  1. They have been Testing in and around Charleston WV since Mid 2015 and the last I heard from anyone was August about a soft trial/launch to Android devices only and then a targeted date specifically for "This area or Around this area" to be OCT/NOV of 2015. And that was completely contingent on how things were working with trial periods.

Unfortunately I don't know what I'm allowed/not allowed to say in regards to specifics, so I didn't bring that up on here back in August when I was told that.

Trials ? This is mature technology. Sounds more like the contingency once based around who pays for this.

  2. The PLMN is broadcast from the carrier/site, but the device has to be configured to recognize the PLMN. In order for Sprint devices to connect to nTelos LTE, either the towers must be updated to also broadcast the Sprint PLMN, or Sprint devices need to be updated to accept the nTelos PLMN.

This makes a lot more sense.  Thank you so much for clarifying.

    Objectives of a GSM PLMN[edit]

The general objective of a PLMN is to facilitate wireless communication and to interlink the wireless network with the fixed wired network. The PLMN was specified by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) following up with their GSM specification. Even as times changed, the GSM PLMN objectives conceptually remained the same.

    • To give access to the GSM network for a mobile subscriber in a country that operates the GSM system.
    • To provide facilities for automatic roaming, locating and updating of mobile subscribers.
    • To provide the subscriber a wide range of services and facilities, both voice and non voice, that are compatible with those offered by existing networks like PSTN and ISDN.

There is also this rather ambiguous bit of data, from Wikipedia.

  4. The Equivalent PLMN (E-PLMNlist allows a network to provide the UE with a list of PLMN identities. A PLMN is identified by the combination of Mobile Country Code (MCC), and Mobile Network Code (MNC) that the UE should treat as equivalent for the purposes of PLMN selection, cell selection/reselection and handover.

Blindly going by this vague definition, it seems to be something that would be done on the carrier side, unrelated to PRLs or Profiles.

  5. It's crazy I have to turn off LTE on my iPhone 6s to stay off of 1x and get 3g. If I turn on the LTE it will get stuck on 1x and I turn off LTE it won't switch to 3g until I turn on airplane mode.

FWIW After upgrading to the latest iOS 9.1 beta, the baseband firmware updated and I do not experience this issue. It seems to be an Apple problem.

  6. I imagine it won't be clear to anyone until money exchanges hands. Right now we are at the mercy of the nTelos master plan which they keep pretty tight. They will keep building enough to comply with current contractual obligations until the merger actually happens, at which point shentel will start with their own plan after they asses the current state of the network they are buying which, again, won't be clear until shentel has boots on the ground. God only knows what nTelos might be hiding. Hopefully it isn't a river of shit.

  7. Went to The sprint repair center on electric road, sent by customer service. The reset network settings, restored phone to factory, ran some apple specific diagnostic tool, could not figure out the issue. They ordered a replacement. Asked about the nTelos thing and was told that it is unlikely a network issue as it would affect other manufacturers. Tech found accounts of folks having a similar issue on VZW. Might be an apple issue. The y will only care about it if we complain.

  8. Hello All,

New to this forum but I live at Lake Monticello and work in Charlottesville. When I upgraded to the 6S my phone wants to stay in 1X when I have the Use LTE switch on. I can confirm that my family that uses nTelos have band 25 LTE here.

This is my issue with my 6s plus. Keeps dropping to 1x.

  9.  Why would the sprint reps say we will be able to use 4g in 30 days it makes no sense to tell me where going to be able to use 4g and we don't and we're talking about the Canton Ohio then go to see about my upgrade and ask the rep at Valley View he said the exact same thing as Canton Ohio so heck it was sprint people update the towers maybe there waiting on the 165 foot tower over by the Star that they being fighting Roanoke council about the people tried to ge not to get it by Roanoke council members passed the bill they could build it.

I think he is referring to this :

Worth noting that the tower is initially going to be used by AT & T and NTelos.  I say this, because, at first, I thought he was talking about a Sprint Native tower.  But it is an Ntelos tower.  The project was approved one month ago.  Can't imagine that construction and Setup will be done in such short time.
