  1. Sprint is now very usable compared to before. In many areas I get a basic layer of LTE from all three bands (typically band 26/41. Almost never on 25). It may not be the fastest or the most reliable but at least I can do stuff.

There's still random dead spots for lte in many places though that is very annoying since EVDO is more often than not extremely congested. Toggling airplane mode constantly to get a lte connection has become 2nd nature.

Hoping the dead zones get fixed by band 26 being "optimized" (it hasn't yet. They fired it up in nov/Dec) but meh. Indoors is iffy because of that.

In the immediate future we have the old Clearwire network which is going to be decommissioned and converted to sprint sites. I estimate about 200 new macro sites can be done. The first two conversion was applied for permits in July so I'm hoping it'll be a quick turn around for more capacity and coverage.

Tldr: very usable now compared to before but lots of inconsistency as typical of sprint. Ymmv depending on area

If it helps, I haven't left Sacramento during this bill cycle (starts on the 3rd) and my data usage shows. 3g: 0.2203gb 4g: 6.7151gb. my phone is on lte almost all the time. Service has dramatically improved over the past year.

I don't like the sound of a patchy local network, I might get a work phone in the next year or two- they use Sprint. I'll wait until then to try it out.

    Thanks for the info folks.

  2. Hey guys, so how did it all turn out in Sacramento?

My contract with Verizon ends in roughly a half year, wondering if it's worth it to come back at that time?

Verizon is expensive, especially considering that they don't have unlimited data. Other than that, the service has been awesome. Except for a couple weird places I went to along the coast, I always have had signal and data. Other than that, in Sacramento my phone service has been solid.

Has sprint reached this level of service in Sacramento?

  3. I got my iphone two weeks ago and tallied up 6.1GB in data usage. I have an unlimited data plan. Is there a threshold on the Sprint network where they may begin throttling my speeds?

Perhaps I should take a break from doing speed tests all over town. I used the XFINITY TV Go app to watch two tv episodes and some live news channels. I can't believe I sucked up all this data in about two hours today. Okay, back to Ancient Aliens marathon on the Spark network.

    Unlimited baby!

I think that Sprint will implement the throttle, especially after people realize that they aren't stuck on the older unusable 3G.

  4. I have a question for you kind folks: My current plan is to wait until the Note 4 to becomes available in October before I switch back to sprint. Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not I should come back to sprint this upcoming month (say... Oct 17th after the Note 4 releases) or wait a few more months? I'm speaking in regard to LTE. I know it's spotty right now but on the Sensorly maps, it *seems* like overall LTE is hitting most of the Sacramento suburbs and covers the 80 and 50 corridors all the way to downtown Sac where I work.

  5. The location I go to is closer to the capitol building, but I will swing by that area for a quick speed check and signal check screen shot.

Can you check the garage at R & 15th? Or has that already been verified?

It looks like Sprint dropped their prices and is offering a buyout deal right now (even for single plans) so I might jump back over right away while the deal is still around.

  6. That's your call. I haven't had much of a problem when traveling unless I'm in a known spotty area (between Woodland and Red Bluff is off and on, but last time I drove through, it was consistent). Traveling south along 99 between Sacramento and San Diego last month was awesome coverage with the exception of the grapevine between Grapevine and Gorman. Other than that, it was great.

Earlier this year when I still had sprint, I drove up to Eureka and passed through a couple sections with no service. I am guessing that I experienced no data service for about a total of 1 1/2 hours out of the 5(ish) hour drive. Was bummed out but there are a lot of hills and trees around that probably don't help much. Not sure about the south bound drive, never tried to stream music or used a service that required constant data usage while driving south. I would assume that it would be better since the land is pretty flat.

I'll probably end up switching back anyway. As long as I can listen to spotify on my normal morning commute with no interruptions.

  7. I'm interested in knowing how good coverage will be while traveling (driving) long-ish distances.

For example, if I'm driving up I-5 or 99, I wonder how spotty the coverage will be as all the remaining Sprint covered areas get updated to 4G LTE.

As of right now, my current service, verizon, has me connected darn near everywhere I go. I'm trying to decide if the trade off for unlimited data is worth it for the loss in coverage.

    Thoughts?

  8. Don't get too excited just yet, pull off Greenback and back to the awesomeness of 3G, albeit a tinge better then it was last month.

I'm just excited for the future as long as they keep offering unlimited plans. I dropped sprint and went for verizon a while back so I'm well covered on 4G LTE until sprint gets its act together. I might actually just stick with verizon after recently seeing how thick their coverage is though. The difference is pretty major so sprint has to show not only some massive speed upgrades but coverage area upgrades as well. Unlimited nothing plans are worthless afterall.
