  1. Yeah, I hear that the final stumbling block in the details of the Sprint purchase of Tmo, is that Legere is insisting that the new company be headquartered in Denver.  Tmo execs that stay onboard insist on experiencing that Mile High experience.

    Robert

So you're saying the last hurdle to this (is it actually going to happen? Honest question, I'm seriously considering moving to T-Mob) is the fact Legere just wants to get stoned to the bejeezus at his HQ?

Damn, I wish now that I could find a "Green 18 Green 18" snap count video loop.  That would be far more appropriate for this Chicago thread.  It would give our Windy Citians sausage induced nightmares.

    :P

    AJ

There is no such thing AJ, sausage only induces dreams, not nightmares.

So I just wanted to share this because I thought it was hilarious.  I was exchanging tweets with people who were also noting slow LTE services from Sprint, basically just letting them know they are not alone as we have similar problems here in Chicago.  I then received three separate tweets from three separate people at @sprintcare.  All asking me for the same thing, what are my cross streets and zip code so they can look and see if there is any trouble in my area.  So I gave all three the exact same address, my office at Ogilvy, and low and behold all three responded with a different synopsis.  One responded and said there were outages in my area and towers were being fixed, one responded and said there are no outages in my area and recommended I do a data profile refresh, and the last one responded and said the towers in my area haven't been updated to LTE yet.  I almost keeled over laughing at all three.  That made my day.

HAHAHAHA! Fantastic. Those dart boards they're throwing at must be getting pretty worn out. Once they start with a new batch of one-liners, we'll know they finally had to be replaced.

  2. What part of elgin? My parents live in elgin and I haven't seen any problems with snr around elgin lately?

I live on the NE side of Elgin and SNR is usually pretty bad around there. I was driving b/w the Beverly and 25 exits last night and SNR was somewhere around 1.0-1.5. Data speeds were awful as expected. It could barely keep up with streaming ESPN Radio.

  3. Your crazy logic tells me this won't happen.  Of course I want a tri-band LTE phone ASAP, but phones without contract upgrades are $500+.  How many people either will just pay out of the pocket for the phone, or have a contract upgrade coming anytime soon.  I guess its fine for new Sprint subscribers to assume they will have tri-band devices, but you know what, I am 1000x more tech savy than any Sprint customer, understand how much better my LTE could be if I went tri-band, and I still won't be upgrading for at least a year.  I will be sitting here expecting my GS3 with LTE 1900 to perform like LTE, and if it doesn't I will leave Sprint.  My next upgrade is Nov 2014, if the network doesn't work well on 1900 I will have 0% confidence that it would on 800/2600, and I am certainly not spending $500 before then to get the LTE I thought I was getting when I got the GS3 (when NV was announced).

Same boat as me. I think my renewal is up sometime around July though as I got the GS3 literally right when it came out. I was sitting on an upgrade for probably 18 months previously to that, but nothing came out that really piqued my interested until the GS3. Anyway, I'm on contract through then so I'll abide by it. If things don't drastically improve, consider this 10+ year Sprint vet jumping ship. Which is a bummer because I've been a big supporter of theirs for years always thinking things would get better...and they just don't.

I did notice one thing last night though. While around the Hoffman Estates/Elgin/Schaumburg areas, the speeds are pretty brutal for LTE. I was at the Des Plaines Oasis last night for a few minutes and tethered my Galaxy Note 8 to my phone. LTE was a strong signal and speeds were solid. I didn't run any tests, but I was getting around 5Mbps down through LTE, which is a heck of a lot better than I'm used to seeing, being far less than 1.

  4. He means installing other roms and such. Verizon does not allow that whereas T-Mobile and Sprint allow it. Some people (me included) value that.

Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

Exactly. And yeah, Verizon provides "developer" phones for a higher price to do the same thing you can do on any other provider for the regular price of any phone you buy. The "developer" edition of the GS3 on Verizon for example is the same exact GS3 I bought on Sprint...it has an unlocked bootloader and Verizon charges a serious premium for it.

I didn't personally buy a GS3 because of all the bells and whistles it has to go with it. I bought it because it was the best phone that has a removable battery (so I can put an extended one in there) AND expandable storage. Some phones have neither (Nexus) and other phones have one but not the other.

I don't want to go to VZW or ATT either.  Those companies are ones that lobby against internet freedom, were pro SOPA/PIPA, and side with institutions like RIAA and govt when it comes to limiting, blocking, capping, and exploiting data and consumer privacy.  Problem is I can't stand have a minor league LTE network either.

I'm with you 100% on that one. I'm around wifi most of the day as it is, so I didn't notice the bad speed drops for a while because of this reason. The only things I was doing while on the road (not at work or at home) was streaming ESPN Radio and Pandora, but even now those are becoming less and less reliable. I was originally thinking it was the apps themselves, but now I know it's because I'm not getting jack for download transfer :(

  5. Most likely me too, when my contract is up I will just go with whatever Rootmetrics says is the best LTE network in Chicago.  I can't sit around and keep waiting and going through these one step forward two step back moments with Sprint.

I absolutely refuse to go with Verizon. I don't like the way the completely lock everything down (also why I don't like Apple) among other things. I probably stuck with Sprint so long because they were pretty friendly with the rooting community, but TMob is too. AT&T I don't know if I could go with them either. It's like I hate big establishment, but they seem to offer the best service...dang it!!

I'm looking forward to Sprint figuring out whatever this issue is, more than likely because of what's going on here, among us. Hey, the whole CarrierIQ thing totally blew up because of a few people noticing things weren't quite as they seemed. This isn't that, but it's not like it takes thousands of people complaining to get something to change. Provide some real evidence and maybe things will change for the better.

  6. Just curious if this is just affecting all Chicago users on any Sprint LTE phone or just the GS3.  Not saying this is just a GS3 thing but just trying to get more info.

There's been other people reporting it with other phones as well, but some are alluding to the fact the GS3 might be to blame which would make me a sad panda. I love my GS3.

I'm still about 99% certain I'll be heading to TMob when my contract is up next summer. I've been with Sprint for over a decade now and I've been holding on as long as I can. I had to sway wifey into sticking with them last summer when NV was at it's worst. Now this, and she's been telling me about more and more dropped calls lately too. It's just too much when you rely on your phones as much as we do.

I spoke with a guy named Samuel at OpenSignal.  He was willing to help.  I believe OpenSignal uses user based Apps that run in the background to monitor wireless networks and send the data back to OpenSignal to catalog. Samuel told me he investigated speed reports from Chicago on Sprint and noticed a decline starting in September, though not to the point of complete crash we have noticed.  He asked if myself and others in this board would be willing to install the OpenSignal App to start feeding them so more data so he could investigate further.  I volunteered and said OK.  Will my friends Vtrossi, CubbieFan82, Drock2750, ChiWestLoop, and any others please follow suite and install the OpenSignal app?

Hey fellas. I've been away from the site for a little while and just popped in earlier this morning. I saw I had about 12 pages of unread posts in this thread and I thought somehow my last unread place was lost...not the case.

I haven't been as much of a power user lately as I have been previously, but I've been seeing some serious issues as well, and it's ridiculous. I'll run with the Open Signal thing too. Just for kicks, I installed the Signal Lite and SpeedTest apps just a little while ago and ran some test. Like you guys, things aren't looking good.

Bit about me: Running a GS3 I got pretty much right when it came out. Rooted and running SlimBean, so it has Android 4.3 on it right now. I'll post this here from my laptop and I'll try to update it with some screenshots in hopes it might shed some light on things from another perspective.

I work right by Woodfield Mall and have a few towers pretty close to me. Both of these tests were done at my desk, which is pretty close to a few towers, but I'm also on the 10th floor, so I don't know how that affects things.

Since I've been sitting here, I've seen that SNR number go from about 0.5 up to a little over 6.0, for what it's worth.

  8. Just got done driving from the Chicagoland area to Rockford. Data was basically unusable all the way from Hoffman estates to basically Rockford. I even dropped a few calls. Not good. Anyone else experience this horribly long stretch of I-90?

Yup, that's a pretty horrid stretch. Even worse considering the whole freaking part is under construction. As the other guy said, once you get past Randall Rd, it's pretty much no good until you get around Rockford. I'm moving out to the Huntley area in a few months so I hope they get everything figured out by then. You can stream something like Pandora, but that's about it, and even that skips and has to re-buffer now and then.

  9. It seems strange that there would be no service at all. Was it just data that was out or voice too? You're right that it shouldn't be a NV transition issue, as both of the two closest sites to Soldier Field are 3G/4G accepted, and at least one has 1x SMR. It's definitely true that Chicago is one of Sprint's most spectrum-constrained markets with just 20 MHz of PCS, but if the site was overloaded I would think you'd still have some service, albeit very slow.

It's the responsibility of every major carrier to have adequate coverage at all major events, including something on the scale of Lollapalooza, since these are otherwise well coordinated gatherings planned out months in advance. Put out some COWs or better yet, install permanent small cells. It is precisely these sorts of places where people get together that they have the opportunity to compare cell phone service, and if they can't step up I'm sure it will lead to churn.

The USCC network is due to shutdown on January 31, so if capacity is the problem then we can only hope Sprint will rapidly deploy their newly acquired 20 MHz of PCS to bolster voice capacity and 3G speeds.

I was wondering if the US Cellular acquisition would play a part in this or not. I live out towards the Hoffman Estates area and things around here are better than they were months ago, that's for sure. I still run into issues here and there with LTE not providing much speed (we're talking less than 1Mbps) which is disappointing, but it's better than the literal non-existent speed I'd get from 3G.

The most disappointing thing is at my office. I'm up on the 10th floor right over near Woodfield. I used to get awesome speeds from LTE sitting at my desk, now I get virtually nothing. Sometimes it's okay at best, but most of the time, I have to hook on to our guest wifi and use that to actually do anything data related.

  10. Felt like I should come in here and give a little update. I live over in the West burbs, near Hoffman Estates/Elgin and work in Schaumburg. My wife and I were having MASSIVE issues a few weeks back with people not being able to hear us when we would answer the phone, and all sorts of other issues.

I wanted to write and update and let anyone know who may be having similar issues to ditch the Google Voice integration. I'm not 100% this was the sole culprit as it could've been the updates around us being completed, but I haven't had a single issue in the past 3-4 weeks or so. Not one. Not one dropped call, not one person not being able to hear me when I answer their call. Nothing.

As far as I'm concerned, the network around where I am is pretty solid. I have LTE probably 98% of the time and the last few times I have been on 3G, it's not only been usable, but fast (1.5Mbps, which I think is pretty darn good for Sprint 3G).

  11. I'm losing my mind and my patience over the callers not being able to hear me issue. It hasn't gotten much better for me, but I'm glad to hear that it is for others. I live in the Wheaton / Warrenville / Winfield area if this matters to anyone? Can anyone in this area confirm that almost the entirety of Winfield Road north of I-88 up to the railroad tracks is almost a dead zone? There is a 4G tower near I-88 but I lose the signal around Butterfield road and am either getting no data signal, or weak (dial-up speed or time-out) 3G until I reach the tracks where I pick up the 4G (sometimes) from the tower at Central Dupage hospital.

I'm afraid to call tech support or do anything because my phone is rooted with a custom ROM and when I had US Cellular they shut my phone off when they found this out and I had a pain in the ass of a time getting it back, so I'd rather avoid Sprint tech support. However, if this keeps up I might have to flash back to stock and do something because it's so bad that whenever someone calls me I let it roll to voicemail and then call them back because if I answer they won't be able to hear me. This happens all around the dupage area. I never had this problem 2 months ago so I know it has nothing to do with my phone.

On another note, did they ever do anything about the Evo 4G LTE signal problems? Half the time the phone is on 3G even though there are 4G towers around the area, and I still have to do the airplane mode flip to get the phone to switch to 4G. I tried setting the phone to LTE/CDMA only but being on 1X is painful and it still happens far too often for me to turn off 3G entirely. The other problem is that when the phone is in 3G mode (especially in the Winfield/Warrenville area and Winfield Road corridor), it's unusable and below dial-up speeds.

I'm wondering if I would solve so many problems if I just upgraded to a Galaxy S4? I am really unhappy with the Evo.

Are you integrating with Google Voice by chance? Both my wife and I noticed things got better when we ditched that integration. I don't know if it was that or Sprint's network actually getting better, so it could be a coincidence.

Also, as you stated in your post, you know it's not a problem with your phone as you didn't have this issue a few months back. Upgrading to the S4 wouldn't fix the problem (outside maybe the LTE part) since it's not a hardware problem.

Since Sprint started the rollout in the West burbs and moved in towards the city, I'm guessing this issue will be solved in the same manner. You're a bit further East than me, so I would think it would start getting better for you shortly as it did for me. Not 100% yet, but it is better.

  12. Whether in the burbs or a city rat like me one thing I have learned, time frame's mean nothing, its all about patience. I have already resigned to the fact that it will probably take Sprint until the end if this year if not longer to full complete Chicago and the Loop, all towers, all backhaul, no holes, Loop, burbs, on top of buildings, etc etc. The reason I feel we can and should be patient is b/c a lot of what the mods have said here portrays this LTE network (once actually finished) as more technically capable than Verizon's or ATTs. More towers, better backhaul, better coverage (downtilt), more spectrum coming (US Cellular)......and what we all know unlimited non-throttled LTE data for less price. Basically more value. Its just getting there which is painful for those both in the burbs like you, and living and working in the Loop like me.

Yeah, I think it'll take the rest of the year as well. However, once all is said and done, I honestly believe Sprint will have the best network in Chicago, and that's a big deal. Especially when they can get all their 800mhz working to get better building penetration as well. That's a big deal too.

I don't care too much about data speeds I just want the actual phone (voice) to work! I'm bathing in LTE almost everywhere I go. The only time I see a 3G icon is in the elevator at work, or maybe a conference center over near O'Hare.

  13. No way you are driving through the Loop area then. Last week with the Brown Line construction I rode the 156 LaSalle bus, not a whiff of LTE down LaSalle from Wacker to Jackson. I also rode the Brown Line loop circular they had running last week to get around the Loop too, again not a whiff of LTE circling the Loop on the elevated tracks. And as we all know 3G is spotty and sluggish at best. I get many instances where my bars still show up, but the 3G icon drops off, essentially rending the phone "no service" b/c if you try and do anything during this period you just get "no connection" notifications. Id say Sprint has a long way to go in getting a reliable network up and running in the Loop.

I think they have a lot of work left to do in the loop area as well. It was the last place they started work in the Chicago market and is probably much more complex than the burbs.

A short update on the issues I was having before (people not being able to hear when I picked up, dropped calls all the time, etc) it does seem to be getting better. I don't take as many phone calls as my wife does, but I don't think I've had someone not hear me when I answer in probably a week or more, which is AWESOME. It's kinda sad when you're excited your phone service works as it should, but given the massive undertaking this is, I'm hoping just a few more weeks and it'll all be straightened out in the NW burbs.

  14. I spoke with a sprint Tech support rep today. I was told that there was still a series of tower in my area, 60657, Lincoln Park, that underwent NV upgrades starting April 7th which are schedule to be complete on July 5th. I don't have the specific towers, but we can see many Chicago towers turning from purple LTE pins to Green 3G/800/4G pins so that could account for the "work being done". This could also be a completion date for the market itself, which would shed some light on the build out of the Loop area which is creeping along ever so slowly. By my count there are still about 20 towers to go in the Loop. This July 5th data could be backhaul upgrades....I just don't know, but the fact that something started April 7th and is ending July 5th is a positive sign. This thing might be on its last legs, but it ain't over yet folks.

So does anyone have any reasonable ball park date when the rollout will be complete in Chicago? Anything, even a month?

  15. I think it's going to be a different ball game for Sprint with SoftBank ownership.

In a good way or in a bad way, in your opinion?

As an update from some of my recent posts...I worked from home yesterday and had to take three calls where people called me. All of them went through and they could hear me! Sounds like it's a lot to get excited about, but I'm glad I was 3-for-3. Someone was asking before about my cell level with numbers:

It was right around -86-88 (I think, I can verify tonight) while on the main level and about -103 when in my basement, which is where I took the calls. No drops, no answering the phone and not being able to have people hear me. Maybe things are on the up and up!!

  16. Would legacy equipment be getting uninstalled have anything to do with this?

    Sent while driving.

Shouldn't by itself unless the new Samsung equipment is complete garbage. The handoffs between legacy (Motorola) and new (Samsung) equipment was causing problems right out the gate.

  17. EDIT - I take that back, the Schaumburg area still has alot of legacy towers left now that I looked closer. Makes sense then that you're seeing this.

And that would make sense except we live in Elgin. I posted earlier the two most likely towers we're most likely connecting to at home and they're both 3G/4G upgraded (yellow dots).

  18. Maybe u need another phone?

Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Nexus rockin 4.2.2 using Tapatalk 2

Nah, my wife is on her third phone and it's still all the same thing.

It's definitely not just him, when I have recently driven around the Chicago area using my S3 voice service/dropped calls are the worst I have experienced in many years. Specifically, dropped calls while driving, not in one spot but in a bunch. Maybe there are stilll handoff issues since towers still need to be upgraded so hoping. Its insane on a 20-25 minute call to drop 3 times in different spots miles from each other. It is worse than it was months ago. fyi, I have a recent PRL that should include 800Mhz.

Also have noticed in last few weeks, but had been having major problems at home/elsewhere with calls going to VM without it ringing.

With regards to your calls going right to voicemail...I'm betting your further East than me, closer to the city than the Elgin/Schaumburg area? I ask because that's the problem we were having a few months back. Calls weren't even coming in, the only way we'd know someone called is if they left a VM. Now the calls come in, but they can't hear us if we answer.

Hopefully it's not a pattern, where as you'll see the "can't hear you" problem in the upcoming weeks.

This has to be some remnant of the issue between legacy Moto hardware and Samsung equipment.

So it looks like it isn't just me in my area afterall!!! Sorry for you guys, but I'm actually a little happy to hear that. I agree 100% it has to do with the switch to Samsung towers. They found out real quick there was a massive handoff issue when going from Moto to Samsung towers which is why they had to change their entire rollout plan. However, now that more and more towers have been updated to Samsung towers, the issue is still there, and seemingly all over the place.

I was beginning to think the issue may be with the SGSIII (which would make me sad as I love this phone) but I see one of the guys (wtsguy) who posted was using an EVO LTE so it's not a phone thing. People in different places, with different phones leaves only one thing left...the network.

For what it's worth, on my wife's first phone, it was rooted with a slightly custom ROM. Second phone was just rooted, but a stock ROM. Third phone isn't even rooted. Same problems regardless of ROM or root.

My phone has been running an AOSP ROM for a while and the issues don't seem to be as bad for me as for her, but she uses her phone a lot more than I do too.

As I mentioned before, the way we "fixed" this at home was to get GrooveIP for VOIP calling so all our calls now go through wifi. It's been great since that, go figure. However, that doesn't help when we're away from home and the issue is still there.

Does anyone know if Sprint allows VOIP calling over their network? I could technically use GrooveIP over Sprint's LTE network, but I'm not sure if they even allow it or not. Right now, I only have it set to work over wifi.

  19. I still don't get how you know its just you that is having this problem. You say the problems all started with the NV upgrades to your local towers. Have you tried updating PRL, perhaps your tower went to 800 Mhz and you need a refresh of PRL to be able to use it. Also, if the tower is bad like you say wouldn't every sprint customer near by also be affected. Can you verify this with friends or coworkers who have Sprint, bring them over, or at least if they have similar problems in the neighborhood.

Yup, gone through the updating of PRL and Profile and all that jazz.

I don't know it's just me that's having this issue, I have a feeling it's quite a few people around this area who have Sprint. Thing is, most people don't use their phones as phones as much as we do, so the problem is a pretty big one. If you only make 1-2 calls a day, it's no big deal. But when you're making 40-50 and over half of the calls you receive run into this issue (the other person not being able to hear you when you answer), it creates a big problem.

And frankly, Sprint hasn't had exactly a shining reputation around Chicago, so I don't think there are all that many people using Sprint in this area to begin with. Chicago has always been a thorn in their side, but that's expected to get better with the NV upgrades and the US Cellular spectrum deal as well. Verizon rules around here hands down.

  20. Are certain here that your dropped calls, straight to voice-mail, text messages not sending/receiving is solely b/c of signal strength? I mean its the obvious choice, but it seems so......retro. I mean I remember having similar problems in the days of Motorola startac, Amertitech Cellular, Cellular One, and Cingular. But at the time, everyone knew cellular networks were in there infancy, had many many dead zones (especially outside of metro areas), and part of doing business was poor coverage and dropped calls. Today that seems to be an issue of a different era. Have you actually been able to measure your signal strength, in dB, like from the engineering screen. That way you could measure the variance in signal strength inside your house, outside your house, around your neighborhood, in your neighbor's house. At least this way you could figure out is it your house that's causing a potential low signal, is it Sprint's coverage in your neighborhood, is it your block, etc etc.

You should also be asking the question if this isn't a signal strength issue then what could it be; your device, the geography or topography of your neighborhood, the location of Sprint's tower, the capacity of Sprint's tower, the density of sprint users in your neighborhood, the location of other carrier's towers, etc etc.

That's the thing is we always have pretty legit signal. I haven't verified with dB ratings but I certainly could. I hear you on this seeming like a very old problem, but I can assure you, it's very real and very relevant. The dropped calls is one thing. Answering a call to not having the other person be able to hear you is another thing completely. My wife is on her third phone. I have a hard time believing the same problem could happen on three separate devices.

We live in the burbs of Chicago, there's nothing but flat land and small hills around so I don't think the topography would be an issue.

What I do know is this was never a problem before the upgrades to NV started. Everything worked well as far as voice was concerned. Data was pretty much nonexistant, but that wasn't just us...that was Sprint 3G as a whole.

Do you have an airwave? Many of us live in older homes built from brick and 1900mhz can't penetrste. I get no reception in the house and about 4 bars on my front porch. Sprint's airave gives me 5 bars inside my house and I don't think I've ever dropped a call on it,whereas I use to have to be outside. If you tell sprint of your situation they may offer you one.

Not sure if this was directed at me or not, but yes, we do have an airave at home too. Phones would only connect to it a very small percentage of the time, and when they did, voice worked fine, but SMS was a crapshoot. I would randomly receive about 10 text messages at once as it was like they were all held and delivered at the same time. I would respond and someone would ask why it took me hours to respond or something like that. If that wasn't the issue, there were many times where when connected to the airave, we couldn't sent text messages out, so I had to revert to Google Voice to send them instead.

All in all, I ended up buying GrooveIP so we can can make calls via wifi while at home. This seems to have worked fine for now. I'm just hoping this will all get fixed up in the next few months around the area. The problem still persists while out and about, specifically around the East part of Elgin, and the southern parts of Algonquin.

  21. I have no idea what to tell you. But if you run a business, you cannot let it be held hostage to a wireless carrier. You've got to do something. If Sprint cannot meet your needs, you either need to get an additional carrier or replace your carrier.

S4GRU is a business too, albeit not to make money. Whereas you probably like to make money with yours. It requires me to be connected wherever I go. Sprint did not provide me usable coverage in all the places I go. We had to buy a Verizon hotspot to supplement our data so I can stay connected to S4GRU in more places. It's not optional. I have to stay connected with our members and the needs of the community. And Sprint could not provide the wireless connectivity in my instance. It's not personal, it's a business decision.

If Sprint cannot provide acceptable wireless service for you to communicate with your customers, then you should consider an alternate provider...whether supplemental, temporary or replacement. Maybe call Sprint retentions and explain to them that you'll have no choice but to leave if they cannot alleviate your problem. Beyond this, I'm at a loss.

That's unfortunately the same conclusion I've come to as well. Right now, the problem seems to be worst at our house, so I bought GrooveIP to route calls though wifi instead. It's only been this morning, but so far so good. I REALLY want to keep Sprint because I like my unlimited data and I honestly think they'll have the best network in Chicago in a short period of time, especially with the US Cellular deal going through as well. I've been with them for about 12 years now, and I just don't want to quite put up the white flag yet.

I like what T-Mobile is doing with their plans (especially since you can get phones off contract and their prices seem pretty solid) so they're an option, but I question their nationwide coverage as well.

Verizon is going to be the best of the best, but I don't like how they treat their customers, nor do I care for their practices of castrating phones and severely limiting what you can do. I can live with their prices, although I do believe they're quite high.

  22. Keep tryin to tell yall that sprint knows what its doin haha. I'm lovin my service in Chicago

Out of curiosity, how much do you use your phone to talk? I ask because my wife and I are right now doing everything possible to try and get rid of Sprint. I've been one of the biggest backers/supporters, etc for Sprint during this whole ordeal, but it's come to it's head now. Now that we're actually getting phone calls (which previously, would frequently just show up as a voicemail or we wouldn't even know people called) the majority of the time when they call us, they can't hear anything. Example, someone calls me, I answer and say "hello". Nothing. I can hear them and they can't hear me. I'll call them back right away and everything is fine.

It's been like this for months, and I simply cannot take it anymore. We run a business through our phones, and this just can't happen anymore. If we used it mostly for data, I'd be happier than a pig in slop, but when it comes to actually using your phone as, you know, a phone, it's absolutely horrendous.

Robert, any idea why this might happen? We both have GS3s, and she's had hers replaced twice now because they keep thinking it's the phone. It's not the phone. It used to only happen at our house, now it's all over the place. We live out near Elgin/Hoffman Estates.

Got an airave at our place too. Problem is, phones only connect to it maybe 20% of the time, and when the phone is connected to the airave, text messages will only be sent out maybe 10% of that time.

She's at home most of the time where the problem happens almost all the time, so I'm going to try and get her setup with GrooveIP so calls will go through wifi instead. It's our only choice for now as their voice service is absolutely atrocious.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I believe the two towers we would have the best chance to connect to at home would be CH13XC509 & CH03XC493.

  23. I spent a few hours in and around Woodfield mall yesterday. I was on 3G the entire time. I just checked the map and there are some 4G towers in that area. I'm really getting worried with my phone. The rollout continues to get better but I'm still on 3G the majority of the time.

I see you're running an EVO LTE, which would explain your issues. If you look at the map on Sensorly, you'll see the Woodfield area is very well covered with LTE.

@mhammet - Whoa, talk about turning the clock back. You're replying to posts from literally five months ago. Thanks for the information though nonetheless.
