Sprint Marketing Updates 4G LTE City List where work is under way and adds 36 more communities including Louisiana market start
in The Wall

LTE has a more fragile airlink than 3G EVDO. Sprint 4G LTE on 1900MHz is more fragile at distances than it's 3G is on 1900MHz. Also, Verizon's LTE on 750MHz is more fragile at distances than it's 3G on 850MHz. In the most basic premise, the more data you cram into a slot of spectrum, the less it can handle it. Density of the network is key. However, Sprint LTE is nowhere near fully deployed. In suburban and urban areas with full site density, there is more than sufficient overlapping coverage that there will not be many coverage issues. And where there will be, Sprint is rolling out small cells to fill in the gaps,Robert
I thought during Sprint's first media "event" where they rolled out this 3 stage NV plan the towers had a much larger coverage plume, and was a reason to have fewer sites. Not just for EVDO or LTE but both... Then ClearWire would have its overlay where needed... I understand the original plans have gone to ___ and that may be the reasons. But all that said I hope I'm not waiting for miracle LOL
great stuff as always Robert

Robert, Question for you if a tower is updated and has LTE why does the LTE 4G not cover as much as 3g does?Thank you as always
Maybe I have been waiting too long and getting cold feet.... but I am 'starting' to have less and less 'faith' in NV addressing the shortcomings of my local evdo coverage holes...

The area is an active Network Vision/LTE deployment area. This is probably contributing to the problems. They should be temporary. I would call Sprint and complain. They will be able to give you some info about what is going on specifically in your area and probably compensate you for your trouble on your bill. The silver lining in this is after the problems go away, you will be left with a far superior network than you've had.Robert
same is happening for me in my area 06790/06791/06759
I don't think my area is undergoing NV yet...

It's pretty near the border, though. Sometimes switch boundaries do not follow market boundaries.Robert
and that is in the "north" part of the state (maybe north-central)?
By the time I get out of work tonight it will most likely be dark... BUT Saturday I'll drive over. as this really has me being curious!

On that topic... Robert do you think the Southern market for CT as Sprint calls it, follows what you posted in the fall where Southern CT was geographically the western part of CT incl both north and south?) or only the cities called out?
again awesome forum and great folks!

I have seen great speeds on evdo in my area over the past 24 hours... not sure if its a fluke yet or good things to come. was getting about 100k on a good day, much less on a normal day. now getting about 800k to 2mbps in some areas of town... I'll take that - thank you much :-)

I don't think its the zoning side (I can be wrong)... per the siting councils site in CT most of the sites shown on the map have been approved for LTE upgrades in October of this year...

I'm checking in with a state rep that I went to high school with. He says it's hard in CT because there's heavy defense of the skyline for tourism purposes within the state. Looking for ways maybe citizens can expedite the process.
Maybe I am unaware but I thought NV was replacing panels and updating the communication "shed" to a smaller one if needed… not new towers.

There is about 25 towers in southern Connecticut that have permits and are being worked on or will be worked on soon
in the actual geographic southern part of the state? Or in what Sprint is calling Southern CT which as shown on the map is Northwestern corner near NY down to actual NYC area?
either way - awesome news!

Most likely he was using Sprint. You get 100 kbps if you are lucky. Sure there are a few towers that go faster but they are few and far between. My friends with AT&T are getting 4Mbps on the iphone 4S. Network vision so far has been a huge joke.
I would like 100kb down -- I have been getting about 16kb no joke!!!

Bad Deal for Sprint soldout too cheap!!
It is only a bad deal if Soft Bank regrets doing so in the next 18 months! otherwise a good cash injection...

from CNET... nice quote
Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son isn't impressed with the high-speed wireless networks in the United States.
"Everytime I come to the U.S., I say 'Oh my God, the mobile phone network is so slow,'" Son said during a conference call with analysts today.
Now, Son is in a position to change things to his liking after Softbank and Sprint Nextel agreed on a deal in which Softbank would take a 70 percent stake in the U.S. carrier.

Big question does Soft Bank and "Sprint" think this will pass the FCC? As in will they start spending this new found wealth NOW - or in 6 months?
