  1. Yes. I feel entitled to use the service I pay for.

My point is that people that abuse the system (not necessarily you), drive changes to what we pay. Look at the recent hikes in TEP. I spend some time on different forums, and I'm aware of the many people that brick their phones without trying to fix them, rushing to get another because they can say it's a hardware/software defect. I know this a problem I am paying more for.

  2. So, if you have Wi-Fi at home and are not offloading, you better have a really good reason why. Otherwise, I would like to punch you. And "LTE is faster than my home broadband connection is not a 'really good reason why.'" You do not need greater than 1-2 Mbps on your smartphone for any legitimate purpose, bar none. If you want Sprint to maintain unlimited data, then offloading is your responsibility.

Those of us that are "responsible" see the reasoning in this, and practice it anyway. Unfortunately, the other 47% will feel entitled, and will lead to eventual tier plan changes for us all.

  3. There is only one accurate way to get your LTE signal strength, and that is from your LTE Engineering screen in your Debug menu. And we will discuss the different ways to get that below.

    ..

I mentioned it in another thread, but you can make a shortcut instead of entering dialer codes to get to this screen.

Download "QuickShortcutMaker" from the Play Store, run it and enter "field" in the search box. It should find Field Trial. Click on it and it will create a shortcut to use instead of the codes.

  4. Ah, ok. Well, It definitely will be nice when it does go live. What I don't like is how Sprint has concentrated most of the data service by the Air Force base. I can get up to 2.8Mbps on 3G at the intersection of Burkburnett Rd and Sheppard Access Rd. Yet in my house, I can barely get a consistent 200kbps or more (over by the Wichita Falls flyover). I have an HTC EVO 4G LTE (running modded stock rom from the xda-developers website)

Different reasons for updating towers at different times. All are frustrated by the network, but members of this site should realize the scope of this work. It is a lot, and it will not happen overnight.

  5. Just to amplify on Robert's response, Netmonitor and several other Android apps, such as CDMA Field Test, are getting the coordinates from the underlying Android API, which is just capturing the coordinates broadcast by Sprint's base station transmitters. Each tower typically has multiple directional sectors (usually three). Each sector has its own base station ID, and under the CDMA standard it squawks coordinates that are programmed in by the carrier.

There seem to be two distinct cases:

    • All sector base stations on a given tower broadcast the same coordinates, which are the actual location of the tower.
    • Each sector base station on a given tower broadcasts different coordinates for just that sector, forming a triangle apparently proportional to the shape of that cell's antenna pattern. Those coordinates may even be miles away from the tower site.

We don't know why this. (There is a fuller thread discussing this phenomenon in the Sponsors' forum, but this is a decent summary.)

Thanks for the info, I will check out the thread. Link to the thread Boomer mentions: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1367-cdma-towers-that-squawk-the-wrong-coordinates/

  6. If the developer could compare the approximate coords of the Netmonitor located tower to the registered tower database, they could determine a likely match in most areas. Probably a lot of work though.

Yes, I have checked the site maps which are great, but I'm looking for something dynamic, easier to use on the phone.

  7. Is there a more accurate app than Netmonitor to locate the exact position of cell towers? Netmonitor can be off be hundreds of feet and makes it difficult to ID the towers used. Antennasearch.com has exact coords of towers, but going back and forth between the two and trying to figure out if the tower shown on Netmonitor is the one showing on Antennasearch is not working too well.

  8. What can be expected for battery drain when LTE becomes available? The WiMax on my OG Evo was really bad.

Has anybody had enough signal yet to determine how it compares to being on 3G only or wireless only?
