Coverage map was just updated before these sites went On Air. Haven't had a chance to go around and see in person yet.

24 sites just went online yesterday for B26 LTE around Tucson and Sierra Vista.

In addition to the 3-4 sites that have been going up each week for 1x800 all over the place.

So are they active now? Can i scope them out?  I work right by the Orange grove and la cholla one but im still on 1900. Here is the signal check screen. 

GLANCE shows the upgrade date, not necessarily whether it is actively broadcasting yet. That being said, for 2.5GHz upgrades in the area they have been the same date. And the network will move you where it wants to put you. So it may not let you on 800MHz if 1900MHz is fine. There isn't enough room on 800MHz for everyone.

Well there's been 4 (Edit: 5) 1x800 sites put online across Tucson this week so far, 1 in Sierra Vista, and 1 in Green Valley. And that's just the On-air Notifications from GLANCE which seem to be delayed a bit. They do state 4G 800 has been completed as well but without a date for it.

 

TUCSON:

Congress/Stone area

Sunrise/Craycroft area

Greasewood/Anklam area

Park/18th area

EDIT: Found another near Orange Grove/La Cholla that doesn't have any date listed, so no On-Air notification.

 

SIERRA VISTA:

Busby/7th area

 

GREEN VALLEY:

Basically Southern GV area.

Is it possible to post the cross streets of the site?  I have a friend that lives there with poor service and he would appreciates some good news. PM me if we need to keep the info private.

Had to come in for an hour or so. It's roughly in the I-10/Congress area. It's not on a major intersection itself, it's a rooftop site on one of the buildings around there.

 

It also lists LTE 800 as completed as well on that site in addition to 1x800 voice.

Well, if it is not a device reporting error, then it probably means that enough is clear in Mexico to at least run one CDMA 1.25MHz wide channel.

Info came from GLANCE, not my device. So it could be a reporting error, but less likely at least here.

Just got an On Air notification for a 1x800 voice upgrade on a site in downtown Tucson. I don't remember seeing any other 1x800 yet that close to the border.

GLANCE yesterday suddenly updated showing two towers with 2xCA updates completed a few days ago. It also showed those same towers estimated 3 months for B41 though. Both on the outskirts of town, opposite sides.

 

Me being curious, I decided to go take a look at midnight last night/this morning. I figured if they were up and broadcasting that should be a good low usage time for some speed tests.

 

SignalCheck Pro was inconclusive, just said LTE with no Band shown on both my G5 and Pixel. GCI: 6E04E12.

 

SignalSpy on my Project Fi phone (don't have it loaded on the G5) showed "Band 41? (2500MHz)". GCI: 6E04E12 (same as above).

 

DEBUG screen showed a Band 25 connection on both devices, UL and DL Channel 8296. 

 

Second site showed identical info everywhere except GCI: 6E05613

 

I ran a speed test just to be sure, definitely was a Band 25 connection - 25.14 down 13.64 up 46ms.

 

I took screenshots just in case, but I included the info above.

You say international changes only. Is there just CDMA international roaming? Or does it also affect GSM international roaming?

It appears it was CDMA international roaming specifically, removal of all remaining international CDMA roaming with the exception of Canada.

BTW, got it updated. The entire PRL system is much simpler now than it used to be.

Well, now that I'm back at Sprint again, I have access to the matrix I had before. It's a different and less user-friendly thing now unfortunately. I'll try and rework the first post with a new system and keep it updated going forwards again.

Just like any other device. It will not intelligently swap between providers but you can manually select if you want tmobile, uscc, or sprint as the primary.

From my understanding, without a Nexus device, no phone can swap between Fi carriers because they can't read past the first carrier on the SIM, which is T-Mobile.

I have the tool at work but I've been working from home for the past week and a half.  I'll run it through on Tuesday if someone can post a reminder...

Consider this your reminder.

The data management clauses specify latency throttling. Not speed throttling. Your ping should be way down, but not your speed. We have many reports of B41 sites being misconfigured to have extremely low speeds. (I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure we determined that it would be latency throttling.)

 

The clauses you're thinking about are the congestion clauses changing your network priority when towers are congested. These congestion clauses are network-wide regardless of your plan or account. Some plans specify a streaming bandwidth limit however that is separate from the congestion clauses, hence why the plan does make a difference in that regard.

I had a similar issue earlier today with WiFi Calling not actually turning on. I just cleared the cache from the WiFi Calling app in settings and it began working properly, didn't even have to set it up again.

I'm very surprised! I've always thought that LG had poor phone support and was slow on software upgrades. Maybe... Maybe.... Things are changing on this front. I will be interested to how fast they upgrade their G2 though as well.

I hear this all the time for every manufacturer. To be honest, after being in the industry and watching since before Android launched on Sprint originally, as long as you're going with a popular or flagship device, you'll have support. It's not the G3 or even the G2 I'd worry about, it's phones like the G3 Vigor, or the Galaxy Mini series of phones. Those non-flagship phones will be left behind first.

 

Three years ago if you'd said LG and flagship Android, you'd likely be laughed at, now the G3 is one of the best Android devices on the market, the success of the Nexus 4 and 5 devices helped propel LG into the forefront as well.

I got the battery and charging cradle today in the mail. Took about 3 weeks. Pretty nice value. Next for LG is consistent updates like htc and Samsung devices.

 

Heh, Samsung and HTC, consistent. That's never been the case. Not even the Nexus devices are consistent with updates all the time.

Just letting you G3 guys know, I'm no longer a part of the party. I ended up going back to iOS for now.

 

I was having too many issues with not getting texts messages from iOS users (almost my whole group of friends and colleagues). I will surely miss my G3! It is a great phone.

 

My pristine G3 is for sale, and that makes me somewhat sad. Great handset!

 

I realize this is from a while back, but for the information just in case.

 

It's because of the way Apple designed iMessage to work. You must turn off iMessage on the iPhone first, that way it sends the message to Apple's servers that your phone no longer has iMessage capability. Otherwise other people's iPhones will simply assume you still do, and never check whether they are actually going through (despite iMessage having this ability). So any friends that have iDevices without iMessage enabled will come through just fine as will all non-iOS devices.

 

You could have simply activated the iPhone again temporarily, turned off iMessage then reactivated the G3 and it would work just fine. It's a common issue that's existed since iOS7 was introduced.

Yeah I realized that after posting.

I'm coming from a Nexus 5 and there's too much bloatware on the G3 in my opinion...

 

Is there anyway to get rid of them?

 

I was able to uninstall pretty much everything from the factory that wasn't a basic app. A few obvious exceptions are the Sprint Zone app since it's used for the initial factory and carrier setup via Chameleon, and for subsequent things like *2 call intercepts for on-device troubleshooting and management, etc.

 

I don't like how Lookout is preinstalled in the system partition so you can't uninstall it (I hate the app, I use Cerberus instead and find it much more capable for my uses), but I understand why it's there instead of a standard app. Box on the other hand sucks, wish I could delete it, but disabling it is enough for me. Then there's always the Lumen toolbar which is horrible but installed on everything now, luckily it's small and easy to disable without side effects.

Picked up a G3 today.  Loving it.  I do miss having a menu key by the Home key but I'll get use to it.

 

If you hold the recent apps button it functions as a menu button, just like how holding teh home button opens up google search/google now.

or you can be running several signal detection apps, restarting the radio frequently, and using navigation - - but then you should have a 2.1 amp or better car charger

The largest pull I've ever been able to get coming from my G2 with that type of usage is 700mah. GPS definitely uses a ton since it's an active connection for GPS, Data, and the screen on. In addition, the heat generated by all of that reduces battery performance artificially "inflating" the battery usage.

 

It's probably possible, but extremely unlikely. It is much more likely that the original poster was hyperbolizing his battery life, or he is leaving out a LOT of relevant information about how he's actually using the phone when he gets this "3 hour battery life". There's also the possibility that they have managed to somehow degrade their battery through poor usage/charging cycles and the battery is beginning to fail prematurely.

 

None of these are normal, caused by a specific software load, or in any way the fault of the device design itself or a specific software update.

Greenville ohio got the zvd update took about five minutes via lte zvd does support ART and it fixes the 4Glte problems i have alot better of a signal just hope the battery last longer i used to only get 3 hours on zvc

 

Your phone would have to be pulling 1,000mah to pull that off. I don't think the hardware in the G2 is even capable of using that amount of power at a time. Even with the screen brightness at maximum, the camera open and actively recording, and the gPU being utilized to accelerate for a game. The only way I could see this happening is running something like a graphically intensive game that uses the camera in an augmented reality situation with a large amount of overlays that integrate with the environment, not even Ingress works like that.
