  1. Almost every site has NV equipment installed on them, which means they are ready for LTE. All they're waiting on now is for the contract ISP in the are to pull in the appropriate backhaul (fiber, microwave, etc.). Depending on the company, that could take awhile, unfortunately.

With 800 LTE online, Sprint's coverage will become more "verizon-like," expanding their coverage area a little bit, and adding better in-building coverage. With your iPhone 5c, you'll be able to use 800 LTE when it goes online. Your Note won't be able to.

This is all great news. Hoping sooner rather than later! Loving LTE so far though.

  2. And it will continue to get better and better as more is deployed in the Providence market. Not done yet. And when they start Band 26 deployment, then in building coverage will improve drastically for dualband and triband device owners.

Band 41 deployment is already going on around Providence and on these sites, speeds will go way up and support a lot more traffic. B41 requires a Triband device though.

That is great news! I figured they wouldn't just say "ok we're done here" but I'm hoping to have verizon like coverage with time.

  3. Anybody have any experiences in greater Pvd they care to share?

so after a month of having "launched" LTE in the PVD market I'm not as impressed as i would have hoped. there are a lot of gaps left to fill that i hope will be filled in with time. although LTE is more widespread now and seems to be much more reliable than prior to launch, much of the state still doesn't have LTE and the spectrum they are using doesn't seem to do well in buildings. I'm happy LTE is finally here but i was hoping for more of the state to be covered. if you look at the sprint official coverage maps LTE looks to be available in most places but the maps seem to be projecting better coverage than what seems to be possible. now that providence has launched I'm fearful that the rest of the state will either take for ever to be filled in or will never be covered with LTE. only time will tell.

Here where i live in Woonsocket LTE is pretty well covered, although head south into cumberland and by Rte99 and LTE vanishes till you get into north providence. 295 seems to be a game of hop scotch LTE coverage jumping between LTE and 3G every few miles.

I do have to admit when i became a sprint customer in 2011 Sprint 3G service was awful. Streaming pandora or spotify was horrendous, today seems to be a much different story. sprint may not have the quickest 3g speeds but at least it is now usable for the most part when LTE isn't available.

  4. Service has been much more reliable in the PVD area. Switching from 3G faster to LTE. In Woonsocket lte seems to be more widespread and reliable. Although there are times all over the state I will hit gaps in lte. Especially along rte 295. Always cutting in and out.

  5. I get lte some days and 3g some days in Warren RI, it's odd. Either a strong 4g signal or none at all.

Still waiting for Portsmouth 02871 (Aquidneck Island) to continue to light up.

i notice that too, i see it a lot on rt 24/495 also, seems anywhere there is sprint LTE sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

  6. Your market is nowhere close to having all the towers complete. 7 more have had LTE activated just in the last couple of day. Once you receive LTE from a tower, that means work has been completed on that tower and (in general) testing has been completed. If you are seeing weaker signal than you expected, usually that means there is another site closer that has yet to be upgraded. Also note that "launch day" is nothing more than a press release acknowledging that LTE coverage has reached acceptable levels and you're now considered an official LTE market. Coverage does not change from the day before to the day after the "launch." Spark is another matter, that is related to Clear's WiMax network. Clear/Sprint is in the process of overlaying TD-LTE on top of the existing WiMax network. This is the network that has the potential of delivering 50-70Mbps speeds. The network overlay will largely be complete by early Spring. This is unrelated to the Network Vision PCS LTE rollout. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

your knowledge is remarkable. thanks for all the insight, I knew something didn't make sense when someone said what we have now is all were getting. Thanks for showing a light at the end of the tunnel

  7. i would find it hard to believe that whats on now is all were getting, to be honest LTE is spotty at best right now, I'm not sure about iPhones cause i know they connect to LTE much quicker, but my note 2 will drop out of LTE coverage, and will pass through 3 more known sites (295 between exit 3 and 8) cause it took too long for the phone to switch back to LTE.

  8. Rhode Island is a market in and of itself, though when the launch, they may launch individual cities rather than the whole state at once.

Initial completion dates for the most part have been pushed 3-6 months due to delays with equipment and backhaul.

Anything that is live now is completed and the final product - for that individual site. Sprint is releasing each site to the public when it is completed rather than wait for the whole market to be complete, unlike AT&T and Verzion who wait until everything is done to magically activate LTE over the entire area.

The way Sprint is doing it allows you to access LTE sooner, which is good since we all know the shape of  the current EVDO network, but does initially cause isolated islands of LTE. As more sites are online, LTE coverage will grow.

The actual "launch" day is nothing more than a press release. Coverage will not be any different the day after the launch than it was the day before. The only thing that changes is coverage is official represented on coverage maps, and you are able to open tickets on LTE issues.

thanks for the info, thats all great to know. I'm seeing more and more locations getting LTE on sensory by the week.

  9. All markets ... country wide or just Rhode Island?

There is too much work yet to be done for a Providence - or Rhode Island - launch in November, maybe by December... but even that's pushing it.

providence market. i remember reading a year ago that it was to be completed around november, but i want sure if that means all markets and if not what markets does that consist of.

  10. Providence seems to be having LTE also, some days its on, some days its not. been getting it from the george washington bridge on 195W all the way up to mineral spring ave on 146N. most of western woonsocket seems to be pretty well covered to. also alot of Riverside and barrington seem to have stretches of LTE. ive been mapping my trips with sensorly to give us all more an idea of deployment and availability.

  11. i had to do some errands today, I ran a mapped trip on sensory, im heading to cental RI tonight so hopefully i can get more data, in south bellingham ma i got 3G, as soon as i crossed over into RI into woonsocket i had 4G from social st to the cumberland line by RT99. then back up through mendon rd.

  12. this is what im seeing in Woonsocket currently. ill have to explore more tomorrow and see where else has it, seems like parts of barrington are getting it that weren't there a week ago. also seeing blips in lincoln and providence. this is really getting exciting

  13. I moved to Woonsocket in january from north providence, when I moved i looked online to see LTE coverage. nothing close at the time, i work in Wrentham and i get LTE there, but anything west of there was only 3g, looks like franklin / bellingham went live recently. I had LTE there and had seen it off and on for a few months. just looked at the coverage map and LTE seems to be deployed right to the RI mass boarder now. hopefully we can see something soon.
