  1. I'm curious is this phone unlocked by default?

I've been torn over getting the Sprint HTC one or the unlocked developer edition.

I originally ordered one of each (one for me, one for the wife) but now I am thinking I would be better off getting two sprint versions. It would be a no-brainer if sprint's units came unlocked like Verizon...

    Choices choices...

anyone notice that costco.com seems to be the best place to order? They waive activation, which seems cool.

According to HTC Dev extraordinaire Koush, it's remarkably easy to unlock the One. His exact quote: "it behaves just like a Nexus device."

  2. I am really enjoying watching the progress on a day by day basis.

Looks like we have some digging today, and some work bieing done inside the base cabinets. Overall, it just looks like a busy site. Miscellaneous tools scattered everywhere.

Still waiting to see inside the crates...

Looks like they're making steady progress. Thanks for keeping us updated!

  3. No outwardly visible changes to the site yesterday.

Thanks for the info! I am looking forward to watching the transformation on a day by day basis. I am sure there will be moments that I don't know what's going on. Your knowledge and insight are greatly appreciated, and a great addition to the forums.

I am planning on doing a day by day update on this site. It is literally right next door. One of the the frequently asked questions on this forum is how long does a site take to upgrade. I know that this is just one site and doesn't represent the pace and methods used for every site, but at least there will be an example.

Should I break this off into it's own thread? Is anyone interested in following the progress?

    I would follow it.

  4. a big thanks from me too, I have 2 towers around me yet to go live with LTE and I needed a visual reference on what to look for on the tower to get an idea of progress.

I can't even count the number of times I've seen NV equipment pics on here, but all of those nodes looked the same to me - NV, pre-NV, ATT, VZW, so I couldn't tell what I had and what I didn't have. Good luck on LTE!

  5. Looks like you found some NV equipment there! Notice the rather large, rounded panel, with the RRUs mounted behind/beside it. Sure looks like Sprint NV equipment to me! Probably not finished up, but I would expect you will see improvements to the network soon, and LTE shortly after that.

Great to hear! Thanks for helping me out! I've seen plenty of other pics on here where people say that there's an NV tower, but I never knew what I was looking for, so I couldn't tell for myself. The network in my location (I'm on this tower most of the time) has gotten a LOT better recently. Generally more stable data and better speeds. Thanks again!

  6. Got some time to do some scouting today (finally) around Bloomington. I've attached some pictures of the tower. Can someone more knowledgeable than myself tell me which one of these are sprint's nodes? I've got pictures of the base in here too, as well as a screencap of the tower's location - I scouted the southern-most tower with a "2" on it. I think these are pre-NV pictures, as I didn't pick up any 4G when i was doing my scouting.

  7. There were a lot of people I spoke to here who said "I bet Bloomington is gonna see LTE service before Purdue". I even expected Bloomington to get some LTE love faster.

I actually would've been really surprised to see Bloomington get it before Lafayette. Combined, W-Laf and Laf have a higher population and is generally regarded as better off, economically. Therefore, I'd guess the sub count is higher. Oh well, I haven't got much longer to wait and the rollout diff will be at most a few months. Not a huge life problem. I'm just thrilled for those of you who get to use LTE daily!

  8. Very soon my friend, very soon. You've waited this long whats a couple more months?

Haha I know, I know. It's exciting to be in one of the earlier markets, but makes a good amount of sense, given the shafting that Indy got with the WiMax development. Robert has, in the past, given me an estimate of middle of next month for some Bloomington towers, so I won't have much longer to wait! How do you like the GS3 by the way? With LTE on the way so soon, the Evo's handoff issues are actually relevant to me, so I'm seriously thinking about picking up the GS3 at Sam's Club for Black Friday - it's only $0.96.

  9. Yea same here. I wasn't seeing anything new in Indy. I saw LTE was inching closer to Bloomington out of Indy for a few days and then it seemed to stop.

As a resident of Bloomington, this is aggravating. Every time I come home from college, I start to pick up the LTE in martinsville on the way up to Indy and don't ever lose it. But why not Bloomington!? #firstworldproblems.

  10. I went to IU from 2009-2011. When I first started there, there wasn't even 3G, it just stopped somewhere just south of Martinsville and basically didn't exist until Kentucky again. The explanation I received was that is came from Evansville instead of Indianapolis like it does now. So my freshman year sucked on 2G but the WiFi there is nearly flawless so it wasn't too bad. So the 3G was 1 year old when you got there. I was down in Btown just before school started this year and consistently pulled 1.5 to 2Mbps on campus, up to 10 on WiMax (That town has to be damn near officially covered.) Add in 50k plus additional bodies for those that go home in the summer and I'd say .5 is pretty damn good.

Oh, at the time I had no WiFi on my phone, Samsung Instinct... All those cool unlimited everything features I'd been thrilled about just 8 or so months earlier were worthless. It's such a first world problem when I hop on my laptop and pull 90+Mbps though.

I was shocked to discover that Btown had WiMax when I arrived on campus. Kind of a moot point now with an Evo LTE. Also, I was very very pleasantly surprised with the speeds here. I used to attend Purdue and the speeds at W-Laf when I was there were absolutely horrendous - as in couldn't stream pandora when walking to class bad. Speedtests consistently under 100 kbps and the like.

On a semi-related note, I'd like Robert to possibly explain something to me: On your coverage map from Western Kentucky, it showed a few sites in the southern Indiana region (read: bloomington), yet the Indy market shows those same sites. To quoth Jerry Seinfeld: What's the deal?!

  11. Fellow Hoosier here, but at IU - Bloomington. Speeds are pretty fantastic here and have been since I arrived mid-2011. Worst tests are approx. .5 Mbps. Tops out around 1.5. I should also share that the .5 Mbps happens with super weak signal. NV will be great, but these speeds that I'm seeing are fairly respectable. Enough for my needs, really. The ping times just need to get lower.

  12. Welcome to S4GRU! :welcome:

Yes, Huntsville/Madison/Decatur are in the Alabama market: http://s4gru.com/ind...et-map-alabama/

However, the Alabama market is not in the first two rounds of Network Vision.

    Robert

Also new here; any news on the Indianapolis market area? Also, who will be deploying for that market - Ericsson or Samsung? The vendor map that's been propogated around here isn't abundantly clear on that.
