  1. If Detroit is officially launched this is a joke! .89mbs to 1.5mbs a second most of the time on 4g. Sometimes I HAVE HAD 8-9mbs. Occasionally I have had 12-19. And, even once when they put up the first tower in Plymouth 28mbs. Other carriers are getting 30-40.

Plus they still have a lot of holes were towers need up grade. Any one been to a well established Sprint 4g area? Is this what Chicago or Atlanta are like? Please tell me that this isn't what we have been waiting for.

  2. drove by a site in Canton that it looks like work began on. it is on Canton Center road by the post office on the electrical transmission lines. They were digging a trench from the telephone lines to the equipment at the base of the tower.

Also, 4g dead spots in the Middlebelt I96 area by my work were not there today. Did the wind blow just right or did anyone notice anything new in the area?

  3. Just mapped out Telegraph, Beach Daily, Inkster, 7 mile, and 6 mile in Redford.

Then 6 mile over in to Livonia. I think there is a new tower there. Mapped 6 mile, Levan, 5 mile, Merriman, and I96.

Then I took M14 out to Godferson and zig zag back roads to Canton. I had hits out there I did not have Sunday but could not locate the source. May be something in progress in the Plymouth Ann Arbor area?

Also, the Ridge Rd tower on the Canton Superior Township boarder seams stronger now.

  4. Does anyone know what's going on with the google play store while on LTE? I can never get it to download apps or update. Other than that I can browse apps and use my data however I want.

I have not experience trouble with the Play store on LTE. Many others have reported it in post though.

I can tell you I have had oddities in it downloading as of late on 3g and wifi. In fact I just was downloading some updates. Two went fast. Two were very very very slow.

  5.

In terms of signal strength during the day versus at night, solar radiation has a detrimental effect on other kinds of electromagnetic radiation. My understanding is that while the signal degradation is much more pronounced in different frequency bands (like how AM radio stations actually have to turn down their power output at night to stay within regulatory boundaries), the lack of solar radiation at night would allow a 1.9GHz signal to propagate an extra mile or two.

Perhaps on a boomer site with little downtilt. An urban/suburban site would be too low to the ground with its panels pointed toward the ground...so additional range would not be possible in those instances.

Thanks guys. I figured the sun played into it some. I just wasn't sure of what other factors did.

  6. Got and mapped out 4g last night in Canton again. For the most part it was steady and picked up on it's own. However, it would occastionaly drop for no apparent reason neededing a airplane mode toggle or a few. I can't seam to find an active tower in Canton, unfortunately. I assume it is from Plymouth, especially since I got the signal locked in so far in to Livonia last night.

The Canton area doesn't seam to get a 4g signal in the day. So do they tend to turn the power up after awhile breaking in the tower? Does the amount of people and bandwith available determine strength. Or, could it be a new tower having test done on it late at night? Just curious if anyone had any ideas.

  7. I drove around 23 and Gratiot today, Up I-94 until 26 mile and received a strong signal with 8mbs down. One cycle and my S3 picked it up.

I was using sensorly but it is only showing up as a dot on 26 mile and just west of Gratiot. Not sure what I did wrong. I am a first time user to sensorly.

It may not have uploaded the data right away, up dated in the server, or it may not be in the apps cache. There are settings in it that you might want to look at. The data ones are up load only when plugged in, only on wifi, and wake to report. They can help save your battery. But, could delay up loads. If you hit menu-> details it will show you how much there is to upload. There is also a button with a line and arrow pointing up at the top right. It will try to force an upload. Generaly in small chunks.

I think generally it will show up fairly fast. But, I think the app pulls from a cache on the phone and doesn't up date a lot. I find that once I know the data is up, if I zoom in a lot more than I normally do, it shows up. The zoom level I normally use takes a while to up date. Could try deleting the app cache. But, I just wait normally.

    Hope that helps

  8. I was out driving today. I didn't get any 4g in Canton. Plymouth was still showing and I mapped a bit more on the west side of it. Out in Ann Arbor I got 4g scattered about the South West side of town. Got a steady signal on Eisenhower and when North on State. The signal dropped around the arena. Nothing more. I went up to Liberty and over to Main and up to the freeway not finding anything. Sorry UofM students.
