  1. Then you should actually consider doing so, if sprint cannot currently meet your needs. Since you have the EVO LTE, I assume you signed up for a contract. You should suspend your account and use another carrier until sprints start updating towers in your market. Remember a launch date means nothing as far as coverage it is simply a public announcement.

I'm going to wait it out until end of January, then move if I don't hear anything positive by then. The Nexus 4 is sold out till then anyway. I'm pretty fed up with Sprint's service at this point, which is saying a lot since I'm a 10+ year Sprint customer.

  2. Aloha! I can confirm at this time that Hawaii is not in the first two rounds of Network Vision/LTE deployment. Stay tuned to S4GRU.com for more updates about the Hawaii market in the future.

Any new updates on Hawaii or Honolulu? I notice we've been left out of the third round updates list. Is this list complete? Is there a fourth round?

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm getting really fed up with the poor Sprint service in Hawaii. Speeds have really degraded in recent months - I rarely get > 300kbps on my Evo LTE. I'm seriously considering moving to T-Mo on a Straight Talk month to month until Sprint actually launches here.

  3. I think in this case it is just market size. For the most part only Primary WiMax markets are getting NV/LTE in 2012. Secondary markets that already have WiMax have the lowest priority it seems. Places like Las Vegas, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver...and in your case, Hawaii.

That's disappointing to hear, but thanks for the insight. I was kind of hoping Hawaii or Honolulu would be sooner rather than later, since we were one of the first for Wimax under Clear, but I guess that was a completely different company and rollout strategy. Still would have been nice to get it sooner. I guess I'll be signing up for a clear contract-free hotspot to use for the infrequent occasions when I need 4G access. Might consider the new Sprint tri-fi too, since they now offer day/week/month to month plans with it.

  4. One other suggestion that would be easier I think than switching activations every time - have you considered a Clearwire hotspot? Clear sells them direct, no contract for $100, and the monthly is $35, no commitment. Another alternative to consider, since it may be easier to call Clear and turn on/off your plan for the month (and less chance for Sprint to screw up the activations when you switch back and forth).

I'm planning to do this for the occasional times/places where I already know there's good Wimax reception. I usually only use Wimax on my E4GT when I'm going to tether to my laptop.
