  1. This toggling thing is making me nuts, I just want it to detect when I'm near. I was just under my nearest LTE tower, and I had to toggle to get 4G. Robert, I sent pics to pyro with FCC details for this tower to be added to the maps. (Assuming I'm correct of course) From my testing in that area, seems this tower is firing mostly E & SE, cause a couple of blocks away North 4G drops. BTW, ESE is towards the Mall of GA & the Sprint Store. LOL...
  2. My phone is stock. That's why I'm asking because with the exception of July 15 @ Mall of GA, I haven't gotten any 4G, and I travel up and down 85 every day. Last time I did get it at the Mall speed was great, but I had to toggle to get it. Spacesurfer whereabouts on Jimmy Carter? I was on the West side (from 85) of it today, nothin.
  3. Frag...Did you have to toggle your connection mode i.e. CDMA/LTE or did it just connect? I can't for the life of me get any LTE from downtown ATL to Buford, even around Jimmy Carter or Discover Mills, both of which were LTE reported sites. I'm pretty disappointed thus far. (<--- opinion which is subject to change)
  4. Just curious has anybody found any LTE downtown Atlanta from say Midtown (17th St) South to I-20? (I'm not getting any, but may be my building)
  5. Yeah, that's pretty much what I documented last night with the wife's Gnex. Gnex locked first without a toggle, and stayed on 4G longer, therefore the "threshold" suggestion that Robert made seems to be spot on. Question is are they (sprint/htc) aware of it, and how long for an update. Would this be a firmware update, or could a PRL update correct this?
  6. Well last night I thought it was just EVO's. Now theres a report of Gnex doing it. Need some more info on the S3's.
  7. Ok cool. I was having trouble yesterday getting a screen on my EVO as well, kept getting either volume down, or restart menu! Only had about 5 mins to do all this so I went camera instead. LOL **Note** I just read somewhere else, you can take an screen on EVO Power + Home Key. That works better for me.
  8. I had the exact same experience tonite, with my wife's Gnex side by side with my Evo. Gnex connected, no prob. Had to toggle the mode on EVO, even though it was set to CDMA/LTE.
  9. The EVO screen of some tests...notice how bad the 3G is. (Also, the EVO dropped LTE at the light @ gravel springs & mall of GA blvd, whereas the Gnex kept it a bit farther N on gravel springs.) Test Date: Jul 17, 2012 4:17:18 pm Connection Type: Lte Server: Atlanta, GA Download: 18.91 Mbps Upload: 12.97 Mbps Ping: 46 ms Latitude: 34.06659 Longitude: -83.98239
  10. Dpullen...as promised, took the wife & her Gnex to the Mall this afternoon. Before I left I set hers to CDMA/LTE because it wasn't. We get to Gravel Springs & Buford drive redlight, and her Gnex locks in 4G. Nothin on the EVO. We get to the mall and still nothing on the EVO. While she shops, I muck around with the phones in the car. Turns out that on the EVO, even tho it said CDMA/LTE I had to toggle to CDMA only, then back to get it to lock. Once it did I got much improved speeds from yesterday, but the Gnex seemed faster in the 5 or so tests I ran. See screens below....I suspect us EVO users may have a problem with the LTE. (Forgive the photo, I don't know how to take a screen on a Gnex)
  11. Yes, boomerbubba, I heard this yesterday after making my original post. I was able to see towers in the general direction of where Open Signal said they were so I assumed it was correct. Dpullen I was at the steak & shake there in the shopping center @ gravel springs & buford drive. From there to the sprint store, is where my tests were run. Leaving the sprint store toward 85, I still had a 4G symbol, and once going north on 85 is when I lost it. If that helps you at all... : ) You may wanna swing by that Sprint Store to get your phone checked. (That was my plan when I got it! ) I'll swing thru there again this afternoon, and see if I can duplicate my results, and get some better screenshots for ya. Also, my wife has a Gnex, so I'm curious to see how hers works.
  12. Yeah that was me. I picked up 4G(LTE) on my EVOlte around Gravel Springs Rd and all the way east to I 85. According to Open Signal maps, there were 2 towers near Buford Dr side of the Mall of GA where I still had 4G. Incidently, that's the Sprint store I also referred to on Buford Dr. This area was always the best for me for Wimax as well on my old Evo.
  13. So realistically should the ATL speeds be more like the speeds I'm seeing posted from the Houston area? I saw just under 8 Mbps DL today during my LTE flyby...seems like Houston getting in the 20-30's from some of the pics I've seen. If there is a problem as reported on pg 9...then we've got more to look forward to.
  14. Thanks to all of you for your input and info. Its been very helpful. I've been reading this forum for months now, just decided to start posting today. Let's keep it going because this is the only ATL LTE info out there from what I can see. And pyroscott check your inbox.
  15. I carpool from Discover Mills, and when riding to work, I frequently on my old EVO whipped out the speed test on every 4G wimax signal I got. My problem with that then was it was spotty and inconsistent, gaping holes up and down I 85. So bad that I couldn't even watch a youtube video because as soon as I got 4G (wimax) it was gone while in a car. Downtown it wouldn't penetrate my building unless I pressed my phone against the window. So if LTE is gonna be like that...I'm done. Somebody in a previous post told me to lighten up cause we don't pay extra for this. I call a BS on that, the $10 extra is likely for the 4G, I know they said it was for unlimited service, but how can you ever get extraordinary amounts of data, if your download speed is .30 kbps? I'm in for 2 years though...thanks to EVOlte.
  16. If I wanted to inquire about a tower, what identifier would I use?
  17. I used open signal maps today under the Maps setting, and I could visually see the towers I was connected to. 2 of the 6 or so I connected to had LTE. There was one tower, oddly enough closest to my house that I can't find for the life of me. Drove around 2 neighborhoods, wasn't there, or its in somebody's house! LOL ,my daughter said its underground (which explains a lot.) : )
  18. BTW..I forgot to mention, there are 2 towers serving 4G in the Mall of GA (Buford) area.
  19. Mine asks for a password when I input that, and it isn't my lock password. It lets me view mode, and like you say its set to CDMA HDR/LTE Only. What is the pswd?
  20. A good thing I dropped by the Sprint store. A block away from the store...whoosh bang (4G). So I walk into the store running speed test after speed test, and asked if the towers near my address are upgraded, to wit they called and verified, they are not. But I can confirm for all you Atlantans. The Mall of Georgia is bathed in 4G LTE...(it was the same for Wimax). Using Open Signal maps, anything north of that point on 85 is not. I connected to 4-5 towers on the way home, no 4G on those. I averaged under 8Mbps down while I was on, about 4 Mbps up. See screenshot.
  21. This reminds me a lot of my WiMax experience with the first EVO. I work in downtown Atlanta and much like the first EVO, yesterday I didn't get a whiff of LTE. Drove from downtown, north to Buford, not once did 4G popup. I've rebooted, PRL,ed etc...and now I'm gettin pissed. How do they actually charge us extra for this? I'll be dropping by my store today.
