  1. I see there is a report (1) of burn-in of the home button from the always on display. The interwebs are taking this and running with it, even if this 1 dutch report isn't even real... regardless I have to ask -- AOD is not new. Did the S7 ever have burn-in issues with its always on display? If S7 and other AMOLED phones didn't have issues, I don't know why people would worry so much about this one. I feel like some of these sites are just grabbing at straws to find problems when there really are none.
  2. I'm not sure if I read it on here or if it was the guys at the store when I bought my S8+, but someone was saying that fast wireless charging was actually faster than with the included charger for some odd reason.
  3. For those who have not yet pulled the trigger... Best Buy is going to start selling Unlocked versions starting May 9th. It's unclear if they will have them in stock or this is a preorder date. I'm thinking of returning my carrier locked version and get the unlocked version. The carrier locked version of the S8+ at Target was $849, but the unlocked version at Best Buy is going to be $825. Seems like a no-brainer to wait for unlocked.
  4. No... all fresh installs. Right now the most annoying thing is my face unlock isnt even attempting to do anything. Always have to enter a pin. It was working in the first few days.
  5. How do you boot to 'safe mode' ? ... to force a reboot (if you havent figured it out already), hold power and volume down for 7 seconds and it should reboot. Today my phone has been working good. I'm sure its an app issue or perhaps something that needs updated. I'm not concerned that its hardware.
  6. No... its typically freezing up a few seconds after turning the screen on and trying to interact with any number of apps.
  7. My freeze-up problem seems to be getting worse. I've tried uninstalling Facebook and some other potential problem apps. Had a couple errors about BadgeProvider and tried stopping that and clearing its cache, rebooting but that didn't seem to help. It won't let me disable it. I might have to do a wipe and start new if I can't figure it out.
  8. Another problem I'm noticing is 'Unknown Sources'... I keep turning it on, but it doesn't seem to ever save that setting. Every time I go back there its off again.
  9. I pre-ordered from Target, and am supposed to get a Gear VR for pre-ordering, but I have little doubt that I'm going to get that. When filling out the form at Samsung to claim it, it wants a picture of the receipt, but didn't say anything about capturing or sending the preorder email (even thought Target email says they will want both)...and the date on the sales receipt is after the time window for the Gear VR deal because you don't pay for it until you pick it up. I don't see how they could accept that. Screwed at every turn with this purchase. The only positive is how amazing the phone is.
  10. I have heard rumors of 4k screens for the last 3 years on phones I think. Granted we're probably much closer to that being a reality.
  11. Today I've been having a lot of freeze-up issues after unlocking the phone. Perhaps the cpu is spinning up after being dormant and it's having issues with that, or perhaps some sort of memory issue, but it will lock up for a solid 10-20 seconds, really frustrating. I'm waiting so long for it to accept touch input that I'm thinking the phone is going to reboot itself, but it doesn't and eventually starts responding. Also it seems like the phone's attempt at doing the face-unlock is hit or miss. The icon doesn't even suggest it's trying to do a face unlock most of the time, and I just have to enter my pin. I had thought that somehow got shut off and when I went in to check its setting it did the face unlock that time, so I dunno whats going on there.
  12. I finally got mine and have had it less than 24 hours, and I'm blown away. I've had probably 20 smart phones, switching between a lot of providers but mainly HTC & Samsung. To me -- first impression is this is a game changer. Its all about the execution of the product, the premium product, feel in the hand in both hardware and software. you really just have to use it to understand. The options in software and features provided make it such a perfectly rounded product that seems hard to beat by anyone else. An initial comment on coverage... I was in a casino in Wisconsin yesterday that I typically have 0 signal and can't transfer any data with my HTC 10 (and I think the same was true with my Galaxy S6)... with the S8+ the signal was enough that I was able to transfer data with very little frustration. It was still a poor signal, but usable. Before I would shut my phone off because it was so useless at that location, now I'm able to check my email after I lost all my money gambling. Also on my way home back in Minnesota, there is one dead spot that I always drop phone calls. I tried a call in that same area and had no problems with the new device. I'm more concerned with usable data coverage than I am with internet speeds. With that in mind, would I benefit from prioritizing my bands B25, B26, B41 instead of the opposite order which people seem to prefer for faster speeds?
  13. I modified the OP with some links & information that we've gathered up to this point. My original post was just a general question and the thread kind of ended up the primary S8/S8+ thread, so I've modified the OP to reflect some more general information about the devices.
  14. Stupid me... I have dual SIMs on the mind.
  15. How do you know about all 3 carriers? Did it come carrier unlocked?
  16. 13 pounds? I knew it was big, but damn.
  17. They say geniuses pick green... I pick black. :-(
  18. I Re-Dug into this --- and I guess we already knew this, but Samsung looks like they are issuing a Dual-Sim version, but again UK & US are likely to miss out. The model number will be SM-955FD, which means it's the International version, but with Dual-Sim. Looking back on the specs from the Dual Sim S7 & International S8, they both have the same specs as far as frequencies supported go, which suggests that the Dual-Sim S8 will be missing the 2G/3G frequencies for Sprint, and only support the 3 LTE bands. IE... using the International Dual-Sim S8 on Sprint is a no-go. Will have to use the Sprint S8, get it unlocked, and use a Dual-Sim adapter, or just swap sims out if you want 2 carriers.
  19. Has anyone seen if they are offering a dual-sim version?
  20. Does "software locked" mean it won't take a ATT SIM?
  21. Wow, thats amazing... I think it "should" be unlocked and work on all us carriers the way i understand the naming convention. Thanks for the info!
  22. ... And you pre-ordered from the sprint site?
  23. Woah! Wait a minute.... Did you pay full price or is it leased or subsidized?
  24. I can't find specs for this year's S8+, but the Sprint S7 Edge was 100% compatible with TMobile, if you could get it unlocked by Sprint (either out of contract or paid for it at full price). FYI Sprint Variant will end in a P, so model number will be SM-G955P . Look at this: http://www.droid-life.com/2017/03/08/unlocked-galaxy-s8-plus-s8-fcc-smg950-smg955/ The SM-G955U (U is important) is an Unlocked US Variant that will work on all US carrier frequencies, however this version didn't come out until June of last year, so there may be a delay for this to become available. I don't know if the one on B&H is the International Unlocked (F) or the US Unlocked (U) variant. They just say SM-G955 ... which isn't enough information. EDITED: Turns out all carriers have the same U version... SM-G955U. However, I think there is still a software lock on these, but the radios are all the same so they will work on all carriers once unlocked.
  25. I don't think the 'unlocked' version will fully support Sprint, and if it's not carrier branded probably won't get the updates pushed to the device either. Here are the frequency compatibility of the G955F version, which I think is the same one as what's on B&H: https://www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/LQJDT58/samsung-sm-g955f-galaxy-s8-plus-td-lte-samsung-dream-2/united-states It's missing the 2G & 3G frequencies for Sprint, so I think that means besides coverage where its only 3G, things like text messaging might not work.
