  1. Installation Day 2 continues as workers are hauling hardware up the tower on the property of Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor ( North Side of Plymouth Road between Earhart and Dixboro).  I have a perfect view right outside my office window.  Given that my phone has always been pegged with 3G at this location, I'm inclined to believe that it is a tower that hosts Sprint service and I would like to believe that they are upgrading it to LTE capable hardware.  :)

They have to be FREEZING up there!

Can you get the signal strength in dB, it might give us a little better clue which tower it's coming from..

    1) From the Phone app, dial *3001#12345#* and hit Talk

    2) Once field test opens up, it'll show you the numeric signal strength instead of the bars

Then, if you want to keep it showing signal strength (until the next reboot)

    3) Hold down the power button until it gives you the slide to power off screen

    4) Instead of sliding to power off, just hold down the Home button until it takes you back to your home screen, then it'll keep the numeric signal strength up until next reboot

From the top of the parking garage on Thompson I was pulling 5.25Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up with a signal strength of -114dB (and that was connecting to either the tower across 94 from Briarwood or the one south of 94 on Platt).

I observe the tower located on the campus of Father Gabriel Richard, North of Plymouth Road and East of Dominos Farms. There has been no action. Once that is pushing 4G, North Campus should be good.

  3. In my drive yesterday evening there was no sign of 4G at all. My EVO LTE stayed locked on 3G the entire time :-/

I tried toggling airplane mode near the Sheldon Rd. exit and the Arborland exit but there was no sign of 4G. Strange.

I'm not surprised. Sometimes it requires several airplane mode toggles before it locks on 4G. Not easy to do while driving or moving quickly through a 4G area, like when traveling on an expressway. >_>

  4. You guys should not complain at all some of us still ant even been heard of (Toledo) being only 60-70 miles south of Detroit , also I'm pretty sure that Detroit is being worked on as well. This list pretty much means that they will have launchable amount of service in the next few months. Detroit is going to take some time in order to get to that point then if they didnt have enough towers done to cover Detroit, then people would complain. Sorry if you guys ment it in a non negative way, but it will come soon and it'll be well worth the wait.

I'm not complaining, just amused to see the more remote areas being recognized. I agree with your prediction and reasoning as well.

Sorry about living in Toledo, OH. My condolences.

  5. Perhaps my interest wasn't accurately communicated. I was really just wondering if the antenna tower appears as if it was upgraded for LTE or not. I know some have mentioned there are ways of identifying updated towers. I'll see this every weekday for a long time, just wondering if I should be looking for someone climbing the tower with some hardware in tow?

Sounds like you're on the verge of becoming the Fist of Goodness. Don't fall into a dinner party.

We could use a few Fist of Goodness guys roaming The D. Maybe they could stop all the thieves from stealing Sprint antenna and tower parts.
