  1. I just purchased a home less than .5 miles north of CL03XC150 which is the tower behind Lyndhurst Municipal Court at Mayfield and Richmond.  The tower has great signal to the west but is horrific to the North.  Just a few feet from the tower and I am already down to -95 db.  At my house, where I can physically see the tower, outside I get -105db if I am lucky LTE and inside LTE is almost non-existent.  Worst yet, 1x/36 is about -98db inside my home.  Again I can see the tower.  Is there a reason this tower simply does not have any strength north.  Are there plans to add antennas or increase strength to anyone's knowledge?

There is a tower north of Wilson Mills by Richmond Rd. but that does not seem to reach me either.

I am literally right behind Lyndhurst Park and cannot use the tower which is right there.

Additionally, the tower is at the Municipal building/courthouse and is also not usable from inside the building.  This is going to be a real problem for me if this is not remedied.

Any word on 800 SMR in the area.  There is 1 active at 271 and Mayfiled I believe but my G2 has never connected to it.  I have not seen 800 SMR since a test 6 or so months ago in the basement of the old courthouse on a Note 3.  At that time I was suing a custom PRL.  I can't imagine once 800 SMR is up and running a custom PRL will be required to connect though.

  2. If anyone wants to join a framily, my family has 7 spots open. (I realize my phone says T-mobile because I switched carriers but my mother, sister and brother are still in a framily). The code to join is: #y00523801mF.

I can approve you if you just let me know that you signed up to be apart.

I am still on a 1500 family share plan with unlimited data and looked into switching my 5 lines to framily the other day and the result was a bill about $50 or so a month higher.  Not sure why.  Could have been that they included the monthly cost of new phone but it was certainly not worth the switch.

  3. I used GoSMS back during the gingerbread days, but over time the developers kept adding more useless features and made it bloated.  For third party sms apps I like Textra (very lightweight) or Hellosms (uses sliding cards which I like).  Now with Hangouts being able to handle sms I think it's good enough and don't use any other sms apps.

I do agree.  GoSms has gotten extremely bloated.  I may try Hangouts.

  4. Could you not do insurance claim on the phone?

I don't have insurance.  With cost of deductible and wait time to get new device I figure I will just pay if I break one.  Plus with 5 devices having insurance on each it will cost more then just paying if something happens.  Plus I wanted to keep my phone and not reprogram as it has no microsd and I wanted my titanium backups.  The ability to get it fixed figured in more than the cost.

  5. Well, to be honest if you're replacing entire parts (i.e. Glass/Digitizer/LCD) it's not difficult at all. That's how the stores repair the devices with screen issues. Usually the parts are all together in a single package they receive (or harvest from other devices). You just need a good #00 Phillips screwdriver, a T4/T5/T6 torx and sometimes a tri-wing screwdriver. That's really all any of the phone use (apart from Apple devices). I also suggest getting a couple of the plastic opening tools as well (you can find all of these at www.ifixit.com) just to make sure you have the right tools to take it apart without damaging the casing.

If you've never done it before, take your time. Pay attention to where each type of screw came from and what order you are removing things so you can do it in reverse.

Also, make sure you get the part for your device. It's normal for the various carrier versions to be slightly different because of the way the molding works for various antennae pathways, etc. inside. Make sure it works with the Sprint version.

The phones aren't really that complicated if you're dealing with pre-built parts like this. Now, separating out the digitizer and glass from the LCD on most modern devices is much more difficult, especially zero-gap screen devices.

Thank you for your detailed response.  I am decent and putting electronics together but I know enough about myself in taking prior phones apart that I do not work well in small spaces.  After watching the video on everything you had to remove and how to get to the LCD, which did look easy to replace, I decided against doing it myself.  Plus there were to many different versions of the part to chose from online and none seemed reliable about getting it here next day.

I ended up finding a stand in the local mall and I just bit the bullet and paid $190 for the lcd, digitizer and glass screen with overnight shipping of the part.  A little high but at least I do not have to attempt to do it myself and risk destroying the phone and it will be back in my hands today.  The actual parts with install were $160 which nets them $60 or so in profit to do the work.  Probably worth it to let someone with some experience do the repair.  I don't want to completely brick the device.

I almost just bit the bullet and bought a Nexus 5 but all of the reported Exchange problems kept me away.  One thing about LG's software on the G2 it has the best Exchange support of any Android device I have ever used.  Sub calendars work as well as multiple exchange accounts and email support as well as moving messages between folders is flawless.

  6. I believe starting with Android 4.2 group messaging became a standard feature in Android, but you do have to turn it on in the message settings.  Check your sms app in the MMS settings and you should see group messaging.  Prior to Android 4.2 you had to use a third party sms app such as Textra, Handcent, etc.  I use Hangouts as my sms app and the group message feature is there.

I have been using GOSMS for years.  Does anyone have experience with that and Hangouts and have a preference between the two?  I have been interested in trying hangouts but reluctant.  I cannot use the stock text app as I cannot stand the bubble messages.

  7. I am sure this has been discussed but I cracked the screen on my G2.  I believe it is just the glass and digitizer but I am not sure if it goes all the way to the LCD.  I cannot find anyone local in Cleveland, Ohio who can replace this screen quickly.  One place in the mall said they could do it but it could take 6 days and cost would be $100 for glass and digitizer and $160 if LCD is also bad.  I see online I can buy the glass and digitizer for approx $25 and the whole package with LCD for approx $100 but I am still waiting multiple days for it and I am weary about replacing the screen myself.  Does anyone have any suggestions or know of where I can get the screen replaced today.  The phone is useless as the digitizer is completely broken and I use it for work and need it back asap.

I had contemplated just buying a Nexus 5 but I cannot find anywhere that will sell it to me for $399 as Google would but again I have to wait for shipping then and I hate to go to the smaller battery and lose some of the Sprint apps/features I like for example their visual voicemail.  Has anyone had experience buying one locally for $399 for 32GB?

Thank you everyone in advance for your help/suggestions.

  8. I did a complete wipe and installed kitkat stock rom rooted and it works flawless.  Battery life is better than ever before.  I can go 14 hours easy with moderate usage and multiple push email accounts and still have 80% plus battery.

  9. What are you getting on LTE.. the readings are not apples to apples.. I see very respectable signals on lte of 100-110 without issue. I've speedtested 8mbps at -128dBm and generally have.. and hold a signal at my house of -115 to -117 without issue.

I was able to connect again and it speedtested as follows:

    1.54 up and 1.08 down.

Tapatalk is giving me issues trying to upload screenshots currently but I will give it a go.

I was getting about 2.5mbps down and 1ish up. Right now I am at -107 and cannot get any Internet or locate a server to Speedtest. Leeds me to believe testing is in progress. I do hope they turn up the power once testing is done if that's what it is.

I am not sure what tower I am connecting to but I am right next door to the new 75 public square antennas I watched them install a week or so ago and I have connected a few times 3g to that antenna at like -98db. It is on top of the building literally right next to my office about 3 floors higher than I am and I see it out my office window so I would think at normal operating power I would get a stronger signal then that.

  11. Optimus DE is good, d3rp is also a good rom. Kitkat seems to be coming soon though, so maybe you should wait?

I installed it friday. Running smooth with better battery than stock. Between my stock nand backup and titanium I should have no problem when kitkat comes knocking.

  12. Went live yesterday, Independence and Broadview Heights. This speed test done at I-77 Exit for Wallings. I'm picking it up too from my house at 9Mbps, reliably everywhere but basement. Interestingly connects to both Airave for Voice and then a separate tower for LTE, I read about this but cool to see.

While speeds are great I'm actually curious if anyone knows if bandwidth will improve in the near future. THe speeds are reasonable but we gotta admit sometimes Verizon can really give customers bragging rights when they hit 60Mbps albeit rare. Just feels like Sprint is limiting itself, but then again maybe I just need Spark.

Band 41 while still in testing is really fast in spots downtown.

  13. EVDO error 67 is a data profile authentication error. I am not sure what the LTE error equivalent is, probably 114.

Usually the fix is a profile update to ensure the data on the phone matches the info on the network. You must have some sort of working internet connection to update your profile though, so if your mobile network is not working, you must connect to WiFi to update the profile on the newer phones. You can also do a ##SCRTN# (72786) to reset the phone's network settings and reprovision it, this will cause the phone to remove all the network settings, restart, and go back through the initial OTA hands-free activation again.

If your phone is hotlined or disconnected due to non-payment, suspension, etc. it will also give you an error 67 because your phone will fail to authenticate. If there is a network issue it could cause this as well.

At this particular moment there is a nationwide data issue... "1xRTT, EVDO, eHRPD, and 4G LTE data services may be failing authentication requests preventing users from accessing data services. Voice and SMS text messaging services are not impacted." So right now that may be your issue."

This was in an area in my office where 3g was never an issue.  In the late afternoon though everyday I keep swapping from ehrp to evdo and back.  Could possibly be because they are doing work?  i did pay my bill.  Band 26 would be great especially since I am in an IBEZ sitting right on lake Erie in Cleveland.

  14. So I have a poetic case on my G2 which I like for my purpose but my biggest issue is that the kickstand opens on the wrong side so if I turn on a video in like the WatchESPN app and set my phone up with the kickstand the video is upside down.  Any idea how to make apps the lock video orientation flip to the other side of the screen?

Additionally, I am bored and thinking about giving the Optimus DE rom a try.  Anyone have any thoughts or experiences.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  15. To me, it looks like you must be far away from a tower and it doesn't look like you have any signal. At my school, I have no signal, and the battery dies a lot faster than normal.

You would think that but I am not far from the tower at all.  Now I don't believe any of the towers where I am are at full strength.  I can be outside a concrete open sided parking garage and be at -60 then step inside and have no usable signal.  Now with that said the area I was in during this time was either home, my office and/or driving.  There is no reason I should be seeing that kind of drain in those locations and it is not normal. I sure hope once NV equipment is in that signal strength is at least usable indoors and in locations currently unavailable.  That is the most important part of NV for my purpose.

  16. I have done nothing out of the ordinary today but my phone seems to be doing a lot more scanning for signal the last few days and my battery had taken a huge hit.

Initially battery was great on Spark update. Anyone else seeing this. Could network updates be causing the issue?

  17. I was just poking fun before AJ got to you. I don't think you had a stupid question at all. Simply put, the new tri-band phones only have one path so they can only see one signal or band at a given time. Now it can scan for other bands very quickly, without the user noticing any disruption, but it will not connect to two bands simultaneously.

Got ya. Thank you for clarifying. So I wonder if theoretically you were on band 41 getting high speed down but nothing up due to a low signal if it could switch you over to a different band for the upload and then switch back. Would that even be possible or would it break the path of data?

Didn't mean to disturb AJ. Hopefully he will spare me this time, long day and I am not exactly making sense.

  18. The days of SvDo are gone. Soon there will be VoLTE so you'll likely not see being on LTE/1X at the same time anymore, because they run on separate paths.

I don't think I posed the question correctly. I know you cannot do call and data together. I was trying to compare how for example on idle my phone can see signal for say Verizon 1x and Sprint evdo data and quickly swap connection between the 2. Bad comparison.

What I don't understand and flame as you will if this is a stupid question is why at some point the phone cannot download on band 41 and on a weak signal switch over to band 25 to upload and swap back and forth that way.

  19. Actually this speed test was run the other day on a band 41 site that produced no Internet for a month or more. Sorry tapa would not let me edit the above post.

On another note I took these pictures on Richmond Street right off RT. 2 in Painesville. I was not connecting to this tower at all and just south of it is a tower with a strong signal in all directions but North. Can anyone tell what is on this tower and what equipment is in the cabinets. Best pics I could get. It was 0 degrees out. I can go back if needed.

  20. Will it be possible one day on this phone to connect to more than 1 LTE band at the same time? Like you can connect to 1x800 and evdo.

  21. I am definitely seeing better battery life on Zva which I have noticed through usage and gsam. Regardless of of much scanning the modem is doing. Has anyone else noticed this. I have not really done anything to optimize battery and I am running 2 exchange accounts plus Google, Facebook, tapatalk ect. I must also say this phone has the best calendar exchange support of any android I have ever used. It does sub calendars. No more need to sync via 3rd party.

If when we get stock kitkat they take the time to optimize battery life before release I am extremely excited to see what kind of performance we get.
