  1. Might be hearsay, but a friend who is familiar with the tower upgrades in the area says word is Duluth LTE will be live by the first of the year.  Will be welcome since it seems to be lighting up all around us (Cloquet, Hinckley, Superior) but the brief flickers of LTE we've seen in Duluth seemed to have petered out.

  2. LTE popped up along that stretch back in March and has been growing ever since.  LTE in: Rush City, Pine City, Hinckley, Sandstone, Cloquet, Proctor and Duluth, just to name a few cities along that stretch. I have also made calls over 800 mhz along this stretch.

Not all that much going on in Duluth as far as I can tell.  LTE signals seem to have improved in range somewhat in Superior but in Duluth I'm getting LTE only sporadically downtown and not at all in Lakeside.

  3. LTE was live in downtown Duluth today... Nice strong signal near St. Mary's hospital and along 4th Street back towards Lake Avenue. Just heard about the tower in Proctor going live this morning so was a pleasant surprise to see downtown as well.

  4. This might not be news to anyone..but I was down in Rochester this week and got some good LTE signals around the US 52/41st Ave NW areas. I have an Evo 4G LTE so most times I've gone thru an area with some LTE coverage (Burnsville, Rockford IL, Owatonna) my phone's picked up the 4G and then reverts back to 3G when there's an even slight drop in reception. I held the 4G signal driving all thru this area and even inside the Applebee's on the frontage road. area of good signal wasn't very big (didn't make it to my mom's house nearthe Hy-Vee on 37th street), but where I could puck it up my phone seemed willing to stick wih it. Speeds were in the 4000-8000 range.

Also got some solid reception in the Hugo area...my phone hung on to the 4G signal tbru several miles of residential streets and main roads witb speeds between 8000 and 10000. Think I may have even contributed some new Sensorly blips.

I was very excited to try out my phone in some areas with a strong enough signal for my phone to lock on and stay on 4g for a while. Looking forward to some LTE love coming my way in Duluth!!

  5. Duluth is on the list of cities slated to get 4G in the coming months (see the latest wall post on s4gru) but I'm not aware of any specific network vision upgrades just yet in the Duluth area.

However, I have noticed (via sensorly app) that eHRPD has been enabled on quite a few towers including towers in the Woodland/Hunter's Park neighborhood, downtown, and near the mall. I have also noticed big change in the 3G speeds downtown, I have been pulling 1.5 - 2 Mbps during speed tests; although that could just be due to some non-network vision upgrades that have occurred (see network.sprint.com). As soon as I notice any LTE signals popping up I plan on posting.

Work is under way in Duluth. I just haven't received a site list yet.

Thanks Robert and frozen_coder! I noticed the switch to eHRPD several months ago, and it seems to be active all over Duluth and down I-35 to the Cities. Have noticed some improvement in 3G speed over in Lakeside but speeds downtown are still atrocious. Hopefully we'll have some 4g goodness soon!
