  1. I recently had Sprint move me from Framily to Family (on the advice of Rocket87...thanx Rocket) but nowhere

    do I see a hotspot function in my account; chatted with Sprint about it and she claimed it was an extra cost add-on..

    what am I missing here?  Does my phone need to be re-provisioned for this hotspot functionality to show up?

    Do I have to wait till my current cycle is over?

    TIA

  2. You need to switch before the end of the month to the family unlimited plan. Its also a $100 plus tax. Id only keep framily if you got more lines in the group.

    Finally got it via chat on the sprint website..had to kind of wrangle it out of the

    chat person, however, as they initially wanted $130 for two lines unlimited..

    i think they simply want to rid themselves of the Framily plans that they potentially

    lose money on...and I'm not a big data hog so they gave it to me...nice to know that I now have

    unlimited data should I ever need it..

  3. I'd get here the Kyocera Vibe...water proof to 3 ft and drop proof...I dropped this phone from about

    3 1/2 ft at a Starbucks one day to a hard tiled floor..no problema...but it's a small phone..but a good

    one..I have a Note4 now because I wanted the S-Pen but it DEFINITELY will be easier to drop and

    YES I'm more aware of it when I'm handling it BUT people tend to get preoccupied and WHAMO there

    goes $700

  4. Surprised to see a software update this AM on my shiny new Note 4; (Samsung/kies);

    still at Kit Kat 4.4.4 so this must be a tweak of the firmware that I've been reading about;

    (136 MB)Better battery life, wi-fi issues, et al...maybe a positioning of the software base for

    Lollypop due out early next year...anyone else see this?

  5.

    - Another issue I have is voice quality is worse on this device compared to my Note II.  This is especially noticeable on 1x800.  The signal will be all over the place, and I drop calls more often.

    - The battery life is excellent, and a good step above my Note II.

    I've also had the Note 4 for about a month:

    1) Using wi-fi calling I've never experienced voice quality like I get now...never..it is utterly

        superb and I notice this profoundly because of my hearing loss issues..I know, it's not the

        same environment you mention  (we don't have 1x800 hear yet) but still I feel advances

        have been made in audio reproduction and transmission both by Sprint & Samsung

    2) Not having all the bands yet (25 41 26) I can't relate to how well this beast picks & chooses;

        seems like it favors low signal B41 to medium to good signal 25 where I do have both

        competing bands..no band 26 here

    3)For the punch this guy carries around I think the battery life is killer!  I freely admit I'm on wifi a lot

       so I'm not getting the drain you get from using the on-board radios but I do a lot with the graphics

       and camera so this uses a lot of juice as I love the Quad HD screen..I can't bear to turn the

       crisp display down..the camera on this guy is just plain awesome..

    Stay tuned..your mileage may & will vary

  6. Tried the new Google Messenger...could not get it to work when I have wifi on;

    worked fine otherwise; my Note4 is on wifi 95% of the time around here unless i'm on the

    road..I do a lot of wifi calling with the Note4...best ever!.. NEVER heard voice clearer and

    cleaner before now with  the Note 4 & wifi calling

  7. "Wa wa wa wa wa wa anda!  SHhhhh! Don't tell anyone about the key...Wa wa wa    wa nda..."

    Great, Robert glad to see someone out there loves the classics..Planes Trains & Automobiles is another

    of my alltime favs along with Caddy Shack...dating myself here

    Stay warm up there...remember the Sioux managed to survive those winters for eons until someone

    killed off all the Buffalo...( mild political statement here..apologies to those offended)

  8. Uplink CA is new to LTE-A (3GPP Rel 10+). Rel 10 specified 3 new UE categories- 6, 7, and 8. Rel 11 introduced two more- 9 & 10.

    I'm not sure about Cat 8 (not that it really matters, since no mobile device is going to be supporting 8x8 MIMO anytime soon), but Cat 7 & 10 appear to support 2-way uplink CA as a prerequisite to reaching their theoretical upload spec of 102 Mbps.

    After I wrote the post you've quoted, I did some digging, and it appears most if not all devices next year with a SD 808 or 810 should be Cat 7-ready:

    So thanks to a die shrink (28 to 20nm), Qualcomm has been able to move the Gobi 9x35 on-die, unlike the 805 package, where it is a separate part. If nothing else, this guarantees that a SD 808/810 device will support *at least* 2x20 downlink CA rather than being cheap and using an older Cat 4 modem (cough, cough, Galaxy Note 4).

    While this updated Gobi 9x35 still only supports 2x20MHz downlink CA, there is now room for a second transceiver to aggregate one more 20MHz carrier. Since it is said that "the hardware supports Cat 7", and the standalone 9x35 modem (like the one in the Note Edge) does not, I believe it can be reasonably inferred that the additional transceiver- the WTR3905- adds support for another 20 MHz carrier for both the downlink *and* uplink, for a total of 3*20MHz down & 2*20MHz up. The WTR3905, while separate, is being shipped automatically alongside the new SoCs (at no extra cost), so an OEM is very unlikely to omit it, since it wouldn't lower their BOM.

    So then it would come down to network support. Will Sprint enable aggregation in the uplink if devices support it? The new 8T8R radios, being Rel 10/11 certified, *should* support it.

    Rel 12, due out soon, will add even more CA combinations, such as aggregating 2-3 *non-contiguous* uplink carriers (which the 8T8R radios may be able to support with a software update), B25 intra-band CA, and rudimentary FDD-TDD CA (e.g. B25+B41). I imagine those last two items are a long ways off, however, as they would likely require new PCS RRUs, since the current ones only support Rel 8 + some Rel 9 features via software patches.

    Remember the movie " A Fish Called Wanda"..a classic so after reading the above I have to ask

    "what was the middle part"?   Man, this is deep stuff!!!

  9. Purely anecdotal comparisons here: I carry my Zing around with my new N4 and

    comparing both in identical locations I've found that the N4 is 3-5 db down from the

    Zing ( a known RF beast of a performer IMHO); most of my comparisons have been for B25;

    B41 where I've connected the Zing & N4 seem comprable; so for me the new N4 is a

    solid RF performer way better than any other smartphone that I have owned..
