  1. Logan, at 1400 north and about 1000 west

If we are talking the tower out in the farm west of logan, it should have new equipment on it, however backhaul for LTE would probably be more difficult.

Almost all towers in utah have new equipment installed but it may take a year or more for backhaul to reach some of them.

There is a tower a couple "blocks" closer to town that does have backhaul, but if my records are correct, it's a t-mobile and cricket tower.

  2. It's great to see LTE here in East Layton.  It appears progress is being made.  :)   However, the intital test results are disappointing.  I was actually getting slightly better download speeds with the 3G.  Uploads speeds are better with the LTE.   The latest download test with LTE was 0.61 mbps.  Upload was around 2.5 mbps.  I tested it several times and it's always pretty close to that.   I am hoping things improve dramatically over the next couple of months.  Is that a realistic expectation or am I stuck with the under 1 mbps speed?  I would really like to be at 4 mbps download at minimum.

I see a lot of online videos of Sprint LTE tests and comparing them to other providers.  One I just viewed showed the Spint LTE download speed at around 28 mbps and 13 mbps upload (Seattle area).   I'm rather mystified that I'm only getting 0.61 download.  All I can figure is that they must be still upgrading and tweaking things here in the Utah area.

My Sprint 2 year commitment is up in six months.  My last 18 months have not been good at all (just to be honest).  I hope Sprint can come through because I would rather not bounce around with cell phone providers.   What are your observations about the quality of the upgrades?  Will they keep improving?

    Thanks,

    Rick

Would you mind posting the nearest cross street to your location?  East layton is not necessarily a beacon of high density housing or having a lot of the other "user burden" dynamics that would drive LTE speeds to the sub 1mbit, even if there was only one tower live.  T-mobile in Davis county has the same 5x5 LTE spectrum allotment and seeing speeds under the teens is rare.  Even verizon and ATT with their poor LTE cell tower density maintain at least 5mbit and usually ~20 for ATT and ~10 for VZW in Davis county.

  3.

    ok there ya go....my reasons....

and with that I will be done ranting....

with the exception of something like this...and its more of a question then rant....

has anyone in Ogden called on that 4th street tower???

cuz what is this???    strong sig, yet says no data

Ranting?  I just want to know if you cornered the poor tower crew upgrading a tower at Nichols field in fruit heights :-)  Since you seem to stumble on pretty much every upgrade going on in davis county :-)

  4. I have just received an Airave from Sprint. If you are getting bad reception (For what ever reason) Sprint has a dedicated number to get a hold of the airave team (Seriously, dont call the customer care, no one ever told them the airave exists)

On a side note, I had a dream that Sprint bought T-Mobile and I had LTE in Ogden.. It was wonderful, then I woke up.

Speaking of T-Mobile, it appears that new tower in that area servicing magna is....... a T-Mobile tower.  Funny stuff.  You know, if they are just going to end up under sprints wing, maybe switching for 10x10 LTE wouldn't be a bad thing.

  5. One of the houses that back Lakeridge Elementary

I used to live out in that area (spent a lot of time at that reams) and it was terrible for cell reception, from all the carriers really.  I noticed while driving through a few months ago that a cell site went up at the storage units near the corner of 35th and 7200.  I take it from your experience that it's not a Sprint tower.  I am hesitant to think it's a vzw or att since they rarely improve reception (cell density), but I will take a look at my info and see who's tower that is.  If it is vzw or cricket you should have good roaming signal.

  6. I was at my in laws in Magna and had 4G...sort of.. 800 was nice for phone calls though, LTE was so spotty there the speed was horrible. But that's their house, they live in a dead zone.

Ogden gangs? The towers aren't even close to "bad" areas. I did see Century working on something for 2 weeks in early December on 24th street so maybe they are "preparing" either way the wait is getting nuts

Just out of curiosity, where in magna are they located? (I don't need an exact address)

  7. I know this is not a site for voicing issues with Sprint but I'm just curious if anyone knows if our poor service is actually related to the tower upgrades(per the sprint employee) or if it's something else.  I dont mind holding on a little longer and waiting this out but I just want an explanation and maybe a timeline as to when this will correct itself.

If they are actually doing cell tower upgrades for 4g that's cool, but if the employee is feeding me a line because he has no idea what's going on and this doesn't clear up soon we'll have to switch carriers.

There's what, about a half dozen towers between that sprint store and the one you probably hit at the walmart?  It's very highly unlikely that a sprint store employee would be privy to any information about what you are experiencing.  There is and will be ongoing updates and tweaks to various towers and services over the next year or two, but the primary push in your area is done.

I dont think I could pay a bill every month having service like you (and to be honest, many on the forum) encounter.  It's one thing to show up at a cousins house for a family party that you go to once every two years and find crappy/no service, because every carrier in every market has areas like that. And I think it's foolish to "switch to verizon" for those rare times. However, It's another to have it be problematic between your home/church/school on a fairly consistent basis.

  8. No one here has an exact date. Samsung has stepped up its game in the past 2 weeks alone. You will be seeing LTE updates soon but idea when. Many factors go into place .

I do, but I opted not to be specific, for various reasons, one of which there are no guarantees, but I will say this, Orem/Provo should see LTE in many places this week.  Most of the sites that are planned on going live in this cluster lighting in Utah county will do so before Christmas.

After that we get ready for Saint George :-)

  9. It doesn't make sense to me why they are doing it this way.

Well i'm not promising that one of your towers wont get LTE shortly.  After all if one of your towers was planned on this cluster but one of the RRU's malfunctioned on your tower when they went live, they may get it replaced next week and still light it. (this is just an example off the top of my head and may or may not even be reasonable)  I'm not saying you'll see no additional LTE towers light in salt lake county, only that they have brought online in clusters the ones they planned on at this time and now they are moving to Utah county.

Also none of the carriers have upgraded *all* of their towers to LTE in launched markets (don't believe the verizon fans who claim otherwise).  It would be foolish to assume 100% of their towers would go live within a short period of time.  Most of the other carriers have done half to 80% and then turned up the LTE volume (so to speak) on those sites higher than they have it on their legacy airlink (1X/EVDO/HSPA/EDGE).

  10. NV testing is happening this morning in Saratoga highland and lehi. I've got 1X800 hits from all those locations so far! Sensorly boys and girls!! Who will find lte first in north part of utah county!

I told you utah county was coming.  I dont know if you'll see LTE till next week, but it's time for the utah county people.

  11. well damnit...nothing in that map farther north then bountiful....(shut up dmplus)

ok i might have to go floorguy that acceptance guy...

shoulda grabbed him by his ankles and shook him over that tunnel till he told me he would do davis/weber county :ninja:  :ninja:

I'm not a sponsor, I don't really know what "acceptance" is all about (is that where towers go to feel good about themselves? ), I only know the network engineering plans for cluster deployment.  :-)

  12. Well once sprint upgrades the west Jordan area (which I think will be soon) it will be great to be able to use our phones without having to check data usage every other day :)

December 4th was the official day the cluster that included the West Jordan area was lit.  While stragglers are allowed and may come online. All sites that will be lit for the salt lake county rollout effort should be lit by mid week.

If your area/tower doesn't come up soon, you may be waiting a while because their focus will be shifting to Utah County.

  13. Has any new towers been added for NV in Utah or have they just been overhauls? I live in an area of Pleasant Grove that is against the mountain and voice coverage gets sketchy, let alone data.

There is a newer-ish tower at the top of 200 S just before you go in the canyon designed to hit most of the area against the mountain.  I'm not sure who's it is.  I'll do a check.
