I was browsing through the Daytona Beach Community Development website and found a new 150' monopole is seeking approval. What are the chances this is a Sprint tower? I have a feeling this is yet another AT&T tower. In 2012 AT&T put up a monopole in Port Orange. In 2013 they put up a monopole in Ormond Beach. So while I'm hoping it's a Sprint tower, I'm thinking it's another AT&T site.

How is New Smyrna Beach overall? I'm going to be heading out that way during the X-Mas holidays for 2 weeks. Some of my family live in between the New Smyrna Speedway, and Lake Ashby (on Lake Ashby side). I know there's 2 LTE live towers that aren't all that far from one another in that area. Last time I was there 2 years ago, 3G was spotty out that way, and it's heavily wooded. According to one family member, she's been getting very good LTE signals on the 415, and pretty good overall service at home, I remember that kind of lacked since I was last there 2 years ago. Looks like I'm going to have to map more inland once I get there after looking at sensorly.

NSB overall is average. Expect LTE just about everywhere beachside, but If you go all the way down beachside (A1A) to Canaveral National Seashore expect 3G speeds only. When on the mainland, LTE is only along the two main roads (SR44 and US1). Venture too far from them and you'll loose LTE.

If you're willing to go just a few miles north, Daytona Beach has excellent LTE everywhere. And I mean everywhere. If you're on ISB (SR92) in front of the speedway you'll get SPARK speeds.

Yeah.... No. I'll pass on that. All that sounds great, but it's not that important to me. Posted my speed test to add to the conversation. 

This is from inside my house. It's like this throughout my neighborhood. If I leave my neighborhood and head toward S.R 44 I see LTE almost immediately. I live on Nature Creek Lane in New Smyrna Beach, FL for anyone who wants to look into my issue. I would love to know just how far my closest tower is.

Sprint has been busy in this area. Users with tri-band devices should notice the difference. I just drove from Gainesville through Deland to Daytona and had LTE most of the trip.

Thanks! That's good news. I live in Port Orange and have an iPhone 6 which is a Tri-Band device. Since I got my iP6 I have noticed that where I previously saw LTE, I now see better/faster LTE coverage, but sadly I still see 3G far too often. Mostly on the west side (west of I-95). If you're on the beach or near the race track it's all LTE all the time.

So what band(s) are in the Daytona area and how would I go about finding out that information? I know that service is at it's best when the track (Daytona International Speedway) is in sight. I'm assuming that's because of Sprint's sponsorship of the NASCAR Cup Series. 

Any word on a B41 coming to the Daytona area anytime soon? I've seen the screenshots and I want in. 

Hello all. While I'm getting great LTE coverage in Port Orange and Daytona; When I'm visiting my mom in New Smyrna Beach my experience is far from great. When I stand outside her house data speeds average 3-6mbps down. When I am in the house, speeds are basically none existent at .02-.09mbps down. This concerns me because my mom is a Sprint customer as well and I would like to know that if she had to rely on the Sprint network that it would be there for her. I was wondering if there's any news on LTE or Spark coming to NSB anytime soon. More specifically the I-95/SR44 area. Also when can the Daytona Beach area expect to see Spark?

Exactly! I have stuck around because I was in a contract, but what I see now is that there really is greener pastures elsewhere. So it appears very much worth it now to just pay the early termination fee and move on. And if down the road Sprint actually becomes truly competitive, then I will gladly come back. Over the years I have been very happy with my Sprint service, but as time has progressed, data speeds have become pivotal to daily life and Sprint has just not moved as quickly as other carriers. Blame it on lack of money, city permits, company mergers, etc. The other companies found a way to get it done why hasn't Sprint? LTE rollout aside, the fact still remains that Sprint's 3G speeds are still appalling. I'm more disappointed in Sprint then I am mad. Their giving me reasons to look elsewhere after so many years together. 

Well my opinion has changed since July 12th when I posted the above quote. So needless to say I'm keeping my now 8 year relationship with Sprint intact. Mostly because my service over the past two weeks has improved drastically. Could my consist slow speeds have been caused by a faulty device? The reason I ask is because about a week in half ago I dropped my phone (iPhone5) to the point where I had to use my AppleCare protection to get a new one. Well since I've had this new iPhone, I'm getting LTE speeds way more often and my 3G speeds are averaging about a 1mbps. So I'm thinking my problem may have been my phone after all. Opinions?

What I don't understand is why do you stick around if all yall do is complain. You should choose the carrier that's right for your area. If your expecting softbank to magically give you lte tomorrow... the deal closed yesterday... wait it out or switch.

I'm sure some of us are stuck in contracts. As for me, I'm a masochist. I enjoy the pain and suffering that Sprint provides me on a daily basis. The "hope" that comes along with it all. Life is all about "hope" anyways.

Well this is the solid truth now. Sprint has the cash, they have the spectrum, and the Nextel/Clearwire drama is over. No more excuses for terrible data speeds, slow LTE roll out, and spotty coverage.

 

Get it done, or lose customers. And that's it. If I don't have EXCELLENT coverage in 2 years when my contract is up, straight to AT&T I go.

Well I can tell you after what I saw yesterday I'm done with Sprint. Yesterday I met a buddy of mine at the Port Orange Pavilion for some burgers & beers at Red Robin. He told me he finally got rid of his iPhone 4 and moved up to an iPhone 5, And on top of that he switched over from AT&T to StraightTalk to lower his costs. I told him that surely ST would have slower data speeds being that it's prepaid. Well long story short, we did a speed test and his (non-contract $45/Mo) iPhone 5 kicked my (2yr contract $97/Mo) iPhone 5's a$$. He got 5 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up. I got 0.17 mbps down and 0.02 mbps up. After experiencing that first hand I'm done with Sprint. I'm shelling out way more money and getting way less service. Now I don't know if my buddy's StraightTalk phone is using AT&T or VZW towers, but I know he bought the iPhone unlocked from Walmart. My buddy said those speeds were average data speeds he's getting everywhere. I told him I only get great service in South Daytona and around the speedway. When I get paid again in 2 weeks, I'm heading to Walmart to buy an unlocked iPhone 5 like my buddy did. 

Does anyone know if there's any action going on in the New Smyrna Beach area? Have a sibling that resides there, and has gone through some rough times off and on with network/data over a long period of time with her Galaxy Epic 4G, and can't wait to upgrade to an S3 July 1. She's also aware of LTE being live in nearby Daytona, Deltona, and Sanford.

Most of Daytona Beach & South Daytona and parts of Ormond and Port Orange have LTE now that are getting anywhere from 4-10mbps down & 1-4mbps up. If I had to guess I would say that the rest of Port Orange & any part of New Smyrna Beach won't see LTE for at least 3-4 months. I think it has more to do with getting fiber to the cell sites then getting the LTE pannels installed.

I gotta say "all you can eat" aka Unlimited Data is what keeps me here. I'm with you. 

People wouldn't be leaving in droves if that was the speed we got consistently.

EXACTLY! If I saw consistent speeds daily then I wouldn't be thinking about leaving all the time. It's 32kbps one day, 1.5mbps the next, and 500kbps the next day. It's all over the map. And now with LTE speeds popping in and out. it's on an even wider scale. Every time I'm on my phone outside of a wifi connection I say a little prayer that the data gods are on my side. This also wouldn't be such an issue if we weren't all handing over at least $100 a month to Sprint

While parts of Daytona Beach are enjoying LTE speeds, Port Orange is still seriously lagging behind with horrendous speeds. It's consistent speeds like this that have me seriously considering a carrier switch when my contract is up in October. 

Should there not be? Sprint lists the location as "Daytona Beach-Deltona-Ormond Beach," so I split it into three pins so you can see all the communities they are listing.

The only change I would make is to label Ormond-Daytona as a pin, Port Orange-New Smyrna as a pin and Deltona-Deland-Orange City as a pin. That really is the way this area simulates itself. Just my opinion. love the map regardless. 

Yesterday since I live in Port Orange and found myself on beachside in Ormond I decided to map A1A from Ormond Beach (Granada Ave) to Ponce Inlet Point Park. For much of my mapping journey I was able to get LTE, but as soon as I went south of Dunlawton Ave & A1A that LTE signal ended. Hopefully my mapping efforts are all ready showing up on Sensorly.

When it comes to the the area from Ormond Beach to Port Orange, where exactly are the Sprint towers located. I've done several tower searches online, but none of the towers are owned by Sprint. There all owned by other companies  So Where exactly are the Sprint towers?

That is probably me. It sounds like the route I took running errands the other day. I live on the beach side and lost the 4g around Main St. However last night 4g popped up at my house (closer to Daytona Beach Shores) for about 5 minutes. I had atrocious battery usage all day, I had to recharge 4 times! So it seems they are doing some fiddling with the towers.

Today I did some mapping. I mapped parts of Daytona Beach, but mostly Port Orange which does have a tiny amount of LTE closer to South Daytona. Tomorrow I'll map A1A from Dunlawton to Ponce Inlet on my way to the beach. Maybe after the beach I'll go up to Grananda on A1A. My goal is to map Port Orange every week until solid LTE shows up on Dunlawton and Williamson aka "My hood". lol.

Ill give you $5 if you ask them to come hurry up with the two towers in port orange that permits are pulled for ..

I'll double that! That's $15 total bucks. Tell ya what.. I'll make it an even $20. Ask them when the two Port Orange towers are gonna get some love.

One thing I am curious about is where the closest tower is to Ponce Inlet?.. Every weekend I take my boat (Mako 284CC) out to disappearing island or a random spot near the inlet. I can't wait until I have LTE out there. Where is the closest tower to disappearing island?

I believe that's showing Wimax coverage, not LTE.

This is what I see what I look up O-town. Oh I'm still getting LTE when driving by the speedway on International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona. This weekend I'm going in a LTE finding adventure to see where else in Daytona I can find it.

I live in the Daytona area and I just wanted to pop in and say that when I was at Best Buy this evening I just happen to look at my phone (iPhone 5) as I was walking in and noticed I was getting LTE. So I'm guessing that Daytona LTE is live. At least in front of the speedway. When I came out of Best Buy (about 20 minute later) I still had LTE, but once I got home (Town Park in Port Orange) I was back to 3G.

The entire market is under deployment. It's not just Ft. Myers/Cape Coral. When permits are in hand and the site is ready to start work, they start. No matter where it is within the SW Florida market. Sponsors will see 3 more sites that were accepted today and yesterday later tonight when I can get in front of a computer.

 

SW Florida is not the last market. It's not even the last market in Florida. It is always darkest before the dawn. But the evidence is all around you that work has started. Why don't you take a look at the Ericsson NV thread that shows you what to look for and start looking for work at Sprint sites? I bet you'll find a few in each county in SW Florida. And additionally more every week.
