  1. For a "flagship" & "best device" offered, i'd consider it faulty, but I'll just keep those opinions to myself...

How long is this going to go on. The phone functions fine. It may not connect as quick as the others but it will connect. I don't even have to toggle the phone from airplane mode to on in order to get it to connect. It might not be the best in LTE performance but at the end of the day it still functions.

  2.

Well I drove around several places to test out if the EVO LTE connects on its own. Well out of several places it only connected on its own twice. I later went to a best buy in Orland park' date=' il and boy did I get frustrated. I talked to the best buy mobile guy and let him know that the only way it connects is if I force LTE only or toggle airplane mode. His response was that LTE isn't out yet. I explained that LTE is working in various places and that only way it would work is if I toggle airplane mode. It looked like he didn't really give a damn and kindly said call sprint and I agreed just to get out of there. Luckily I have the best buy buy back but don't think its worth upgrading my EVO LTE. If I buy out my contract for around 350, best buy gives me 350 back for my EVO. It'll be like buying the galaxy note 2 n kinda losing 20 after taxes[/quote']

I have done the same driving trips and found that my EVO will connect at times and other times it won't. This has bothered me at times to no end. However I have also noticed that it will only connect to LTE after it is done with an active data session. I am starting to wonder if this plays into the LTE connection issue. My phone seems to have excessive amount of background data sessions going on.

I am not sure if anyone has attempted testing the phones connection times with the background data turned off. It might be a pain to test this way since it is one more thing that has to be toggled on & off, but would test the phones radio picking up the connection and switching without having to wait for a data session to end.

If this by chance plays into the issue I have no idea and don't know why other phones wouldn't have the same issue.

  3. Just checking in. I didn't think it was possible for them to get slower but only 2 sites complete in DFW last week' date=' a sharp drop from our previously lightning-fast 8 sites per week.

I really wish I knew what was up or why Sprint can't seem to sustain 200 sites per week total (170), let alone push toward the 500 or so they would have needed to meet their original deadlines. There can be no question now that Network Vision is rolling out far slower than originally planned and I expect ATT and VZW to be 100% done with nationwide LTE before Sprint gets even half done.[/quote']

I would expect att or Verizon to be done before Sprint, those two are only adding LTE to their networks. Sprint on the other hand is rebuilding their whole network. Also the number each week is accepted towers not completed so many towers could be completed but not accepted yet by Sprint. Hopefully here soon you will start seeing the jump in the number accepted by Sprint.

  4. This type of attitude is why we have the exact problem with the phone today. Blaming the network. I could care less if the market is 100% or not. I didn't go to 100% of the market. I was in several areas that were right next to the tower, I threw out the "gapped" areas. The EVO LTE failed miserably.

So let's fast forward here... let's take the Baton Rouge area, most of the area has some very poor tower spacing, I won't get into why, but it's the way it is and Sprint accepts that. Let's just say for some reason, Sprint did 100% test market and rolled out Baton Rouge 100% blowing and going with NV. How well do you think the EVO LTE would work in this area? PCMag sends over their crew to test and compare the AT&T LTE, VZW LTE, and Sprint LTE networks. They just so happen to get an EVO LTE. The review for Sprint's brand new $$$$ network would go over like a turd in a punch bowl. All because of some software issue that HTC & Sprint were in denial to fix.

I fully understand your fight as you bought the LTE just like I did and it's nature to stand up for someone to stand up for their decisions even if they are wrong. I will man up and admit I am a complete fool for not waiting a month or two for the S3 to come out and make my decision between the two.

The fact that I have the phone has little to do with me commenting on the issue. The fact that because phone xyz connected to the network before the EVO has little to do with the comment. If the phone connects and stays connected is what is important to me. The phone in fact will connect and function on the network so it does in fact do what it supposed to. Not 100% to my liking but very few things in life do.

It might be good to know for others that there could be issues in Baton Rouge because of how the network has poor spacing. You can't guarantee that in an area like Houston will have the same issues you will have once the network is finished, Because at current there is no area that is 100% and not still having towers upgraded. Even Waco still has towers that need to be upgraded to fill in its network.

I don't regret my decision to buy the Evo I still think it is a better phone overall than anything out there. And I am sure that if anyone were ever compare devices by network the top choices would be the GS3 or the iphone regardless of market.

Please don't get me wrong there is an issue and I will agree that it is a huge handicap for the phone. The fact is it will connect in good coverage and in the fringe it will drive you up the wall. It has failed to meet expectations on this matter.

  5. Is the phone a good phone if you can get over the issue with the LTE connection it is a good phone. However if you are looking for a phone that connects to LTE right away you might want to look at one of the other models out there. I am happy with the rest of the phone. I prefer the image quality both from the camera and the screen over the other phones on Sprint. I haven't had the reload issue since I removed an app that appears to have been incompatible with the phone. The overall performance seems to be on par with other new phones I have messed around with. I also believe that the fit and finish of the phone are superior to most other phones out there. With that stated there are days when the connection issue can start me second guessing all the above items.

I never said the phone didn't have issues and I am not trying to defend a flawed device either. This is the third EVO model I have had and it might be the last. If any other company builds a phone that is as of quality without all the bugs in it I might jump ship. For whatever reason HTC hasn't and might not be able to fix it. I am sure anyone that is really unhappy with it will find a way to swap the phone out. I don't think anyone ever will use this phone as an example of Sprint's LTE network since Sprint itself has for the most part shoved it out the back door. I haven't seen any type of advertisement since shortly after July.

  6.

I was able to use it and an S3 for several days in Houston areas. The difference between the two was insane. Ignorance is releasing a phone in that broken state.

I am not sure how a market that today is only around 25% done gives you enough proof that there is a major issue. I live in Houston and still say there is an issue, but I don't know if in January I will say the same. Will HTC or Sprint fix it I don't know, will the market filling in do it I really have no idea. I will defer to those in Kansas City or other markets that are more developed to supply evidence to prove it one way or the other.

  7. allright just got off the phone with sprint. weather or not any of this is true i have no clue. i was told that they are aware of the connection issues and there will be another update soon to correct these issues. i told the guy if there not fixed soon i will be calling back until it either gets fixed or the phone is replaced with 1 that can actually connect and hold an lte connection like the s3 or the ip5 that are on my account.

Maybe they are aware but chances are they are telling you what they think you want to hear. Over the weekend I opened a ticket with HTC and it reamains open because they state that their isn't an issue that they are aware of. They are telling me it must be a equipment issue either mine or Sprints. I am hopeful that one day this issue is solved but at current I am not sure either side knows where the issue really is or cares enough to solve the problem right away. In the end those of us who bought the phone are left with the problem.

  8. Notice how they don't even mention the EVO anymore for LTE?

Anyone notice they didn't mention any device older than the GS3. They dropped LG & the tri-band modem. It appears they are permoting their new devices with their new cities.

  9. so riddle me this' date=' which tower is confirmed active then? i thought i found the towers that were "hot" , they have lte antennas and sensorly confirms the signal. when i go to a spot where lte was confirmed and do a speed test i'm getting no where near the same results. i've updated my roaming list, rebooted the phone, it's in lte/cdma mode, just can't figure it out.[/quote']

I have noticed that when a tower goes active it can take time before the speeds become constant. In the Houston market I was getting terrible speeds in the Kingwood/Humble area and others were getting great speeds. This was the same in the Woodlands/Spring area. Today my speeds are much more constant. I am not sure why this happens but it should get better with time.

  10. There should be an update coming out soon as HTC just released the source code for the last update and that's the pattern they have been staying with.

Thanks for the heads up. Knowing my luck I will be in Phoenix when the update comes out and will have to wait and see how much of an improvement it is.

  11. Haven't heard of any updates on this issue since the last update that was sent out. Hopeful this is something that can be fixed with an update and that it will be sent out sometime soon. The more I read about other phones the more I realize that the EVO LTE has a greater issue. I original thought it was gaps in the network now I realize the phone plays a much greater part in the problem.

  12. My EVO LTE didn't learn about its environment after four days in Waco. How do you figure it learns?

It appears that once I have gotten a LTE signal in a area that anytime I have returned to that area my phone has switched from 3g to LTE within seconds of getting back in range. it might just seem that it has learned the signal areas or that the OTA has actually fixed some issues. It is just something I have noticed with time, this is also my second EVO LTE since the first one bricked on the last OTA for some reason. However my first EVO also appeared to be doing the same thing prior to turning into a paper weight.

The EVO is far from perfect from what I have read but I am happy for the most part with the phone. I haven't had the chance to see or use any of the other LTE phones, most of my friends are with Verizon or AT&T.

  13. For what it is worth the choice is purely a personal choice. I believe that the iphone has failed to deliver in the this new one and the previous. The iphone 3 was the last huge advancement on the product and what drove androids advance. While people have had issues with the EVO I have found that as the phone learns the area it has gotten better at holding LTE even before the last OTA. It is a computer system that has to learn the environment it is in. It is just like your car learns your driving and when you change your driving the car performs strange for a period of time.

If you are more of a Mac person I would go with the iphone it will be a fine phone and function just fine for you. However the other side is that the EVO or any android phone will give you more choice and options to choose from. I personally went from a windows phone to the OG EVO and am happy with android. I have friends and co-workers that swear by their iphone to each their own.

You have already raised doubt in yourself that the EVO isn't for you give the iphone a test and see if it works for you. For me my life requires more then one button and one flavor so anything apple brings forward has failed to gain my attention. As I mentioned I think apple failed to present anything special I think they took a few side steps or even a step backwards with this offering. With that said I am sure they are presenting a product they like and will meet their core markets needs.

  14. By chance did anyone else have their phone turn into a paper weight today? My phone went to reboot and never made it past the HTC screen. Phone was stock with no modifications. I don't think the update had anything to do with it but just wanted to check.

  15. Today I noticed that speeds picked back up in the Humble/Kingwood area again. I was able to get 12 mbps down & up. This also happened while only getting one or two bars on my phone. It would appear that what ever was causing the decreased speed issues has been taken care of now.

    Screenshot_2012-08-06-07-07-40.png

Also while on the way home tonight I picked up a new LTE signal that I hadn't picked up before. This one was also picked up with a weak signal.

    Screenshot_2012-08-06-18-58-14.png

This connection was around 5 mbps down and up.

  16. I am going to be traveling to the Houston area at the end of the month. Does anyone know what the speeds are like in the Tomball area?

    Thanks in advance!

Tomball has limited coverage right now. I have only made connections south of Tomball as you head back in to Houston. There have also been some issues as of late with the speeds on some of the towers. Wednesday of last week I tried running a speed test while getting an LTE signal and half way through the speed test I lost the signal. I was only getting around 1 mbps down at that point. Your best beat is to keep checking back as you get closer to being in the area.

  17. It appears that many of you that are getting 4g signals are getting good speeds from the sites you have connected to. Below is a speed test that was done today after work @US59 & 1960 in the Humble area. The speeds from this area had been good at one time but have dropped off to this as of late. Has anyone else noticed this or know what might have caused this?

This one is a speed test from a few days after the launch of the network on the same tower
