It seems like they have options. Being in the South Central PA Shentel market, I'd love to see Shentel wireless business purchased by T-Mobile. I hate having zero resources to get phones repaired, make actual billing inquiries, get the same deals on phones.. as well as being an ignored market as far as upgrades to towers more than 1/4 mile off of I-81/I-83.
Quote1) New T-Mobile could buy Shentel’s wireless business; 2) Shentel could buy T-Mobile’s subs in its footprint at 75% of their value with financing help from New T-Mobile (if needed); or 3) T-Mobile would have to turn off the competing network; with this, Shentel would get rid of a competitor and gain access to T-Mobile’s spectrum. For the right deal, including the purchase of T-Mobile’s subs, we expect management could take leverage up to 4.5x.”

Well, I just got back from Hilton Head/Blufton and unfortunately service in the area is as bad as ever. On 278 I get good service, but not great.. but more than a mile or two off of the main highway and service is downright unreliable. My phone barely works at all on the beach in Hilton Head (near Coligny) and it's just sad.

Did you try making calls without an area code? That for some reason worked for me. I was able to easily duplicate it also, no idea why that would be an issue, but it was.
No, I could try that but most of my wife's calls are outside of our area code since she calls family and out of town friends a lot, so that wouldn't help very much.

Good news, my Nexus 5 is now on LTE in Shentel markets (mostly used in York). Bad news, it doesn't like to make phone calls now. I've switched from Global to LTE and after using that setting for the past day no improvement. I guess I'm glad that my Moto X will be here tomorrow.

I was just in State College this morning, it's a shame they don't even have 4G there yet.
I saw 4G pop up once or twice in my State College travels last weekend but I didn't get much of a chance to see how the N5 was acting there since that was technically Sprint territory (I beileve) rather than Shentel. If I had time to waste I'd drive to Baltimore tonight before swapping my phone but I'm just going to swap the N5 for the Moto X and once I hear that the issue has been resolved I'll grab a new N5 from the Play Store.
Thanks for the info everyone.. and I'll be following this thread again!

Something is an issue, must be software, I haven't had 4G unless forced since I got my Nexus.
Same here.. I haven't held 4G for more than a few seconds on the N5 yet my Moto X held 4G for 90% of my drive to State College.

So, are we able to confirm that Shentel has the eCSFB Gap Issue which is stopping the LG G2 & Nexus 5 from using LTE, or is this an intermittent issue that might only effect certain towers since I haven't been able to use LTE anywhere in Harrisburg/York since getting the Nexus 5.
If Shentel territory is effected by the eCSFB Gap Issue would there be any way to know a timeframe for this to be resolved?

Handset: Nexus 5

You can tweet @sprintcare although I'm not sure it makes a huge difference.

Thanks, I guess I can give it a shot. I wasn't sure if Shentel had their own version of this because I'm sure that me telling Sprint that there are service issues in a Shentel territory won't get me very far.

Does anyone know if there is a way to report coverage issues to Shentel or Sprint? I recently got rid of my Note II due to inability to make/receive phone calls or send text messages anywhere in the Harrisburg/York area but there are still a few areas where I get no service that I feel are well enough populated that they shouldn't be lacking service (near 1700 S Market St, Mechanicsburg, PA for example).

Any news on the Scranton area? I haven't heard anything in months.
Yeah, I'd like information on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area as well... every time I visit I think about switching to Verizon since not only do I not have 4G past Hershey but I also roam half of the time I am up there.

Last night I did some mapping on I-83 S between Harrisburg and York, coming over Reeser's Summit I had LTE and held until I exited in North York, so it appears a tower near Etters is now online.Again, I have to admit some shock that Etters, PA received LTE coverage before downtown York, PA.. especially because according to Sprint LTE is launched in York.
-
So, what are the chances that Shentel got LTE up and running in downtown York for tonight.. for the York City's New Years Revolution presented by Sprint? Shentel dumps a lot of money into advertising in York so it would be great if their phones weren't the only ones that didn't work in York city at midnight tonight.

I don't believe that Altoona is Shentel territory, is it?
If Altoona is getting LTE I'd love to see State College and Wilkes-Barre coming soon as well (I know that these are not Shentel territory).

So, the launch on Black Friday was great.. and I get LTE in a lot of Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg now and bits of York but York City is in need of LTE so very badly. I love going downtown but know every time I do I'm going to effectively be cut off from the internet. I'm hoping after the holidays that we start seeing more towers launch like we did before Black Friday.

Mapped some coverage on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg yesterday (which acted a bit werid, as my signal got stronger I lost coverage possibly due to a tower handoff issue) & on 22 in Harrisburg but lost just before 17th Street. I love seeing new coverage almost every day!

I'm gonna hang on to it and see if it gets better with the Jelly Bean update. Also I'm sure that it won't be much of an issue once we have no more gaps in LTE coverage.
I traded in my EVO 4G LTE for a Note II and the coverage difference is amazing. I seriously think that the new phone doubled my LTE coverage in York..

This is one of the issues of allowing customers to use early completed sites. People get frustrated that coverage isn't where they want it. I'm glad that they are allowing early connections to completed sites.
Shentel is not anywhere near launchable service in Harrisburg. But you get to enjoy where it is complete at least.

Believe me, I understand they are nowhere near done.. Just anxious!

So I know that Shentel isn't officially "rolling out" LTE yet, but being that the first place that we saw Shentel LTE in Pennsylvania was in downtown Harrisburg I'm hoping that they speed up the rollout in Harrisburg. It is crazy the amount of coverage they have launched in Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill and York yet I still can't get LTE in downtown Harrisburg at my work (near the market) or the YMCA.
I'm really hoping this doesn't start to feel like WiMax all over again where I know that there was a rollout, I just don't go anywhere that it actually exists.

Whoever is currently mapping York in Sensorly.. thank you! I'm excited to do some mapping this weekend! I'm tired of relying on my wife's Nexus S 4G for WiMax in York.

I added the chunk on 581/15 going to the Capital City mall Saturday night. Also, had 4G on Front St/Market St. bridge in Harrisburg.
Were you able to hold 4G at the mall or were you simply passing by? The mall would be a great place to have service, especially with the holidays quickly approaching.
-
Getting better every day! I see someone got a connection near the intersection of 81 and 114 while another had a connection at 581/15. Still not seeing any LTE in York yet which is disappointing. Had to use some good old WiMax this weekend in York just to have any internet connection in York city.
-
I did some mapping on 83 this weekend.. I can hold coverage from the 83/581 split until I get to the 83/322 split.. won't hold until Union Deposit exit. Still we are showing a decent amount of LTE coverage on Sensorly for a market with no official launch timeframe.

I've been using an Airave still, as I need it. Apparently on July 31, 2021 they shut them all down. They did not let me know.. and so now I'm trying to figure out how to get coverage at my house again..
