  1. I watched the data connection during my drive in to work, which goes through areas of 3G only, and areas of LTE. In the areas that I know to have LTE, I found that the phone automatically acquired and held an LTE connection. Performance was good (10+Mbps up and down).

Areas that don't have LTE still don't. :(

This update brings support for the menu button mapped to the recent apps button. It works great, and gets back some screen real-estate. The update does NOT bring quick settings in the pull-down status bar, nor does it bring additional options for long-press power (still just power off, airplane mode, and restart).

Multitasking seems to be about the same, I still find apps closing when I wouldn't expect them to.

All in all, if you aren't rooted, I recommend this update. So far, nothing but improvements, even if it doesn't have all of the improvements that we had hoped for.

  2. With all the reports of issues with the EVO LTE getting a 4G connection (requiring manual toggles, forcing LTE-only mode, etc), how many of us have contacted Sprint?

I recall Robert saying that he suspected that Sprint has had multiple contacts and that they were aware of the issue, but I wanted to start a tally of various facts:

    • Who actually has contacted them
    • What their response was
    • What steps they had you take to debug the issue
    • Whether or not the Sprint rep seemed to have a clue
    • How many of you returned/swapped phones
    • Any other relevant facts?

My hope is that there is a trend of increasing awareness/acknowledgement that there is a problem, that HTC is working on a fix, and some sort of timeframe as to when we might see that fix in an OTA...

    Thanks,

    - Dave

  3. On my drive home last night, I had the data mode set back to it's standard/default CDMA/LTE setting. It had been on 3G all day long, and suddenly switched over to LTE without any toggles or forcing the connection. Speed test showed >9Mbps up and down. Once I left that tower, it went back to 3G and stayed there for the rest of my drive.

I wish I knew what made it decide to give LTE a try on its own, and why it doesn't do that as I'm driving by other towers...

  4. I want to see if this works on my Galaxy Nexus.

Where do you go in the Elixir 2 app to switch to LTE only mode?

    Thanks.

    Mav.

From the main screen, tap "Telephony", then tap "Turn WiMAX (4G) on".

Scroll down a bit until you see the "Turn off radio" button. Just above that is a list selector that should say "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto". Tap that. In the list that pops up, select "LTE only". The change takes effect immediately.

  5. The Elixir 2 app rocks! Using it, and without my MSL, I was able to switch to LTE only mode. In this mode, I kept a good LTE signal for 90% of my drive in to work. Speed tests were all over the map, but typically above 3mbps up and down. Peak speeds were above 15mbps.

LTE is definitely active in the Buford and Duluth areas, and my phone is definitely capable of using it. It just chooses not to.

    Very frustrating...

Unfortunately, using other modes (like cdma/LTE) don't get me an LTE signal, it stays in 1x mode.
