  1. So what band(s) are in the Daytona area and how would I go about finding out that information? I know that service is at it's best when the track (Daytona International Speedway) is in sight. I'm assuming that's because of Sprint's sponsorship of the NASCAR Cup Series.

In Daytona, there is for sure at least b25 since it is a launched market. Depending on your phone, you can check with field test mode(dial *#3001#12345#*) on your iPhone or get signal check pro on your android and it will tell you what band you are currently connected too. Or become a premium sponsor and this information will be fully available to you.

  2. We have a 75,minute wait for the train in line... I'm roaming 1x and my wife has full signal... They have to have an agreement with them... Shame...

They do. Att has a tower on top of mummy and in the hogwarts castle. At work in toon lagoon is get 3 bars of b26 and my phone battery lasts twice as long as it did before I imagine because it isn't trying to find a better signal.

  3. Had b41 all the way from Alafaya down 408 to Kirkman. I think I lost it only once but it quickly rescanned and got it back again. Then I had b41 all the way to valencia west campus, in which I had b41 on campus. Not good reception inside, but nobody has good reception inside those buildings....

You go to west campus too?

And I can attest that b41 is very good on campus and metrowest in general, though there are a few spots where you'll fall back to 3G but should pick up b41 soon after.

  4. AT&T has a tower over in Harry Potter and over by Dr doom in IOA.

I can't know until tomorrow but I believe there is some network optimizations going on everywhere, signal was crap over in Altamonte and Disney this weekend as well, places I've not had issues with in a while.

And also on top of Mummy in universal studios.

  5. Caught this in the parking garage while at Universal. Jurassic Park sectionqe7aresu.jpg

I realize that the reason it's only really available (b41) in the parking garage is because the clearwire's site is on top of the hotel roof across the street. (Looked at the RRUs on the hotel and compared them to known and they looked similar) B25 would be from the hotel across from cabana bay( I've determined this through some tests) and it seems b26 is from far away like i4/turnpike.

  6. Holy s-#t. At Universal! 2 months ago I was embarrassed to be on Sprint here. Wowmy5ejyna.jpg

May I ask where exactly you were when you did this speed test? If you were actually INSIDE the park, I'm hugely impressed! I heard rumors a long time ago of sprint putting a site inside Diagon Alley but I doubt that was true.

  7. I'm home now, so to confirm Band 26 LTE is up, backhaul is already installed and I was just checking some stuff and 1x 800 will be ready for the launch of the Harry Potter expansion and band 25 and 41 LTE will be up within next 90 days.

I was beginning to think that they strategically planned to update all the towers around Universal around the same time Diagon Alley opened as it makes perfect sense. The opening will be huge and the amount of complaints of lack if service they would recieve as a result of no updated towers would be staggering. So hopefully come opening, the nearest towers have b25 and 26. That would be splendid.

  8. It was pretty awesome. There were few places where I couldn't get online. It was a superb experience.

And that was just 1 tower with LTE 800. Imagine if the other two towers near Universal had LTE band 25 and 26. I don't think there would be any, if at all very minimal dead zones. :)

  9. Spence, I've heard of people pick up faint band 41 there. But the signal is so fragile it isn't usually useful. Band 26 hasn't been active for long, (I'll ask my co worker tomorrow when she started getting it) and I've gotten some band 25 there but it was never enough to load anything without being kicked back to 3G. Enjoy being able to use your phone at IOA! The issues hopefully will be resolved soon. But it must make your battery happy. Lol

And after looking around, it seems that is coming from the tower by I-4 and the turnpike. Going with assumption that b26 carrier cards are installed after the site gets 3G, it would make sense in this case.

  10. Where at?

And hold out for the iPhone 6 ;). It'll be worth the wait if it has spark, which would be stupid if it didn't.

Well I work at the Popeyes ride in IOA. According to her, she has had it for a little while now. And I am holding out for the iPhone 6. Can't wait for it. :)

  11. So a co-worker of mine at IOA has an iPhone 5C and is thoroughly enjoying some band 26 at work. I just glanced at her phone and she had 4 bars of LTE inside our abmyssal break room. I'm jealous. Lol.

And I know it's band 26 because I have the iPhone 5 and I get no LTE there and iPhone 5 can only pick up band 25.

  12. Are you picking up b26 at all? I am wondering if they're launching it on all the sites they've been accepting recently before they do an even larger cluster launch.

    I have an iPhone 5, so I can't get b26 unfortunately. :/
  13. Coming from the sub 0.10 speeds that were normally there this is a relief! I am looking forward to going when diagon alley opens.

Yeah. It's gonna be fun! But I'd imagine the number of sheer people there opening day would render even NV unusable. Just look on Google for the opening of Harry Potter and you'll see what I mean. It's gonna be crazy. Lol that's why I hope they upgrade the other tower by kirkman and Vineland ASAP so that coverage is better overall there.

My current speed test at IOA. Data is actually usable. For once. Hope it only gets better from here on out.

Seems the tower nearest Isalnds of adventure is upgraded to at least NV 3G because I can actually use data at work now! Not super fast but fast enough that I can load IG and Facebook. Yay!! Finally starting to see better coverage at Universal! :)

  15. If it's any good indication, lately at work at Universal my iPhone has put itself into extended 3G mode more often than not. It, to my knowledge, as only ever done this once before, which was the few weeks they were working on the towers by my house. So could be a good sign.

And since I work at Blutos, I imagine the closest tower to me would be the one on the hotel rooftop across from cabana bay. If that's the case, I hope that this means LTE will soon be at universal. But only time will tell.

Also drove by there the other evening and got a good(as in better than before) 3G signal/speed from the tower by the turnpike and kirkman. The wiring up to the antennas looks new so it possibly may be updated?

  16. Now that I am back in my corner of the Arctic (5-8 inches of snow today where I live plus blizzard-like winds -- Oh, how I loved getting on that plane yesterday!), a FWIW from my 8-day sojourn in the land of Mickey and the Minions:

After good-to-excellent Sprint coverage in the Disney areas and the OC Convention Center during the week, 8 of us went to Universal on Saturday. 4 GS3's and 4 Satan phones (OK, they were iPhone 5c's --sorry if my prejudices sometimes overwhelm me), all fully charged at the beginning of the day. Sprint coverage virtually everywhere at/near Universal ranged from lousy to non-existent. Moreover, the GS3's spent their time vainly switching back and forth between mediocre 3G data and even worse 4G LTE as they hunted for coverage, with the result that all 4 GS3 batteries basically died well before the end of the day. The iPhones had slightly better connectivity and much better battery survival.

I live in an area with good Sprint coverage, and I travel all over the western US, and I have never seen the battery problem that the GS3's had at universal on Saturday. I wonder if Universal has some sort of arrangement with Big Red or The Dark Side (that would be Verizon and AT&T to the less spiteful) which prevents Sprint from placing cells in proximity to the Universal property.

I have not read through all 125 preceding pages of this thread, so if I am repeating what 78 other people have already observed, I apologize. But the situation certainly seemed unusual to me.

I work at universal so I know the pain. However, I also know that ATT has two sets of antennas in the park, one at Harry potter, the other on top of Mummy, which is why ATT gets such good coverage in the park. Not sure about Verizon, but rumor had it awhile back that Sprint may put some antennas somewhere in the new Harry potter expansion but I'm not sure as to the credibility of this rumor but if it's true, that's would fill the gap at universal big time.
