  1. I have had great LTE experiences in Des Moines for the most part.  I can get LTE for the most part (except in Dillard's, where I'm glad they have Wi-Fi because service in there is unbearable for calling, even!)  at Jordan Creek, and I know the airport has height restrictions on their towers, so I get so-so data speeds at work (they are better than they have been!).  I know Sprint has bandwith limits set for Des Moines, because I can pull MAYBE 10MB down at the most during the day, and when I'm up in Boone or Ames, I flirt with 30MB down.  But really, I don't need more than 10MB down, so I'm okay with that.

Overall, I'm happy I'm with Sprint still, and I use the iPhone 5S (i sold the HTC M7, as I know it wasn't the greatest LTE phone...), and are patiently waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note IV to come out...but then again, both Apple and Samsung are featuring their respective press releases on the phones next month, so I'll see what happens!

  2. I happen to be coming home and I noticed that I'm getting LTE inside my house!  Thought I'd never see the day.  I wasn't getting the highest of speeds, and I know they probably have more work to do, but at least they're turning on the towers in my neck of the woods!

I know I'm not a sponsor, but I would like to say this tower is near 28th and Ingersoll, and I kept an eye on the phone until I was outside my house, and then it shifted back to 3G, but it keeps bouncing in between the LTE tower and the 3G ones...kind of nice, I think.  Here's some pictures!

  3. Not that it has to do with the Des Moines area, but I was in Clear Lake on my way to Minneapolis yesterday and I had full 4G at the US 18/IA 122 exit where the Pilot/Subway/Denny's is at.  It may only show one bar on my screen but that's probably what it was when I snapped a pic.

I'd rather see the rural areas get 4G before us, as they have had to deal with 1xRTT for years while we had 3G.

  4. I tweeted @Sprintcare earlier this evening as me and my partner were dining at Centro, and it turns out that they were updating the tower that serviced that area, so hopefully soon (how long have we been saying that, lol?)!!!

BTW, I was roaming around SE 14th and Hartford / Maury Streets and the LTE tower seems to not be turned on...I had 3G speeds at 2.5down and 1 up, but no LTE...odd.  I wonder if they were just testing the site for the past few weeks maybe?  It was up full speed last week.

Anyone got anymore exciting news yet?

  5. I've been getting less than mediocre data service here in the Woodland Heights neighborhood (just West of downtown).  The rep at the corporate Sprint store on University says that he has received multiple calls from my area and he told me they were working on the towers (should I believe him)?  They have to be doing something, because I have been experiencing 1xRTT all weekend, and my HTC ONE and iPhone 4S have been switching between 3G and 1x all weekend as well.

    Any input???

  6. hey, just checking to see if you were able to get LTE in fort dodge while you were there?

Hey there!  I ended up not getting to Fort Dodge on Sunday, but got up there yesterday, and lo and behold......................

YES!  There is actual 4G LTE in Fort Dodge!  Also, not all the towers are active, but a few towers have been updated to 3G!    The 4G LTE tower is located on the North side of the US 20/US 169 interchange for Harcourt/Fort Dodge.  The remaining towers HOPEFULLY will get it, but I'm just glad I don't have to deal with 1xRTT anymore.  There is a tower lingering with 1xRTT near 21st Street (maybe they're updating it in the future?), but I got full 3G speeds at my cousin's house and at Target and Kohl's!  Here are the pictures I gathered:

  7. I'm gonna head up to Fort Dodge tomorrow (I actually have a REAL reason other than the 4G LTE tower hehe) and see if the tower really is live...according to sprint.com/lte, there were supposed "data speed upgrades" done in Marshalltown, but I was there last month and it was still 1xRTT...I am waiting for Carroll to get these upgrades...got a buddy there letting me know the second that happens.

By the way, me and my partner (who both have 4G LTE phones) were in Chicago over the weekend, and unfortunately, Sprint has a LOT of work to do to make their 4G LTE infrastructure consistent in downtown.  It's not all Sprint's fault, though, as there are a LOT more people with Sprint service in Chicago, along with Boost, Virgin, Cricket, etc., so congestion (especially on Michigan Ave.) is common, and not just on Sprint.  I hope when the towers go live in DSM, that it will be consistent!

  8. LOL I was on my THIRD EVO 4G LTE and it malfunctioned, meaning it wouldn't receive calls or receive text messages unless I was in a call.  I had to hoot and holler at Sprint agents for two hours on the phone before they bumped my upgrade up.  I can't not have a phone that doesn't receive calls.  I know my partner won't let me take his upgrade (he needs it just as bad as I do).  Oddly enough, the data worked perfectly!

I do wish that Sprint would get an upgrade program like the rest of them.  I know it costs money, but it'd be nice.  Ironically, I would NOT give sprint $175 of free money to upgrade six months early.
