  1. Sure enough, like I said, I went out to Hartford and SE 14th (I'm assuming the tower I saw just East of the intersection was the Sprint tower).

I was impressed with the speeds while downloading games (just for fun, I uninstalled them afterwards) from the Google Play Store.  2MB a second down and a 50MB file was finished in just under 60 seconds!  SOOOOO Excited!  NOW they just need to get Jordan Creek area, Downtown and the Woodland Heights neighborhood live!

    Here are some pictures...enjoy!

  2. Yeah I just got back from the fair, and I'm just happy they had the Sprint booth there!  I don't think it was there in my 2010 visit.  The rep there told me by the end of the year, but he says that the work they're doing at MLK and Hickman/2nd and Euclid is just outage work (yeah, right...).  They seemed to be busy enough, fortunately.  DAMN U.S. CELLULITE for having so much exposure...no signs of AT&T or T-Mobile anywhere, but did see an iWireless booth just past the Gate 10 entrance.

  3. FROM MINNESOTA

Sprint 4g in Owatonna, Mn. Put this as you background so you can pretend you have 4g.

This is incredibly funny, as I was in Owatonna just a few hours before you were!  I was at Starbucks there and I was pulling about 15 megs a second....*drool*.  There's 4G in parts of the suburbs, and when I go outside my hotel, I have full 4G bars, but in my hotel room, I have 3G but it has 2MB dl speeds, so i'm not complaining too much.  Was getting HORRIBLE 3G when I was in Austin.  I think the whole I-90 corridor sucks, I bet.

  4. Very nice reporting!  This is the kind of stuff I like to hear about the fair rather than the agricultural topics and butter cows...yes, yes, I know that is what makes the fair "the fair", but even though I value farmers' work and don't take it for granted, the topic bores me to tears, just like to farmers, mobile phone talk and retail bore THEM to tears, so it's a win-win.

THAT said, by reading this, I think I'll drive along University and 31st tomorrow night after work to check out to see if 4G LTE is up and running (I have a sad life, don't I, lol?)

On a side note, I wish T-Mobile would invest more in Des Moines.  I am happy a few more T-Mobilie stores opened up over the past few years, but they need to update their towers on the Highway 5 bypass on the South Side of town, as well as in Altoona.  Sure, texting and talking are fine, but data is slooooooooow (I fooled around with iWireless a bit, and get GPRS on Hwy 5!!!!)  HSPA+ cuts out just before Altoona on Hubbell, and I get EDGE throughout town (Altoona), but HSPA+ everywhere else within Des Moines.  As soon as I leave Des Moines and Ames, though....EDGE network all around.  Even iWireless doesn't invest in 3G immediately outside Des Moines/Ames (Boone, Perry, Nevada, Marshalltown) at this time, nor does T-Mobile when it goes through Story City, Newton and Osceola.

  5. Just to let you all know that I'm getting 1xRTT service in my house and around town on my phone, my partner's EVO and my iPad with 4G LTE, so they are working on the towers around me! LTE before we know it! But just for fun I switched to my EVO 3D and the WiMAX tower by 8th St / 73rd St in Windsor Heights still works great...7.5mbps down and 1.5mbps up. Cross fingers for LTE by the end of the week!

  6.  Yeah I know lol...most of the time, whenever I encounter anyone from Nebraska, all they ever have is Verizon Wireless (a.k.a. the Devil)...so odd that there isn't a T-Mobile market in Omaha/Lincoln, also.

BTW, any action on the Nextel towers out there in Eastern Nebraska?  Not just Omaha/Lincoln, but Grand Island, Norfolk, Columbus, etc....the cities remaining with the additional infamous iPCS 1xRTT towers???

  7. I was at the Farmer's Market over the weekend, and with my iPhone 4S I was pulling 1.3mb down!!!  Impressive speeds lately!  I live in the Woodland Heights neighborhood, and get one to three sprint bars in my house (NEVER goes into roaming, fortunately).  I am just running a SpeedTest now and I'm getting 1.2mb down and 500k up...not too shabby for 3G.  I'm thinking since they're working on the towers this week, I think I'll switch back to my EVO LTE to watch it like a hawk for LTE...I'll scream it from the rooftops (not literally, but on social media!)  Am also waiting for the 4.2/Sense 5 update on the EVO LTE....

That said, I've always been a mobile phone fanatic, and I should get educated on identifying towers...anyone want to get together and grab Starbucks or something sometime?  Kind of blindly asking, I know, but nobody besides you guys and girls are interested in mobile phones this much!

    Thanks!
