Looks like it's the tower on Lincoln Ave is broadcasting LTE, had a great signal when I drove past!!
-
I have LTE in urbana as well. I'm right off of airport road, by farm and fleet....
-
Sprint says that 4g LTE is about to launch in Campaign because it shows it on their updated map on their site.
I just saw that on the coverage maps! Awesome!! Hopefully within the next few days!

Really bad data coverage on campus this week. Like 0 data coverage (no eHRPD, EV-DO or LTE), voice dropped out of 800 back to 1xRTT, roaming to Verizon at times, etc. Just lots of dead connectivity, or times when there is eHRPD signal but it never handshakes to data. I hope that means they're turning something on and things get better again real quick. :/
Of course, we said that when this happened back in the fall (October?).
I agree - coverage has sucked on campus this week (and a lot in Urbana too) - Has anyone seen any crews at the towers?!?

Crews have been working on the tower off of Lincoln ave - there is a trailer parked inside the fence, as well as the ropes for safety harnesses hanging from the tower.........

Looks like crews are working on the tower on Cunningham Ave, right by MTD! - They were up in the top part of the towers with the antennas
-
makes sense - what would cause it to change to that from eHRPD?

Does anyone know, or can anyone explain what CDMAEVDORevA is? Just noticed this on a Speed test this afternoon in Urbana?!? It's always shown something different..........

There are 3 towers down in CU and they are doing upgrades. I was told by sprint care Oklahoma call center that the 800 spectrum is tba but the 1.9 and 2.5 are to be live whenever they are done on these towers

Did they tell you which towers? I haven't seen crews anywhere lately.....
-
I haven't been getting 3G around town either, but I haven't seen any crews working on the sites lately??? I've only been getting 1x in most places and it's taking forever to place calls.........Called spring today about dropped calls and no 3g. Apparently towers are having issues and being upgraded. Network vision 2.0? Supposed to get a call back Thursday from sprint about the status of the towers

EDIT: You are talking about champaign Urbana right?!?!

I went by the tower in north Urbana (Lincoln & I-74). There is new fiber from the tower to to the street. Picture below (if I did this right). It looks new!
I saw that there a few weeks back - however I was by there yesterday and it looks like they have dug some more than they had a few weeks ago! It would be so nice of they get LTE going in Urbana!!

If you drive past the tower they are talking about, you WILL get LTE, and you will see they have been doing upgrades for several weeks there. Look around the tower and you will find posts that say something like "Fiber buried here"....I posted pictures of the exact same tower that is mentioned above (near parkland college)......I drove past it tonight and LTE was live.LTE has been active for short periods, a few hours up to a couple of days, on numerous upgraded towers that don't yet have upgraded backhaul. Presumably this is done for testing purposes. I've seen it all over central Illinois since last fall. LTE for one day, then gone. LTE showing up for a few hours or days does not mean the new backhaul is installed.
I frequently get over 1 mbps late evening and early morning on the 3G tower near my home.
EDIT: Adding a pic to show my speedtest from the tower by Parkland College

Yeah but is that an Sprint tower? I watched a crew put up a tower on Harris Ave in Champaign; and looking at everything seems to be Sprint Samsung hardware but who knows? Sprint Customer Support doesn't claim it. I know its likely they wouldn't even if it was theirs.I will have to upload some photo's but it looks a lot like the ones I have seen on this forum.
Yes it is a Sprint Tower, it shows on sprint.com/network as well as sponsor maps....

Crews working on a tower by parkland college in champaign.....guessing that's backhaul fiber on the roll??EDIT: They are also installing new orange-tipped markers that say there is fiber buried below around the tower as well as on both sides of the bridge that's by it.........
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Maybe. There is a ton of fiber all over for various reasons.

I realize that. But there are several sites that have the fiber markers near them, that weren't there a few months ago. They also have orange flags marking where it runs, like someone has or is about to dig there
-
Don't get your hopes up, it is likely just testing as we have been seeing all over Champaign County for months now. Unfortunately, no signs of upgraded backhaul, which is needed before 4G goes live for real.
If you go by some of the sites you'll notice some orange poles that say "Warning fiber cable below..." or something along those lines...I'm guessing that it is for the towers?? It would only make sense. Also driving by I've seen crews working on the towers.
They have LTE in Rantoul, St. Joe, Tuscola, Mahomet, and other surrounding areas. I can pickup LTE around Walmart in Urbana, and off of Cottonwood Rd. in Urbana as well. It's getting closer.

LTE popping up in Urbana, IL around Windsor and Philo Road!

Anyone noticed any upgrades going on in Urbana or Champaign??
-
Just drove by a tower on University Ave in Urbana and noticed all kind of orange flags, as well as an orange pole that said "Warning fiber optic cable"........so I'm assuming and hoping that this is for the tower? If it is, how long do you think it will take to put in and enable LTE?

Well I can get LTE around Rantoul, IL...I've got it in Mahomet, St. Joe, Tuscola, Fisher before...That pretty much covers all towns surrounding Champaign-Urbana, so maybe we're next? Wishful thinking!
-
So this may be a stupid question, but since more and more sites around Champaign-Urbana are becoming 3G/800/LTE Sites, I've decided to keep checking on towers that are close to my frequent locations to see if I can see any upgrades taking place.....anything in particular I should look for?
