  1. The definition of taking one for the team, ;-).
  2. Yea, I'm with you all... I've been driving thru downtown from the east side on 70 and have been having dropped calls like crazy including switching to roaming. I wasn't able to check any towers out because I was on my way to a meeting, but most of the towers on 70 just east of downtown had permits pulled in early January. It sure would be nice to see some 4G light up in the next couple months...
  3. It's hard to tell from that picture, but if you become a sponsor of this site you will have access to all Sprint sites and locations in order to confirm the closest tower to your location and addresses for each site. May be worth your while. Part of NV is to replace the RRU's, but typically they remove the panels after the installation of the new panels. Every site is different though, so you never know.
  4. You may be surprised, without physically looking at the site I'm just speculating but a permit was pulled for a tower in Sunbury as early as 2/21. From what we have heard from other markets, they typically start on the outside of a metro and work inwards. If you are a sponsor take a look at the Columbus, OH permit thread. We have multiple sites near Mt. Gilead that have been pulled already as well. It's certainly possible work is starting to take place. Let's all take a deep breath and understand that we are not "possibly in the process of NV builidout". We are in a currently being deployed NV market. Please understand that this could take six months or more before we start really seeing noticeable differences everywhere in our market but work is starting to begin. We have at least one site confirmed with work being done and at this point have over 80 permits pulled for our market. At this point it is just a matter of time. The intent of this thead and S4GRU.com is to keep all users informed of current and upcoming work. Let's make sure we take a positive approach towards this. If you are available, please find the nearest Sprint tower on the sponsor maps and find out if work is being done. This is really the only way we can confirm 100% or not. Otherwise, please make sure you call Sprint and obtain a ticket for your outage. Sprint can't fix what they don't know about. You'd think that others would call in, but that is not always the case... Unlimited Data FTW.
  5. Am I really the only one who tethers there phone quite a bit and receives phone calls? I guess the real inconvenience is that if I'm tethered to my laptop for work, I need to VPN and therefore a data disconnect results in a cycling of VPN for me. But, SVDO has been SUPER clutch on the HTC EVO 4G LTE. I don't know what I would do without it. (Still in a market that is applying for permits for LTE)...
  6. Touche my friend. I completely forgot about that.
  7. I was sitting at the Horseshoe parking lot on the NW side and was pulling over 1.5 Mbit down at 3 pm on a Tuesday just last week. I think it really depends on where you are for campus. Especially with it being so large.
  8. If you are a sponsor, check out the Columbus Permits section. If I'm correct in assuming which area you are talking about, it looks like there are quite a few towers (four or five) in a row that have been pulled for permits. I wouldn't be shocked to see them doing work there and that is why the service has gone down. From reports from other locations, it usually gets worse before it gets better. May want to check out some local Sprint sites and confirm there isn't any work done. In fact, one of the towers was the first permit pulled for the market that we have registered, . Hang in there.
  9. I couldn't agree more. I was on campus the other day and was consistently pulling 1.5 Mbit and was able to do just about anything while on a conference call in a parking lot. Sure makes my job more enjoyable, .
  10. You caught me... I knew I was going to get the school name wrong. I was at Hilliard Darby, not Davidson my mistake. The service at Darby was great. Made the meet much more enjoyable, can't wait until LTE so I can stream the higher quality video.
  11. Amen to this... I just was at Hillard Davidson all day for a gymnastics meet. I was able to get a consistent one meg bit down on my phone and tethered perfectly all day. Used spotify without any buffering problems and watched some big Ten basketball. It's amazing what only one meg can do. Just cannot wait for lte, ;-).
  12. Feel free to check out the sponsored section (Columbus, OH Permits) in which I've posted some new permits that are in fact pulled in Newark, OH. Earliest permit was pulled in early February. It's possible although unlikely that the work is already done.
  13. Thanks keelerman8042. Appreciate the help in mapping these. Can't wait until more start popping up and we start seeing completion dates moving from TBD.
  14. Just FYI, in the sticks of eastern Columbus in Pataskala we are now rocking ephrd. Had to have went live within the last couple weeks. Can't wait for NV!
  15. Unfortunately, I can confirm bad service on the north side (back at my work in Westerville) again. I'm bouncing off of 1X and 3G, with apparently missed multiple phone calls from my wife... This is getting frustrating especially the missing calls part that we are all now experiencing. I wish we this just meant NV upgrades, it's disheartening to think that this is just a random network issue. Thanks again for everyone's insight!
  16. Well, a minor update since the other day. My office now appears to have 3G back online and no more intermittent 1X signal. I didn't receive any phantom voicemails today either, however, it appeared to be a more quiet day than usual... I did run a couple speedtests to see if the 3G service was any better and although the ping was better than normal (160ms) the download was .4 Mbps and .2 Mbps on the best run. Per the standard around here . Even more jealous when a coworker brings in his shiny new iPhone 5 with AT&T LTE that was pulling 15 Mbps and 4 Mbps down with only a couple bars of service. LTE can't come soon enough.
  17. Consider yourself lucky. My work has the wifi encrypted to work approved devices (no Android... ). Also, don't move any farther east. I live in Pataskala and while service is great for the commute as soon as I get home I have to switch over to my airrave for bearable call quality. Can't wait for some NV upgrades.
  18. I work on the Northeast side of Columbus in Westerville and the service has been TERRIBLE the last two to three weeks. I've been losing 3g to 1X and losing data altogether from time to time. I've also noticed that I'm receiving voicemails without any missed calls. Initially when I called into Sprint when it started happening three weeks ago, they mentioned that a tower was down in my area and they were fixing it, should be all set in 3-5 days. I called back 5 days later to confirm that everything was up and running and they confirmed that it was. That day, of course, the service was back to it's normal 3-4 bars of 3G with about .2-.5 Mbits if I'm lucky. Today it was back to it's terrible little to no data all day. I mentioned this to another coworker who works more frequently on the North side of town around Powell area and when he called into Sprint they said that they are currently undergoing an upgrade on all the towers in Columbus due to a network upgrade. I told him that this was just not true because I had been following this site and we would definitely have heard about it first here. Long winded I know, but are the issues we are facing due to the upgrade of 3G services around the US that Sprint announced a little while back or are they in fact the very preliminary steps of NV? I'm sure they are just 3G service upgrades, but I'll take anything at this point. I had a taste of 4G in Chicago and simply can't wait until we get it here, fingers crossed . Thanks Robert for all of your insight and help. This site is great!
