  1. At least you were in Sprint-land once you passed Atkins/Marion. Heck, even podunk Damascus, VA has LTE. Gosh, I hate nTelos for not rolling out LTE yet... Why didn't Sprint just build out again?

    Man,,

I went to take my nephew up to Emory & Henry College but I had to suffer through 3 hours of ntelos land. Man I feel bad for you guys.

That opens quite alot of light on this situation from my cursory glace! Looks to be the 2022 agreement text.  There's also a list of all the stations and markets.

  3. Actually I believe you switch back to corporate coverage on I-81 around Atkins, west of Wytheville/I-77 (when you leave nTelosLand for the vestigal "Southern Virginia" market), although I don't think that area is upgraded yet. You should be able to catch LTE again about 30 minutes east of Bristol.

I do know that there first Sprint tower in Atkins just recently lit up 3G. It used to be 1x, albiet fast 1x since I'd wager very few people were in the cell on it, but still 1x. So glad that's 3G now!

  4. A news article from a few weeks ago... but provides some insight...

    http://www.rcrwireless.com/article/20130819/carriers/ntelos-stock-plunges-on-sprint-overbuild-concerns/

FBR Capital noted in a research report that Sprint was currently on track to build out LTE coverage in portions of Ntelos’ markets beginning as early as next year. Ntelos is currently a roaming partner with Sprint, providing CDMA services to Sprint customers that roam into its markets as well as tapping Sprint for nationwide roaming coverage. FBR added that the overbuild could be accomplished in conjunction with regional operator Shenandoah Telecommunications.

Still doesn't seem to have sped anything up.

  5. Here's the info for the tower I got on 33. I also think I was the one who caught that blip in Harrisonburg. I was sitting in Chipotle listening to the apply announcement when I flipped over to LTE for e few seconds. Didn't see it afterwards, though. Also of interest, the changeover from Shentel to nTelos happened around Mt Crawford/Weyers Cave, just north of Blue Ridge Community College and the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.

  6. Supposedly SoftBank was trying to do this since this summer. It was originally planned to be a merge of DT's T-Mobile USA and Sprint, then SoftBank would've had a majority stake in the combined entity, in which DT would have an minority(in which they could sell as wanted).

DT bailed due to Anti-trust concerns.

    Now that is very interesting...

  7. How does nTelos 3G perform?

Robert via Samsung Galaxy S-III 32GB using Forum Runner

Not bad. Better than Sprint in Richmond over the summer if I'd guess... Except when there's a football game of course!

I have a buddy who work in the Ntelos IT department, not wireless operations, but I will see if he can shed any light. I know they did LTE trials with Lucent about a year ago.

Based on this PR, I don't know if the LTE they trialed would be compatible with Sprint. AWS is 1700 and Sprint is on 1900, right?
