  1. I found out today I can't put a TNX sim in my Ipad......yet......some kind of staged rollout.....phones yes....tablets not yet.....makes no sense to me.
  2. My Iphone uses Developer betas of IOS...and I got 5G Standalone before anyone else did.....I can turn it on but I can't say for sure yet it's any better 5G...I reckon in cases where 4G would be flimsy but 5G strong it would be good...but on the whole for my experience...I can't tell any difference.
  3. Just google speed test and occasionally compare it with fast.com I don’t need exactitude i just want speed, all of it!
  4. I have new sim running balls to the wall....at least no throttling i can detect LTR with a two bar signal hits 20 down...upload is paltry 1.5 though as you would expect with soft signal.
  5. And I went and got me a TMO SIM card.....now phone says T-Mobile in the corner but where in the field test menu do I look to see for sure I’m on GSM? update....prl is 1! So phone is synced to TMO!
  6. I’ve got me an IPhone 12 and I am finding that 5G is robust when I can get it and I find that I get a signal in Big Island Virginia where I’ve never been able to get a sprint signal before so my phone might be able to get TMO 4g too but I am not sure....could also be Shentel put a tower up there recently but I dunno....all I can say is more signal is more better!
  7. I did not know how long it took to go from dev to public but i have the dev profile on this phone and public profile on my ipad, and of course i expect my phone will get the next update and there are a few minor glitches which i have submitted so hope to see them addressed...mostly app weirdness as I expect some apps will have to get some updates to work properly with ios 14+
  8. You can get the 14 developer or public beta profile right now... i dont think Apple is pushing it to 13 testers although i did somehow get pushed from 12 to 13 back when it began.
  9. I am on 14 beta....the morning after I posted the image, the darn thing started working...and I do find that I am on Sprint all the time except when I am definitely roaming...there are places along the James River where I have to be on US Cellular for that's all there is.....however I am getting wall to wall signal in Glasgow, which may be Tmo since I never had anything at there before....except a few seconds of actual Sprint as I pass over the Maury River and intercept the signal out of Buena Vista
  10. Sprint and tmo closely overlap everywhere i go here lately so if i run out of sprint there isn’t any tmo either....so if I can’t have a home signal I’ll be just as likely roaming on USCelluar or on some mysterious extended network oh and i found out that the field test menu is borked in this beta... it loads but displays nothing...oh well it’s early for ios 14, not even warm let alone fully baked
  11. Got carrier update 41.7.34 on my iPhone 11 don't know what it's about but I also have IOS 14 developer beta....yes, living dangerously! No way with IOS to determine which network I been getting but I assume TMO is available.
  12. I'd like to jailbreak...but alas, I am a beta tester so it would go right back to jail with every update which is sometimes days apart!
  13. Well, I know there's no Signal Check for IOS...but how I wish there was. That said...is there an IOS app that can tell a user what Signal Check ferrets out? None and I mean none of the apps I've tried can tell you what network you are roaming on. Maybe Apple prevents the hardware from divulging that info?
  14. I was in the Pikeville area and got native Sprint 3G, Moving toward Prestonsburg I got Extended LTE on what I believe was Appalachian Wireless and held that to north of Louisa.
  15. 4G seems to be down all over Roanoke land.....could be maybe Shentel are putting in some groovy new kit? I hope so. The hole I live in is not conducive to cellular service of any brand, but Sprint has arguably the best chance if Shentel can put the right gear in the nearest tower....like LTE800! So far only has been Band 25...some Band 26 would be boffo for inside reception. Band 41 a cherry on the top for all round performance.
  16. Since I have another rom (cyanogenmod) I cannot run ##UPDATE#, anyone got any ideas? I can do *#*#4634#*#* and pretty much everytime I update the software I have to do that. But I am getting a 4g signal but cannot pass any data in either direction, have to keep it on 3g which works....albeit slower than usual. This update to LTE service on Ntelos is the most ridiculously mishandled upgrade any phone provider has ever attempted.
  17. Spotty indeed, back up on 4g with dialing restored, but data speeds all over the map. When it can beat my DSL I put my phone on hot spot mode and rock on, but usually it just does match DSL. Granted I use Cynanogenmod nightlies which are in a persistent beta state, so I am never entirely sure who or what to blame.....
  18. 4g went completely off in Roanoke market last night. I can't even get it, unless I put my phone in LTE only mode, but then it won't even place calls....as soon as you dial the dialer app quits...certainly no data. Have to force my phone to stay in EV-DO mode just so I can take and make calls. Ntelos is such a poorly run company, I am suprised Shentel wanted it at any cost!
  19. Well, you know you roam when your phone cannot find a home signal, but if it signs onto the network and the roaming indicator is on, you should not be prompted for a collect call! Even if they want to charge extra they just automatically throw it on our bill. You could have been roaming on a system we have no agreement with, but it still would have automatcally put any extra charge directly on your bill....for if it can figure out who you belong to, it can figure out how to bill you too! But I don't think we can even get service on a non agreement network....my phone can look at GSM, but it can't find any networks domestically because Sprint doesn't have any roaming deals with any around here. And it will always prefer to roam on USCellular over Verizon in my area.....Verizon is it's last resort choice.
  20. Where Lumos provides the backhaul you can't get anything better than their DSL offerings on LTE....6 down 1 up....they are largely in fiber but I think they are trying to preserve bandwidth, reckoning we mobile users would suck up the bandwidth they give to their overcharged fiber TV and Internet service. And it is said to be awful spotty itself. We live in a backwater of connectivity if we can't get Comcrap or Cox in. My neighborhood is due to be absorbed into the Town limits, and then I will be able to choose either Comcrap OR Lumos fiber.....I will take the Comcrap deal....I've had their internet service before, it's decent, reliable and certainly faster than DSL. And since we have a local office, we can actually get answers!
  21. Welp, 4G popped back on in Roanoke Valley about 1530 hours.....really really really I will be so glad when Shentel is the sole maintainer of this tin cans and strings outfit called nTelos.
  22. The whole Ntelos neighborhood appears to continue as a work in progress. So far where I have seen 4g it has varied in speed, from less than landline DSL, to quite respectable but never as fast as native Sprint. Sometmes though, you get the 4g signal and NO data, sometimes the 4g equipment gets turned off and you get 3g only....the only good thing is that it maintains the back end and for 3g it's pretty good.
  23. Arrrgh....4g transmitter is off on local tower.....back to 3g here. (Troutville, va area.)
