  1. While I loved my G2, the defective screen that was prone to develop an unresponsive band would not be covered under warranty because I had a hairline crack in the phone for >9 months prior to the issue arising (again). I did however contact sprint customer care and they processed an early upgrade.

Not going to lie, I was so happy when a deal popped for 1 cent after a 2-year contract upgrade. I'm now less annoyed about the G2 warranty issue. This phone is a substantial upgrade to the G2 in everything thus far other than battery life. Even then, the battery life is pretty close, and for a penny I'm happy!

  2. I bought an LG G2 about 2 months ago.   There is an area on the phone where the touch screen is unresponsive.   Every once in a while the phone gets too hot, will randomly do crazy stuff on the screen (zoom in, scroll, etc) by itself.   Is that normal, or should I file an insurance claim?    I already did a factory reset on the phone and it didn't fix it.  I thought it could be the case,  but taking it off didn't fix it.  The software is up to date and it still is like that.

The area where it's unresponsive on my phone is when you are on the Play Store and going to install an app.   When you try to click 'install' on the app you want to install, you can't press it.   I have to turn the phone sideways to get it install.

Even when I try to click the 'copy' or 'paste' on something highlighted, it's almost impossible to get the phone to do what I want it to.

Had the exact same problem, about a 0.75 inch band across the screen that was unresponsive and then later would have phantom touches that would cause the screen to scroll and be unrepsonive.

Getting my replacement today for it.

  3. The Bluetooth sound is sooo bad at higher volumes...Gah! I'm going to have to flash an AOSP ROM to make it sound right.

    Sent from my LG-LS980

I think anandtech has reviewed the sound quality on the LG g2. AT volumes > 90%, I believe there was significant distortion. I can't remember the article, but the Note 3 was included in testing as well I believe.

  4. So I have a poetic case on my G2 which I like for my purpose but my biggest issue is that the kickstand opens on the wrong side so if I turn on a video in like the WatchESPN app and set my phone up with the kickstand the video is upside down.  Any idea how to make apps the lock video orientation flip to the other side of the screen?

Additionally, I am bored and thinking about giving the Optimus DE rom a try.  Anyone have any thoughts or experiences.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Optimus DE 2.2 has been amazing. Rock solid, more fluid and better battery life. Routine get over 5 to 6 hours of screen on time at 40% brightness.

  5. I dont know it sounded very different when normally it sounds subpar

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. The sound between a G2 and a GS4 was crystal clear, The effect is actually very pronounced, I was shocked.

  6. Any custom rom users?

On the basis of overall UI smoothness and lack of bugs, can anyone compare AOSP roms (Mahdi ROM) compared to LG stock based roms like Optimus De?

  7. I wonder too... I had also signed up for the Phone Freedom back in Feb & was told I should qualify for both $50 GC's.  When I activated, I asked the rep about the Phone Freedom GC.  He said he seemed to have issues due to the upgrade from a different line. & passed me to someone else to check.  I then got disconnected from them & had to call again... Like I said the whole activation was a pain, but I did ask a few times about the GC's.  The last rep said they were going to put in an inquiry.  I will wait a few weeks & see.  Be sure to ask about the GC.  Not sure if you had signed up for the Phone Freedom too.

I received two $50 dollar gift cards already. I swtiched from online order and was able to pick  up from store. I was given one gift card upon pick up from the store (they weren't clear why I got this one) and received another in the email 3-4 days later. However, neither state the gift card was due to Phone Freedom that I signed up for a while back. I may have to ask about the Phone Freedom gift card. Hopefully could snaggle the remaining $50 gift card.

  8. Anyone know the sprint dialer code to get to the menu to turn off High Temperature Property? I'd like to see if it stops the microstutter I experience.

    1. Enter the following based on your device model:

    • 3845#*800# (for At&T model)
    • 3845#*801# (for T-Mobile variants)
    • 3845#*802# (for European variants)
    • 3845#*803# (for AT&T and Canadian variants
  9. I am getting zero 4g LTE activity and only sporadically had it when I turned on the device.

For the people with consistent LTE, are you in an officially launched market?

  10. Talked to Best Buy rep on phone

    1) stated I need phone before tomorrow cause I am leaving internationally, current preorder hasn't even shipped

    2) I offered store pick up, agent said yes

    3) She will call store to confirm when open, 8 are in stock.

    4) Not sure of gift card status, but she said it is likely I will get them
    5) Patiently awaiting 10a CST for call back

Overall: Extremely straightforward and pleasant experience. As always, customer service is YMMV

  11. If anyone is wondering or had signed up for the Chose your Freedom promotion from Best Buy ($50 dollar gift card to upgrade and sign any 2-year contract agreement before 12/31/13), I have confirmed it does stack with the existing $50 gift card they are offering. In the fine print it states it shouldn't stack with any other gift cards but apparently it does.  I'd call and ask to get a note placed on your order!

Essentially, I am paying $7 to upgrade my phone! ($99 contract price, -$50 instant gift card, -$50 from previous offer.) Plan on trading in my Epic 4g touch to sweeten up the deal as well!

    Details for the past promotion:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/regularCat%3Apcmcat274000050002/pcmcat274000050002.c?id=pcmcat274000050002

  12. Indeed. It got sent back. Sure leaves a bad taste in my mouth; as they say, first impressions are everything.

Auto brightness never appeared to respond to ambient light conditions, no matter what I set the actual slider to. And either way, that's bad design; auto-brightness completely precludes the brightness bar on just about any other device I've used, including pure Google ones...

I'd venture to say its great that LG decided to buck the trend and allow you to refine the magnitude of automatic brightness changes dependent on the brightness slider. My girlfriends GS4 in general is overly bright despite auto brightness and could use 50% off each step.

Of course, that's if auto brightness works in the first place! I'll have to verify this feature once I get the phone.

Thanks for the feedback and your experience with the phone. It helps to get an idea of what to look for when the g2 arrives.

  13. when swiping/scrolling, about 10% of the time, instead of scrolling, it would think I was "tapping" up the screen. When this would happen, for about the next 5 minutes (or until a soft reset), it would then do phantom touches all over the screen, thinking I was tapping like mad. It, for example, made the keyboard impossible to use, as each letter would get hit multiple times. I declared mine defective after that happened twice.

Sounds like you had a lemon. A fellow on xda posted a YouTube video showing the touchscreen bugging out. He used the stock note taking app to attempt to draw a straight red line - instead he got a line with sporadic juts out. Others in the thread repeated his test but were able to draw a straight line.

The auto brightness also depends on where you have set your screen brightness. i haven't tried it myself(dont have the phone yet), but perhaps if you had the slider to the minimum with auto brightness on there was no room to adjust.

Just a few thoughts if anyone else is experiencing these problems.

  14. I stumbled on this app in the Google Play Store when I was trying to find something related to the G2.  Basically the Android app is the Sprint LG G2 Training.

When you open up the app and click on the banner to go to the Specifications section, if you scroll down near the bottom to the Specifications list and look at the footnotes it gives us an idea about this triband issue on whether or not Bands 26 and 41 will be available at launch.

Long story short it appears that LTE bands 26 and 41 will be disabled at launch on stock and it appears a future firmware update will enable these two LTE bands.

However we know that if you have the MSL code you can manually enable Bands 26 and 41. What we still don't know is if you have the MSL code and manual enable the Band 26 and 41 LTE bands in the ##DATA# menu whether that will allow you to truly use the LTE 800 and LTE 2600 at launch.  It should be very interesting to see when people can verify this.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.totmarketing.lg.ls980.training&hl=en

Well that is disappointing. Hopefully you will be able to enable it with the MSL otherwise I'm canceling my pre-order.

  15. I tried searching for Minneapolis specific updates about 800 and 2500 bands but no luck.

I know 1900 is being rolled out right now, but is there any 800 or 2500 LTE also being actively rolled out or scheduled within the next year?

I'm interested in the note 3 but may get the g2 due to tri band support. If no other bands are being rolled out in the near future, I may just go with the note 3 and one up next year for tri band support.
