  1. Don't get these assessments wrong. Internet browsing and light video still worked. I'm just comparing the network this year to last.

In 2016, messages, calls, and Internet worked flawlessly. I was able to pull down at least 60 Mbps when my phone was on Band 41 in the MGM/NYNY area. But in 2017, the phone rarely broke 5 Mbps on B41 in the same locations. (Off topic, but I highly recommend Shake Shack to both visitors and locals. Better burgers than that crap called In N Out)

Stick to LTE for data. My main concern was the massive drop in speeds and the SMS/MMS/Call reliability. MGM resorts added wifi to their lobbies/rooms, so data was never really an issue. Texts and calls was the thing that got me.

I just got back from a week trip there. Service was awful on the strip. LTE was so slow iMessages would not even send, and this was on all different bands, including B41 "Spark". Rootmetric scores account for this change. 2016 Sprint was number 1 across the board, this year they dropped to third. It's a bummer considering B41 is Sprint's latest and greatest!

  2. I was just at the Kentucky Derby this weekend and wanted to comment on my experience in Churchill Downs. On both the Friday of the Oaks and the Saturday of the Derby, I had good strong LTE (B25) signal at Churchill Downs, but could not get any internet access at all; the connection consistently timed out. Early in the morning on Saturday, I was able to pull meager speeds of about 1mbps down, but the connection started to time out as more people arrived, which led me to believe that whatever tower(s) is/are responsible for covering that area was/were just overburdened by the sheer number of people in the area. I didn't see any B41, so that certainly didn't help congestion either. I figure with upgraded backhaul for the tower or towers in question and possibly having 1-2 carriers of B41 coverage there next year, the experience might be noticeably different.

For the sake of comparison, I had friends on AT&T and Verizon who both had consistent service with no interruptions, so it is obviously possible. No info on T-Mobile in the area.

I would assume it's probably because Sprint uses 5x5mhz for bandwidth while Att and Verizon use 10x10mhz.

  3. I have been to the site a couple of times already. I think that the NV equipment is on the very top. I found it hard to get good pictures because the time of day I went there were lots of cars and not many places to pull of that little road. I have pictures of far off, and right under it. Hope you have better luck. My pictures are posted in the interactive maps section under the thread for Nashville, West/East Kentucky.

Just posted my pictures in the West/East Kentucky interactive map thread, the same one you posted yours in.

  4. I'm out in Middletown in Lake Forest. My house has usually needed an Airave because of the horrible Sprint reception. Our phones usually had -108db signal outside. Inside signal was nonexistent. I noticed for the past week that I wasn't hearing the three beeps before the start of a call (indicating I was connected through the Airave). I unplugged the Airave on Monday and voila, all of our Sprint phones (iPhone 5 and 4, 2 Samsung Transform Ultras) have been working fine without the Airave. *99 indicates I'm not connected to an Airave, and signal outside is -88db, inside it varies from -89db through -98db. I'm not sure what they are doing but I'm liking it! Inside I actually have been getting useable 3G speeds, .70mbps down/ .55mbps up with ping around 98-175. Any ideas of what they could be up to?
