What are Protection Sites?

Saw a brief flash of 4G LTE this morning at Bangerter at 2100 S before quickly reverting to 3G despite a strong signal.

Last week when I was there I had to toggle airplane on/off mode to finaly hit it.

I also have an SPH-L900 (Samsung Galaxy Note II) and didn't have to toggle when I picked up LTE on Foothill.

First Tracks, sensorly confirms that 4G was spotted in the wild there.
Yeah, when I checked the map had yet to be updated. Glad that someone managed to map it.

As I was in Jiffy Lube on Foothill in SLC this morning waiting for a tire change 4G suddenly appeared on my phone. I took a quick screen shot but before I could run a speed test or turn on Sensorly it switched back to 3G. They're apparently testing a cell site on Foothill.

I believe its because we dont have any completed sites yet. We currently only have in progress sites.
All of the sites on that deployment list were added to the list before work actually started.

Getting tired waiting for our rollout! I thought Sprint says they expect to be finished by the end of this year!
Network Vision is running between 3-6 months behind in most markets. They have revised their estimate to Mid 2014 completion. However, Utah is not behind schedule. They were always planning to start this market in Spring 2013. And they have indeed started. Probably still a few weeks out until the first site is accepted from the OEM as complete.
Robert, that is indeed good news! Thank you for the update. I'm curious, though, why Utah does not appear in your deployment running list (http://www.s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-Network-Vision/LTE-Deployment-Running-List)?

Speaking of 3g.... Does 3g show for 1x on the note like it did on the Evo LTE so no matter what if it's 3g or 1x it'll always show 3g?
It would seem so.

My note 2 people! Are you guys still enjoying the heck out of your device? I think I'm going to bite on it, but wondered if anyone that still has multiple devices has found themselves still using the s3 or is the note just so amazing that you wouldn't go back to anything else?

I haven't touched my tablet (HP TouchPad running CM9) since I brought the GN2 home.

So can someone with a N2 give me their personal opinion on the lack of SVDO and how it may or may not impact their daily use? While the handset supports SVLTE, LTE isn't here yet (soon'ish) I just can't get over going back in time due to the lack of support. How has it effected you? Have you even noticed?
I'm on day 3 and haven't really noticed. I'm in Salt Lake City, which isn't even published as a third round market yet although two reps have separately told me that techs are installing some LTE equipment already at local tower sites. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. In any event I'm not expecting LTE here until at least next summer.
Like you I'm a power user, as I suspect most S4GRU readers must be, so I was tempted to even possibly jump ship to T-Mo when upgrading from my old Epic 4G. But then I thought about it. Service would cost me about $25 more per month on T-Mobile after considering my Sprint discount, and much of the time I would drift in and out of WiMax coverage anyway with my Epic while driving around town. Often I'm using Wifi anyway, especially while at home or the office.
For something not data intensive like email it makes no difference at all to be back on 3G. Web pages load in roughly the same time because of the Note 2's faster processor and increased RAM. The only time I truly wished for a faster connection so far was when I streamed from my Slingbox.
So far I have no regrets whatsoever.
