  1. With the new update the evo connects quite well without cycling with in seconds.

Well, I either have a bad device or the improvements are being misstated. I have been 100 yards away from an active LTE tower and still had to do the airplane mode dance. And this is a tower that has been up and running for months.

  2. I live on the Arlington/Alexandria border and I haven't seen any progress on 4G LTE rollout. However, I was visiting my parents this past weekend who live on the Arlington/McLean border and I noticed that I was connected to 4G LTE. You can imagine my surprise. Very nice connection speeds. Now when will if reach me where I live?????????

    :wall:

I see you have the EVO. In my experience, as well as many others, the EVO does not do a good job of acquiring the LTE signal in areas that aren't saturated with LTE. If you haven't tried toggling the phone in and out of airplane mode you may want to try that if you're in an area where you suspect LTE to be present.

  3. I mapped a trip on sensorly this morning on 28 from rt 66 to Waxpool Road and didn't get a point of LTE on my Evo LTE (with jellybean btw).

Is the 4G around the dulles area stable or is my phone just having issues picking it up?

I'm non JB now as well with the EVO and it appears they have not fixed the LTE issues - very, very disappointed in that.

  4. I think it is the tower at Frying Pan and 28 that is active, if you look at the Sensorly map you will notice the Signal is stronger along 28 then it is in around Clock Tower. If it was the Marriott panels active then I would receive it at the house in which I am 2 blocks out of range if the current mapping. I am over here off of Parcher by the elementary school.

I don't know that I agree on that. The distance seems pretty large for one tower. I was able to keep signal to the Giant on Elden. Conversely, I work next the Dulles Hyatt and cannot get any LTE signal here. I am closer to Frying Pan & 28 at work than I am at home or for that matter Worldgate or Clocktower.

  5. I'm confused - so the Herndon area around Clock Tower has LTE up, at least to some degree. I mapped a few areas with Sensorly last night. Based on signal strength it appeared the tower is likely around Frying Pan. Crossing over to the Worldgate side of the Toll road I had signal in and out and then gone. Then suddenly back again at Worldgate (that tower is on the Marriott). I live nearby and have had horrible service there lately so this does make some sense. However, the signal doesn't seem to cover a full 360 yet and not much strength there. Am I picking up signal carrying from, perhaps, Frying Pan, or would the have things turned on and testing without all panels up and operational?

Also, I'm using the EVO LTE and having to force LTE only and constantly toggle airplane mode or radio on/ off to find the signals.

  6. If anyone knows where the clocktower in Herndon is, I was picking up some nice LTE there tonight as well. Ill map it on sensorly when I go to the gym tomorrow!

I can confirm LTE in that area. Only had a brief chance to pick it up but will try more later. Hopefully I got a bit uploaded to Sensorly at the time. I wasn't able to determine tower and had to force LTE on the EVO in order to find it. I'll try to search further tonight.

  7. Has anyone heard anything more definitive on roll outs here? I'm in NOVA (Herndon area) and have the tower near my home completely useless - speed test just keeps saying try again. The tower directly across from my office (visible from my window) is almost equally as worthless. Not ranting but almost 6 months of virtually no service is wearing on me.

I'm in the B'more market frequently and know the wait will be worth it but the lack of service at the moment is more than painful. I keep thinking they will turn the switch soon but I've been holding my breath too long now.

  8. Not sure it this is the correct location but here goes. I was visiting in DC for the weekend and as far at service I had some difficulties in NW DC. I was not able to get any speed test due to my device but will be updating to the iPhone 5 soon. I am writing because I stopped in Laurel Md and spent the night. The hotel supplied wifi but I had difficulties connecting so i went on my phone and had blazing speeds. I was loading pages faster that on my home wifi system. The next morning I looked for a nearby tower but could not see one. Was this speed do to an updated NV tower with updated backhaul I've been reading about or was just near a tower and got lucky?

Laurel, I believe, is in the Baltimore market and the whole area is slowly showing LTE. The DC market is in a lot of flux right now. I am near Dulles and have the most horrible speeds I could imagine. A call to Sprint last week indicates NV should be live in my area by mid October. I say NV rather than LTE because the person I spoke to did not specify. Hopefully the backhaul will be in place soon. I can also say that Bethesda, MD (also DC market) was horrible today. One can only hope that this means a lot of transition is underway and LTE will be here shortly.

  9. If Chicago deployment is any indication, it gets worse and worse and worse, until the day the site is connected to new backhaul...and then...voila! At least DC is an active deployment zone. So you know it is on the way to getting better.

Hopefully not much worse. I was thinking of digging up an old 56.6 us robotics and run contests between that and my phone for the slowest download speeds. Oddly, uploads are still fairly strong and typically outpace download speeds by leaps and bounds.

  10. At least for me, in Northern Virginia, I see no changes in better 3G. In fact, the speeds have been abysmal for the past week. My office is directly across from a tower and I was roaming almost all of Monday. I hope this means they are actively working that tower but I've seen no movement on the roof it is located on.

  11. I took a walk around the Jumpers Hole location and got some pictures today. It appears that not all work is complete at this site (see photos). I will also say that acquiring a 4G signal was spotty at best from the parking lot nearby. I also noticed that speeds were significantly less today than yesterday. I would burst to 15-20 Mbps and then promptly fall to 1-2 Mbps. I did have further success with speeds in the 10-20 Mbps range after a number of attempts. Based on what I could see on the ground it does not appear that all sides are active yet (see photo with bare cables on the ground). Hope this is helpful to those interested.

  12. I just received an update of completed sites from Sprint, and it includes the site off Jumpers Hole. It's on top of a water tower at 39.08386 -76.58459. It says 4G is live there. Sometimes, water tower panels are so far out from the sides that you don't get much of a signal underneath them. If you drive away a few blocks and the signal gets stronger in all directions, then this is the site. That site 723 above is not a Sprint site where it is showing. It probably is connected to the Jumpers Hole site, but NetMonitor is not accurate.

Thanks Robert. I was literally standing under it several hours ago. It was almost dark so I couldn't see much. The earlier speed tests I show above are from a parking lot right next to the location from this afternoon.

You say it is a completed site. Does this mean all work is complete on the site now and it is fully operational? I ask because I'm getting a lot of switching between 3G and 4G from a hair over a half mile from the tower (line of sight). My downloads (LTE) are around 3-5 Mbps and uploads are terrible (typically less than 1 Mbps). Is there still tweaking/ testing/ something or is this the best I can expect?

If it is helpful at all I can take some pictures tomorrow of the tower and below.

  13. Can I get a little help? I've been digging around a bit today trying to locate towers, etc. I assumed that the LTE I was receiving was from a tower marked on Jumpers Hole (Severna Park, MD). I was not getting any 4G signal while standing directly underneath it the evening. However, there was a lot of construction gear there and cables, etc laying around so I'm assuming this is an active build site.

So, where am I getting 4G from? I installed Netmonitor and am showing a tower location that is not outlined on any of the maps here. So, is the app incorrect or have I located a new tower? Also, I'll admit that I can't figure out how to cross-reference the info in the interactive maps here with what I'm seeing in Netmonitor. Screenshots below and any guidance/ info appreciated.

This site is what shows when I do connect to 4G (signal bounces quite a bit at this point between 3G and 4g)

This address is what shows for the tower - no corresponding info in the maps I've seen here though.
