  1. I hate cases but if i'm going to have one i'm going to make it useful.  I actually just got the CM4 Q card case for the iPhone 6 plus.  I love having my phone as my wallet because I never forget it and it consolidates everything.  This has by far been one of the best cases for me.  The case has a great feel to it (i'm seriously surprised at how slim it is) and it holds my cards.  If you are looking for a bulky case to save your phone from an apocalypse this isn't it but i've dropped my phone already a few times and its done a great job.  I don't want to sound like a commercial for them but since we are discussing cases just thought i'd put my 2 cents in.  Its a very slim premium feel case thats functional as a wallet.

  2. It's already kicking in.

The recent prl updates already opened up 3g EVDO roaming to compatible CCA partners.

It's just lte that'll take longer and probably won't be fired up til at least q1 as that's the expected time frame for major CCA RRPP compatible devices to come out.

I wish I knew which LTE band each company uses.  I know the iPhone 6/6+ picks up all LTE bands except band 12 so all the CCA partner carriers not using band 12, all iPhone 6 users could use.  It'd be nice to know what carriers use only band 12 and where those carriers coverage is located.

  3. Heading to Utah for a camping road trip over Thanksgiving and was curious about Sprint and roaming coverage in the Southern and Eastern parts of the state. I was actually there towards the end of October to visit Zion and there's LTE in St George and also along Highway 9 in Rockville/Springdale at the entrance to Zion. But how is the coverage in the rest of Southern and Eastern Utah? Areas I'll be visiting include Zion again, Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Arches. Main towns include Kanab and Moab.

I know in early September Sprint announced more roaming agreements to add it its RRPP program, including the following that cover parts of Utah: Strata Networks, All West Wireless, South Central Communications and Breakaway Wireless. Sprint doesn't have very many towers in this region and where there are towers, they're mostly GMOs, so not expecting too much from Sprint. With that said, are these roaming agreements now in place with these carriers so I'll have at least some sort of cell service (at least voice, and hopefully some (slow) 3G)?

unfortunately you will be roaming most of the time.  The RRPP program hasn't kicked in yet and sprints coverage is pretty much all roaming in southern/eastern Utah.  You will get spotty 3G but i doubt you can do much on the web with it.  You will get LTE at the entrance of Zions like you mentioned and around Hurricane.  Moab you should get 3G but i'd be surprised if your speeds were even around 0.4 mbps.  Everywhere else you will be roaming and data will be pretty much useless.  Enjoy your trip though!!

  4. It does have that "4G" 7.2 HSPA though. ;)

EDIT: Actually they didn't start calling it "4G" until the iPhone 4, did they...

EDIT2: Quick Google shows that I was way off, it was the 4S and HSPA 14.4.

Yeah if I remember correctly the first original iPhone was on 2G.  Then the iPhone 3G came out and was obviously using 3G.  Then the 3GS which still was just 3G but had improved internals for the "speed" factor

  5. Something off topic but I had the thought Apple would do this for the next iPhone even before the 6 was released...everyone was disappointed that the new iPhone didn't come with a sapphire screen.  My thought is that the iPhone 6S will be sapphire screen and thats what the "S" will stand for just like the 4S was "Siri" and 5S was "security." Just a fun thought I thought I'd throw out there  :)

  6. Oh, ok.  Well I know around August when I looked at the plans I could change to, the $80 one was still there.

    Thanks.

You are right they did just up the plans within the last week or so.  I was going to switch to the $80 plan (i didn't) and I spent a long time on the phone with customer service and on the internet because my situation right now is a little complicated.  They have upped the price to $85.

  7. Is it posted somewhere what each rural provider is running in terms of LTE bands?  It'd be interesting to see what/where all the current phones (Samsung S5, HTC One, iPhone 6/+, LG G3 ect.) would work on the rural providers networks since none work on band 12 yet I know all carriers don't use just band 12 I just don't know what ones do and what ones don't.  So I'm curious as to what rural providers the phones would work with by looking at what LTE band frequencies they use.

  8. We have had lots of members use both CDMA 800 and Band 26 LTE on the iPhone 5s. In fact, for the first few weeks it seemed only the 5s could connect to B26. Android devices seemed to not be able to initially.

Additionally, the iPhone 5s will not even scan CDMA channels on 800 unless there is absolutely positively no 1900 available.

Well thats a positive sign.  Good to know!!  I guess its just the iPhone 5 now that for some reason isn't picking up CDMA 800.  I know for me personally on the iPhone 5 I will roam and then lose service and still not pick up CDMA 800.

  9. All Spark devices have received their updates except for the N5. We are waiting on Google for that.

Well the iPhone 5 is still waiting to be able to use 800 voice and from what I've read in other forums the 5s hasn't been able to connect to b26 or 800 voice where available.  So those phones are still waiting on those as well.

Edit: I do understand though that they aren't "spark" devices

  10. The next iPhone will support it.  Everything I want in an iPhone should happen with the 6...triband and bigger screen.  If either is missing I will probably get the GS5.  But I'm pretty confident both will happen.  I just hope some of the rumors about it being released in june/july are right.  I'ld love to pick it up before the usual september release.

  11. I've never even heard of that issue.  And I run the stock iOS as well though.  I'm not a huge fan of jailbreaking my iPhone.  It definitely could be your jailbreak.  If you can live without your jailbroken iPhone try 7.1 and see if it fixes your problems.  Also try trevlegit in our forum because he likes to jailbreak his phone as well.  Maybe PM hiim.

  12. On to Band 25, Sprint is only deploying 5x5 carriers of Band 25 using their PCS G Block holdings, which is only big enough for a 5x5 carrier. However, Sprint does have enough spectrum in several markets to add another 5x5 MHz carrier on Band 25, which would definitely help in the markets that are currently being overloaded.

Thanks thats awesome information.  As for Band 25...I know that they do have enough spectrum in several markets to add another 5x5 mhz channel but I was wondering if they were actually doing that and if we knew what markets this was being done in.  Or is that a premier sponsor thing too?  And yeah I'd absolutely love to donate more and do the premier sponsor thing but I'm about to enter grad school and between fees to apply, interview and "save your seat" costs plus what money I'm trying to gather for tuition I'm living off loans right now and can't.  Trust me if I had the money I'd be the first one to donate and become a premier sponsor because I know its more than worth it!

  13. I'm not sure if there is a thread about this but if there is I've looked and its buried somewhere.  So originally I wanted to post a list of markets and the spectrum channels that are being used in each market for each band (i.e. 1900 (b25) 800 (b26) 2500 (b41)) but I can't find the information.  Its easy to find how much spectrum sprint has in each band but not whats being used.  For example on the 1900 frequency in Utah they are using 5x5 mhz.  And I think everywhere b41 is they have like 20-25mhz available.   I know with the shutdown of the iden network they were going to try and free up some spectrum and try and deploy 10x10 mhz channel throughout the U.S for LTE on b25 by end of 2013.  So my question is do we know or is there a way to find out what is being used in various markets?  Will they increase spectrum somehow with a broader use of voice on the 800 frequency? If so when?  is 800 LTE b26 only 5x5 mhz all over the country or do different markets have more spectrum?

  14. So just to add to what Robert said, Layton only has a few towers that have LTE so they are over loaded with anyone and everyone that has an LTE device in that area instead of other towers helping out.  I will relate this to Disneyland or you can think Lagoon since we are in Utah.  If Disneyland (or Lagoon)  only had 3-4 rides up and operational and the others were broke down and still had the same amount of people come there you'd be waiting in line for forever and it wouldn't be that great of an experience.  Once they fix all of the rides things flow a lot smoother and they can handle a lot of people a lot easier.  So basically we only have a few towers or (rides) up and running but once the rest of the towers come online we will be in business.  Also another factor that will help is with triband phones, we will see improved speeds as well.  Thats like adding a new park like California Adventure or a Six Flags to Disneyland to help things move more smoothly.  We will have extra bands to take the load off of 1900 LTE to make a better experience for everyone.

  15. Hey guys,

Well this morning I got the infamous text about the new network being largely completed over the next month in my area... I call BS on this as i'm located on the Clearfield/Layton border and as we all know north of north salt lake there is no new network as of yet... that i know of... infact i just ran a 3g speed test yesterday and its still dial up speeds so....

Does anyone know what factors decide who gets these texts? is it based off of where your number is located or your billing address or what? My number has been ported into sprint and is based out of kaysville, so unless they can magically flip a switch in the next month i'm not buying it!

EDIT: I've read a few posts where others have gotten the text and within 48hrs they have lost service... so maybe something well happen... here's hoping.

I bet you will see improvements by the end of February.  Most of the towers have been upgraded in Davis/Weber counties so they are just waiting for acceptance teams.  There are a few towers in Ogden that are still being worked on to get the hardware up so they can be accepted.  They will probably wait until some of the ogden towers are done before the sites are accepted and you see improvements in voice calls/signal and data.  By the progress of some of the towers in ogden, I think by the end of Feb. you will see improvements in your service.

  16. From what i remember Syringa was doing some of the backhaul at least in Weber County. I would have to go back and look. For example the site at 20th and Harrison in ogden has asphalt patches leading froma Syringa box all the way to the tower even tho its on comcast property. But last time I checked it still had legacy eqip minus a base cab. There may still be some issues with getting ahold of property owners etc. that are holding up hardware upgrades on these sites.

Yeah I put centurylink in my earlier post because thats what everyone keeps saying is in Weber/Davis counties.  I know I saw syringa working by some towers and I thought I even saw comcast doing something by a sprint tower.  I don't think its just centurylink in davis/weber.  Though if all 3 of them are doing backhaul its taking forever and they are dragging their feet.
