  1. According to the ALCALU tech, CR04AW334 which is on Avondale Drive, North of Downtown Columbia will have LTE turned up within the next 3 hours!! I also noticed New RRU's mounted to the site at the intersection of forest and Beltline.  Although the old cabinet and antennas are still active.  Also, A crew is currently upgrading the site Downtown Columbia on the VA building on Assembly street. Cant wait for all this LTE!  I have no clue why my text looks like this.

  2. The tower at 378 and I-26 in West Columbia is fully upgraded and connected to fiber for LTE.

There's a tiger team there today fixing a port issue on one of the 1900 radios.

Tech said everything on the tower end indicates it's ready to start broadcasting LTE.

So, apparently Sprint is waiting the throw the switch on this tower for some reason....

Any Idea when they are going to Upgrade/Replace the old cabinet at Forest dr. and Beltline and on top of the V.A building down town on Assembly?

  3. LTE will not be turned up until appropriate backhaul is in place (not T1 lines).  It is true most backhaul is not ready and that is probably a big reason for the large amount of 3G only sites completed, the equipment may be ready but the 4G will not be activated until backhaul is ready.  Signal strength does not correlate to backhaul, it is true that you may receive LTE from a futher tower than 1x which would explain a huge difference (>15dbm).  I checked several sites that are 4G live and they are either ATT or TWC provided.

I have been under a tower that is 4G live, and its still 15db lower than 1X/DO. For instance, The Gaston Cell site is almost an island, and LTE coverage is way smaller than its legacy footprint. This means spotty LTE even at launch except in the core where cells are closer in. As far as the Backhaul, Obviously our techs here in Columbia don't know their equipment and whether fiber or T1's are hooked up to them.

  4. LTE will not be fired up on anything other than Fiber / Microwave / AAV connections that meet network vision standards. If Fiber or advanced backhaul is not available then the crews will hook up the legacy T1 backhaul and utilize that for 1x and 3G.

This site does not have LTE active currently. Actually its been down since Friday due to T1 level errors. Why would he lie to me? He said that hardly any of the active LTE in columbia is using Fiber as there is an issue. Dukenet just sold out to TWT, so contracts have to be re negotiated. He said most of the LTE sites are up on multiple T1's. I was at the site with him in his Ericsson truck. I used to work for Ericsson maintaining the sprint and Nextel networks here in SC since 2000.  I am sure he knows and i know what we are talking about folks.

  5. Correct.. Many sites in the core of columbia are NOT on the map,  And some out in the burbs... Look at the map of columbia.. zoom in.. the town is bare.. Forest and beltline, assembly on the va building... The one by me on avondale....Graystone... Bush river...  Claire towers.. Five points... By the stadium.... Vista.... Risley rd... Allen University.. 126 and huger.....Weco by S Brown Street...Timberlake.. I could go on.....

  6. Are you really complaining about the map being only 3 days "out of date"?  Really?  If you haven't read it yet, Robert is just a touch busy -- but even if he wasn't -- 3 days?  I would LOVE to call Sprint and ask them to deactivate your LTE so that it is "accurate" on the map for you.

If I mis-read your post please disregard.  Long day, including BS customer complaints.

I dont know who Robert is. Sorry. Last few weeks the updates were very good.  Still, no one can answer why so many sites are missing from the Columbia Market.... Not trying to piss anyone off, just asking.

  7. I'm assuming this is the one over by the Chili's?

The one by Chilis on Harbison is NOT doing 4G yet.  Kinley rd is by the new hospital. It connects Lake Murray Blvd with Broad River. I use signal Check Pro and you can tell by the RSSi from the LTE.  Its usually about 15db less than the 1X and EHRPD if they are coming from the same antenna.
