  1. I've searched the forums a bit but was not able to find an answer to this..

A little backstory.. I was advised by a sprint rep to leave my S3's preferred network mode on LTE / CDMA so I can get an LTE signal once it's live in our area. Everything was working great until recently, I've been having random issues connecting to data. SMS, and calls were flawless. So I called up sprint and they did their refreshes and whatnot to no avail. Got to tier two and they recommended that I go to Settings > Wireless and networks > Network mode and turn the network mode to CDMA only.

The rep advised me that I'll still get LTE with this setting once it's live in my area. She also advised me that engineers will send out a SMS letting us know when LTE is live. Can anyone confirm these please? I'm stoked to get LTE and I don't want to miss the launch.

Based on the timing of the permits, I'm guessing (total stab in the dark here) the connection problems I've had recently could have something to do with tower upgrades around me, which makes me excited

I can tell you that when the wimax 4g was live in my area, it was at least a month before I got and email telling me so. It may have been far longer, but at least a month. I set my phone to cdma only because of data problems. If you use this forum or know others waiting for let, you'll know when its on

  2. Philadelphia Metro market is 45% with NV upgrades. However, 13% is probably pretty accurate for LTE upgrades. Two different numbers.

Robert, if that is accurate, then I guess spring launch is incorrect. 4g is one thing, but this testing and upgrade stuff is making all data use brutally rough. I thought I was looking at 45% LTE. Thanks for being there for me though. I need someone to get me off this ledge
  3. I saw a post on sprint community by a Sprint rep that said Philly is 13% complete. This site says 45%. Which is right? I'm pretty sure the Sprint guy is wrong, but it concerns me. How come some areas launched below 40%, yet some are in the 50s and haven't launched yet? This is painful, because the 3g is cutting out now, during this work. At times, I have no data. None! My SG3 had to be put on 3g only. It kept flipping 4g to 3g and was even less useable than when steady 3g.

  4. This is just an assumption on my part, but I think it is very reasonable assumption... while SE PA obviously did not sustain the same kind of damage as our neighboring states, it is still very much a possibility that the hurricane affected progress in our market. I believe it very likely did. The extra crews needed for repairs in the damaged areas came from somewhere. If crews were moved to states with hurricane damage for repair work then their scheduled work is going to fall behind.

I can agree with your assumptions, but even Robert said, they started late. They did the same thing with Wimax, so I guess I should have expected it. 10% in 5 months is slow. Robert thinks they will pick up the pace. I hope and believe it. January quickly is turning to June

  5. It's OK to be concerned about the data we provide. Because a lot of the dates have slipped so far. Sprint started Philly 3-4 months late. And their production rate has been slower than most other markets. This is all true. We report what we know.

However, it appears that most of the obstacles in the Philly market have been removed and progress should start gaining momentum.

Love the work you are doing. I know you are only providing info given to you. Keep up the good work. Message to Sprint: Finish the good work quicker

  6. A few things...

    1. The Philly Metro market extends out to Reading and the Lehigh Valley. So there are tons of sites outside the Philly area. So that's 5% of a lot of sites.

    2. Only 70% of the market sites are in the Philly Area. And it doesn't take 100% of them for 100% coverage. More like 50% of them.

    3. Hurricane Sandy caused a lot of issues that are preventing many sites from completing and passing inspection. So there is a huge backlog of sites that will likely come through pretty quickly when these get resolved.

Philly could still launch before the end of Spring, which is the 3rd week of June. Where we say Spring 2013, we don't mean the first day of Spring. We mean some time in Spring, date to be determined.

I understand what you're saying, but 10% is 10%. It's only a 1/4 of the 40% that seems to be needed for launch. June seems a long long shot. As for the hurricane. That may pertain to New Jersey or Delaware, but Pa was fine from the storm. Sprint 3g is not very good. I'm trying to be patient, but Sprint makes it difficult. I do appreciate the info you provide. I need you to know that, but the info comes from a company that has problems. We haven't been waiting for 4g for a couple months, we've been waiting for a couple years. Wimax never worked right in the Philly market. Sorry to be whining

  7. It doesn't mean anything, really. In unlaunched markets they are constantly doing things to optimize signals, work on sites, clusters even the network and software. It just will come and go,.

Delaware is not as far along as the Philly market. A lot more sites have been worked on in the Philly market than Delaware. Delaware has 139 sites total, Philly has 621. So the percentages do not really tell the story. The Philly market is just now becoming ready to bring LTE online in some places. Delaware is not ready, yet.

    Robert

Great info. I was thinking market vs state. That clears up my confusion quite a bit. Thanks. I'm so starved and anxious for 4g.

  8. It is common for signals to come and go in unlaunched markets. We see this happen often. Especially with the very first sites in a market.

    Robert

Does that mean the tower is ready, but in testing mode? What would be a good time frame to be consistently on? You show Phila market as 7% finished. One tower reading only according to sensorly readings, yet Delaware shows 18% completed and not 1 purple spot in the whole state. Can you explain a little why that might be? Thanks
