that direction I think the buildings across my parking lot block line of sight to the tower.  Not sure if I can see the tower from my second floor windows or not.  It's possible that I might see it if there are no leaves on the trees.  I measured in google earth and I am 0.85 miles from the tower.  I've had a weak signal since I moved in last July, before LTE was switched on.  This is nothing new.

Can I call/text over wifi with my LG G2 if i get some kind of app? Never looked into that but if I can use my number it might solve my issue.

If Sprint coverage does not work for you, you should leave. Things are getting progressively better as time goes on and the network is in a usable state now and speeds are somewhat competitive. Coverage is not going to change significantly until 800mhz, which is not going to happen for a while yet in Rochester.

I'd like to encourage you to stick it out because I'd rather see a Sprint subscriber than any of those other three, but there's no point if it doesn't work for you.

I really want to stay.  Outside of my apartment I have zero issues with sprint.  I really like unlimited everything for $60/mo too.  At first I heard "We're working on it", "it's a known issue",  etc... endlessly.  That went on from December until now.  Today whoever I spoke with was actually honest and told me that he was not aware of any plans to roll out an LTE femtocell (although internet articles say it's coming) and that he could not say when 800mhz might be complete since it is not scheduled yet.  All he really said was that there was nothing I could do other than switch the phone to CDMA only mode every time i come home and hope that  800mhz penetrates the building better when it's finally rolled out.  I don't know what I am going to do.  When I was paying $80 I was heading to another carrier on my girlfriend's plan.  Now that the new plan is $60 I might try to get Tasker to change the network mode to CDMA whenever i am connected to my home wi-fi network and back to LTE when I am not connected to it.  Or look into wi-fi calling like mentioned above.

  5. That’s what I thought.  800mhz would probably make my phone work inside my apartment too.  Sounds like I can either keep turning LTE off on my phone so it will connect to my Airave or ditch Sprint.  I like unlimited data but I am not really finding another option.

Still not sure how I can live less than a mile from a tower and not have coverage that works.  How far should a 1900mhz signal work from the tower if there aren't any hills in the way?

  6. I finally caught up with the techs for the Rochester Market, I ask them about when they think Rochester's Full build sites will be done for LTE (before the GMO).  He said mid summer the majority Monroe county should be done, theres been some issues with downtown and the one in Greece.  I will NOT give out the reasons he gave me on here (the public form I dont want to get into too much detail with out breaking rules).   One last thing I asked the head supervisor was Spark, he said thats going to be a slow process but Late Q2014.

That's good news to me as i sit here on 3g in downtown (640 clinton square tower according to signal check).  If I sat on the opposite side of my office I would be on LTE.  Unfortunately I can't exactly move my desk.

  7. There's really not much I can tell you here. It sounds like Sprint might not meet your needs, and if that's the case, no one is preventing you from switching.

That's pretty much where I am right now.  Tired of spending my time trying to get their network to work.  I have been with sprint for 14 years and have generally been happy.

  8. My phone not connecting to the airave is a known issue according to sprint support. It affects my phone and one other model. Probably the nexus although i didnt ask. They are supposedly working on a fix that they will push out eventually. I am not holding my breath for a speedy fix after previous promises. I was hoping my signal would magically improve. Their fix was to change the setting in the phone not to use LTE after i paid for a new phone that uses LTE.

I live between the 441\250 tower and east rochester tower. Closer to the 250/441 one. Both of those broadcast LTE. I live in some kind of sprint coverage black hole. It hasnt really worked here since i moved in last july.

  9. I am still on 3G downtown.  I am connected to a tower at 640 Clinton Square according to Signal Check.

If LTE is broadcasting in an area the signal strength is as good as it will ever get, right?  Or will they adjust some things.

I am on a 4g signal at my house in Penfield that is so weak I can't always make a phone call on it.  I assume I connect to the tower near routes 441 and 250.  I had this problem prior to LTE in my area and got an airave to solve the issue.  Now my G2 connects to LTE instead of my airave so I am back to not being able to use my phone at home unless I go to the 2nd floor near the window and don't move during the call.

I need my phone to work at home, it's my only phone.  If I won't see any improvements to the signal I will have to switch carriers.

  10. Hello everyone, new guy here from the Buffalo area and I was just looking for some feedback.

Every couple of months I spend a few days a week for a few weeks in the Rochester area for work.  I get put up at a motel and the whole 9 yards.  It's been a few months since I was in Rochester and the last time I was, was back in November when I still had Verizon.  Instead of doing my paperwork and such back the the stuffy motel room, I'll usually hit up the Wegman's on 441 & 250 or the Wegman's in Pittsford on Monroe, grab some pizza and wings, do some work, eat, VPN into the office in Buffalo, eat, people watch, do some more work, grab a coffee, finish up and go back to the motel room and crash into bed.  I'd rather not rely on the free wifi at the motel and at Wegmans and I need more upstream bandwidth then what is typically offered.  Right now I still have my Verizon USB air card still active and that works very well for what I need to do.  Prior to that I had a Sprint Air Card and always got awesome wimax service at the Pittsford Wegmans, even though the upload was capped at 1.5Mb, which was a killer.  Now I'm looking to switch the USB modem back to Sprint as well and get one that can do LTE, but I need some info on the LTE speeds, specifically in those two areas.  I usually stay in Henrietta off of 390, but I don't really care about reception there, since all I do is sleep and shower there, if I'm not at a job site, I'm at at either one of those two Wegman's in the cafe.

I see no LTE activity on Sensorly yet for Pittsford, but it looks like LTE is alive and well in Penfield.  Does anyone have any real world experience on what the speeds are like in that area or better yet inside of Wegman's.  Ideally for what I do, minimum 5Mb up and 5Mb down would be great.  I won't be back in Rochester for about another month, either last week of Feb or first week of March, depending on how things work out, so I still have some time, but if the LTE speeds are decent, I have no problem switching.

    Thanks for any input

Look at the maps on Sensorly.  I mapped some of the 441/250 area and added some LTE speed tests.  I normally do about 5mbit down and 5-7mbit up.

I think the tower is right across the street from Wegmans in the park.
