  1. Anyone have experience with an AT&T version of the 6S on Sprint? Specifically whether or not carrier aggregation still works?

I only have a Sprint version, but an AT&T one should work perfectly fine with CA because it has the same bands, just adding one for B30 on AT&T.

  2. Got it as well on my 6S. No noticeable signal difference, but I do have crappy reception in my house, so I wouldn't see a change anyway. ;)

Thanks. I'm glad it helped! That verse is like my life verse or my motto.

  4. The problem is they have tuned before and then a follow on update completely wipes out what progress was made.

And what part of carrier updates are done by the carrier (Sprint) or the manufacturer (Apple)? Just curious.

As far as I know, they are just Sprint's doing. I do wish that Apple would open up the network customizability/information more and would fix field test, especially for iPhone 6S/+

  5. I've been hit with 3G/1x/No Service in areas with strong LTE. It's annoying.

Exactly my experience in almost every city I go to. Occasionally great connections, but usually it is flipping airplane mode consistently to avoid 3G or a weak B26. These problems aren't new either. Sprint really needs to better optimize/tune the settings for their (probably) most popular line of phones (iPhones).

  6. My iPhone 6 used to do this quite often. My iPhone 6s used to do this months ago, but doesn't anymore. The more recent carrier updates have fixed the issue and LTE changeover is pretty quick now.

It's likely the LTE Scan Timer. Forcing it to airplane mode resets the timer and it immediately looks for LTE.

Does the device pick up LTE if you just let it sit for a few minutes?

No, actually in Iowa City, LTE is hard to pick up, so you almost always sit on 3G and have to toggle airplane mode several times before you can pick up LTE(Provided you are really near the tower).

I do agree that the iPhone 6S' signal-holding is a nice step up from the 5S, but it still needs more work. I do have PRL 54054 (Sprint 24.1)

  7. My iPhone 6 has been getting on 3G real easy and not reconnecting to LTE at all since this latest iOS/carrier update. I hate it, I can literally be across the street from a tower and I won't switch over unless I cycle airplane mode.

I have had the same experience many times in IA with the same issue. It's like the network prefers people sit on 3G and doesn't even realize when people are near towers or when the LTE signal should be strong. I do wonder if part of the issue is Apple. I know Androids have the issues too, but it seems like Apple devices are worst tuned for the network.

  8. See, I think herein lies the problem. Consistency. Sprint does have wonderful spectrum to use and many people have wonderful experiences. However, there are people (Like in this thread) that have abysmal experiences in the same towns. I think if Sprint can make the network a more consistent/even experience, then more people would switch and/or stay.

I know here in east IA, there is no B41 (Because IA is rural, so B41 is owned by a company that uses it for rural internet), and B25/26 is deployed in some major cities like Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Waterloo. However, the towers are frequently overloaded and LTE coverage doesn't go very far from towers (Towers that are already few and far between), so you are stuck on 3G mostly which is molasses slow. Overall a meh experience.

However, I have been to Des Moines, St. Louis, and Nashville recently, and they all are not perfect, but they are more dense, are faster, and very reliable.

I'm not saying it'll be easy, but if they can get consistency like AT&T or Verizon, they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.

  9. i only hit 1 B41 tower on a daily basis, i rarely ever get to where any other B41 towers are, so my experience is very limited. but the 1 tower i do frequent always has random issue of kicking me off B41 down to B25 or B26. its been doing it for months. it also has random performance issues, sometimes i'll only get ~10 meg and other times i'll hit 80 meg. its not a busy area either so i doubt its usage. anyway, sounds like with what you are seeing there are some issues in the area.

Yeah. Clearly there is B41 (Sensorly backs that up), but it needs a lot of tuning so that people stay on it longer and so that it is more consistent. Hopefully NGN fixes it, it's just frustrating in the meantime.

  10. The graph associated with that news article shows how much progress sprint has made in two years:

    125_Nielsen_Press_Release_Graph_6_2_16_h

Sprint was definitely in a rough patch in 2014.

This is a clear improvement, but I am beginning to get a little confused because all the new charts sprint is creating, like the one above, don't have labels and/or markings on the axes. They really need to label.

  11. Wow I just looked there prices are not that bad actually. Only $299 per month for the 10Gbps. But alas the vast majority of the USA is under the wrath of Comcast, TWC, Cox, etc. I still can't believe the experimental caps of 200Gb some ISPs are trying to do on even premium level service. With the 10Gbps service from EPB you could use that up in under a minute!

Pretty crazy, ain't it? I'm sitting here with 40mbps CenturyLink and that's pretty good for my area. Oh, the future...

  12. I've been just lurking for the last several days and it's fascinating to see everyone's thoughts and predictions.

I personally like the 4-carrier system (1 or 2 more wouldn't hurt, but it works fine), because of the competition and constant need for improvement in the bottom carriers (S & T right now). However, I can't help but wonder if S & T merged, if that might not make the market more competitive and crazy because the resulting company would have the brains and rich spectrum portfolio in Sprint, with the aggressive and innovative management @T in Legere and his network rollout team.

Really just something to think about, as I see no reason Sprint HAS to be bought out any time soon. ¡Viva Amarillo!

  13. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breathe* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Trump HATES T-Mobile and John Legere, they went toe to toe on Twitter last year! Absolutely DESPISE each other

    That's why he has them.

    1. They advertise by using a big "T" (Sounds familiar, no?)

    2. He had a fight with Legere (If he fights someone, it isn't always because he hates them, he is just a bully)

    3. T-Mobile looks flashy and fast with all sorts of amenities and features, but isn't actually the best like they claim (Sounds familiar again, no?)

    4. Don't take anything Trump says at face value, because he's likely to flip flop the next sentence (Sounds like another presidential frontrunner, no?)

  14. I'm glad you and quite a few others here liked my post. Trump was the first thing that got in my mind when I saw "yuuge" written, although I wasn't aware of Sanders saying it, but then again I haven't heard many speeches from him, especially in contrast from what I see/hear in the media from Trump.

Now that Trump has pretty much secured the Republican nomination, it''ll be interesting to see if what he suggested Bernie do if indeed Bernie doesn't win, which is to run as an Independent. If so, then Hillary's chances of winning the Presidency will be less although Bernie likely will not have enough support from carryover Democrats to win, unless as I read today from some journalists thinking Hillary getting indicted does happen.

Not meaning to get into politics by saying that, but the reason for it is in thinking about the new administration's stance on wireless mergers. I see it like this. If Bernie wins (if he runs as an Independent or gets the Democratic nomination after Hillary gets indicted - if that happens) then mergers are going to be very unlikely to happen during his presidency. If Hillary wins, that is a scenario that makes the merger likelihood very interesting, could be not likely, could be they happen, I'm not sure. Yet if Trump wins, then we may be seeing some big merger possibilities.

While I believe it is best not to get into political discussions here, as I understand the importance of avoiding potential political arguments, etc., I still think it is important to pay attention to the political ongoings and to mention here whenever there is a comment made regarding business policy that might affect the wireless industry. Just so that it is about the policy, not in regards to the politics of it. Although from time to time some joking around about politics relating to wireless issues can be fun. I'd of course love to see yet another Trump vs Legere Twitter feud. Also, I am curious as to which wireless carriers the candidates have for their wireless service

Yeah. I can definitely see Clinton allowing mergers (Heck, she'd probably let Verizon buy out every carrier large and small in the country because they donate large amounts to her). Sanders would definitely appoint an FCC chair that would almost never allow acquisitions or mergers. I bet Trump would try to get them into one carrier and then call it 'Trump Wireless' ;) .

As to candidates' carriers, my guesses are:

    Clinton: Verizon

    Trump: T-Mobile

    Sanders: VTel Wireless

  15. Absolutely! What Marcelo needs to do is to make a deal like no one has ever seen before. It'll be this yuuuuuuggge deal where he's going to get U.S. Cellular to meeerrrggge into Sprint and I tell you it's going to be so great. Sprint's got so much more spectrum than ANYbody its like no comparison there. But that's not all. The new Sprint is going to be so amazing, I tell you. Not only is Marcelo going to get U.S. Cellular, but he's going bring jobs back to Sprint there will be so much business going back to Sprint and all the other carriers are going to be so envious that Sprint will need to build a wall around its corporate headquarters, but I tell you Marcelo is going to do it, and he's going to get John Legere to personally pay for it.

Althoughhh, Sprint might decide to make a deal with T-Mobile, I don't know, but I'm sure if it did, it would be great, really great. Marcelo and John are friends, really great friends. And you know that whatever deal they may make, it'll be great. But whatever happens, Sprint will be great again!

I must say. I wrote it as a Sanders "yuuge", but expected some might see it as a Trump "yuuge". Doesn't matter because they both have Brooklyn accents. However, that post is the greatest I have read on S4GRU. I can just hear Trump saying that. Thanks for the laugh!

  16. $65 for unlimited everything (including unlimited hotspot) makes this carrier a must look at for people living in Iowa and Western Illinois. I am pullin down an average of 25Mb/s with a peak of 50. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal with all the other carriers able to top out at 100 in certain places. But if you know Iowa and Western Illinois, then that is a big deal :-).

Now, if Sprint could buy USCC, that would be a huge shot in the arm for this area.

Completely agree. I don't have iWireless, but I know people that have it and love that it has great coverage & decent(not spectacular) but reliable speeds. Also, a Sprint/USCC merger would be a "yuuge" boost to Sprint's midwestern network. Not likely, but it'd be awesome.
