  1. Just wondering....I recently got myself a Nexus 4 and started a prepaid plan on it. I notice that my T-Mobile device always has better than a -80dBm which is really good on HSDPA+. Meanwhile, Sprint (who is on the same tower, although Sprint is on the higher row) yields me around -85 to -90dBm which is weak for CDMA. The panels appear to be facing the same direction (sprint and T-Mobile). Why would T-Mobile be yielding a much stronger signal strength than Sprint at my home?

Not dissing Sprint, just curious. Is it because T-Mobile is 1700mhz and Sprint is 1900?

Same in my area, except Sprint is -80dBm and better, while T-Mobile is -110. Same tower.

  2. That's the thing, once the notification pops up, when "onscreen", you can grab it and flick up to unlock the phone and launch that app as if you had clicked the notification as normal. It's really quite ingenious. And yes, I was playing with the Sprint version. Unsure if it was any different from other versions.

Oh, don't mind AJ. He can be a bit of a curmudgeon, but that's only because he feels that, for example, the "spectrum crunch" is caused by things like streaming media solely for vapid entertainment purposes... and not for any legitimate-seeming reason. He'd rather only those that need smartphones have them, and... some days, I'm kinda with him on that.

Did the Sprint version have any branding on the back?

  3. I'm thinking of ditching sprint after 10 plus years. Big red here I come. Sure the plans are a little more money but so what. It doesn't break the bank. At least with Verizon you get what you pay for.

    ?

Verizon's LTE speeds are the slowest in the nation.

  4. After testing all 4 carriers in LA, I can easily say that Sprint is #1. I've yet to see "No Service." The Root Metrics maps make my point valid. More green than any other carrier, especially in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. I know this isn't the case with other cities, but Los Angeles is Sprint's territory.

  5. Yep. When I was in holland, mi my sister on TMO had no service on the beach near a $$$ marina.

Are you talking about voice or data penetration? Mind telling us where this happened?

Countless buildings in LA including my house. Outside, full bars -80dBM. Once you step inside, -100dBM and above. Sprint never had this problem, and they share the same tower.

  6. I am one of the 1 million who joined T-Mobile during their last quarter and I'll be coming back to Sprint later this month.

I don't understand why T-Mobile's building penetration is SO bad. T-Mo and Sprint both operate at 1900. Could it be tower spacing?

I mainly wanted to test out T so I got a Nexus 4 and a prepaid SIM. One of the most disappointing aspects of T-Mobile is how they purposely block roaming in large, touristy areas where they don't have service.

  7. How would you guys feel if customization was an AT&T exclusive? I sure hope it's not!

Also, if I wanted a customized phone (not just a black or white model), I'd have to order it directly through Motorola. I'll probably just get a black one, meaning I could order through Sprint.
