You might not need to restore to stock.
I got stuck in the bootloop as well and started the firmware download intending to do a restore. I went into download mode, then powered off.
When I powered back on, I was back to recovery. I figured since I was going to restore anyway, might as well give the update a try again since I saw the following on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51533599&postcount=612
If you can get back to recovery, give it another try.

Hmm.. not sure what to make of that.
You are not connected to LTE at all. I don't know why it is displaying the Spark icon.
I've also never heard of 1x800 being labeled "Secondary 800."
My G2 seems to display "Not available" for all the fields when the connection is idle and the LTE icons are dim.
I don't recall it doing that before the spark update. They all populate once the connection is active.
-
It sounds like you're trying run the update using the phone...you need a pc to do this.
I should have clarified, but the instructions are for Windows. I know the adb sideload command works in Linux too if anyone is running that. I think you can skip the driver install though on Linux.
-
It appears this file is no longer available.
I just uploaded it now to Dev-Host.
Here's a link to the file: http://d-h.st/kF4

Some instructions for the folks without root and on stock recovery. You'll need to use Windows.
This assumes you have the Lg drivers installed and have adb working.
- Download the update file on your pc...thanks to TumTum101 at XDA: http://d-h.st/kF4
- Copy the file to the folder where adb is.
- Get into recovery by holding down power and volume down button.
- In recovery, choose the option on the phone that says apply update from adb.
- After that open up a command prompt in your folder where you have adb. Type in the following without quotes "adb sideload LS980ZV8_13-LS980ZVA_01_update.zip"
The file will be copied to the phone, then it will proceed with the update. I don't recall if the phone restarted on its own after that...if not select reboot to system and you should be good to go.

how? did you use twrp?
I used adb sideload. My phone is stock, so not rooted and stock recovery.
I think anyone with a custom recovery will either need to get back to stock recovery or wait for someone to make a flashable zip.
Interesting though, I had enabled and disabled bands 26 and 41 and the update didn't touch those settings...they were still disabled.
Question for those that didn't play with the settings, what are the stock priorities?
-
That's what I'm dying to know. That update had to do more than what we can do with an msl code. Also, does the walmart icon only show when on 41? Or does it always show when you're on lte.
It shows when on LTE. Only band 25 at my work, but now I have the Spark icon.
I just downloaded the update from XDA and installed it.
-
Has anyone try to manually update their phone yet to see if the Spark update is available?
No luck here.
Doesn't Google "flag" your phone for updates? So once you check and don't see an update, there's no point in trying multiple times that same day?
I seem to recall some Google employee mentioning that when explaining why trying to clear out Google framework, wasn't a good idea.
-
Is there an echo in here? That was mentioned last night, a few posts before yours.. but it is big news if someone can corroborate it.

Oops, totally missed that one.
Sorry about that!

Per a Sprint employee(supposedly) on XDA, update for Spark scheduled for next 1/24.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611075
Maybe an employee here can confirm.

I think the LTE at the Oxnard Transportation Center has been turned on today. I've been having a good signal at my office down the street.

It might be the site that's pretty close to there. It was 3G accepted around the last week in November.
If you get a chance, map it on Sensorly.

Seems that I'm locked out of PRL updates now and this is the very first time since getting the device that I have seen this message. I have updated PRL probably a hundred times and never seen it so maybe they figured out something is really wrong and at least stopped the ability to update until fixed. Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
I received that message too, but a reboot let me run the prl update.
-
I updated the PRL a few more times and it switched back and forth between 55017 and 60657.

-
It took a few tires, but here's a screenshot of 60657. I was on 55017 before updating.
Data works, but no LTE.
-
As an aside, I did have notification of an update when I woke up during my regular bout of insomnia tonight. Installed it already, so I guess the need to sideload has been postponed for now. Won't be able to get out and see what difference it makes until Thursday, but I still see my signal dropping from 5 bars to none, then back to 5 intermittent.
The spreadsheet says this area should be ok, but in an area I've previously mapped great LTE signal with my gs3, I can travel with my LG G2 and never hit LTE at all. Even sometimes cycling airplane doesn't give me anything but e-herpies.

It seems like CSFB can be enabled per site. The site local to my work had it disabled initially...a coworker was able to connect to LTE after it was accepted, but I wasn't able to connect until about a week or so after with the G2. The engineering screen would show it connected for about 5 seconds, then it would drop.
-
I tried everything to get power+ vol down to boot me into recovery so I could sideload it...Just wouldn't go. I downloaded the modem alone and the full update, planned on doing the full update though. Just doesn't want to cooperate with me.

What part didn't what didn't work, booting into recovery or running the update?
I used the one I linked, since my phone is still stock and it was the update that came from Sprint. I'm not sure if all the files posted at XDA are flashable through the stock recovery.
-
I haven't looked around much, xda is kinda confusing on the Sprint section for G2 --if I'm not mistaken they don't have a Sprint section for it there...But last time I was there I didn't see where anyone had posted the zv8 update. Maybe they'll organize it a little better as dev for Sprint variant of G2 ramps up.

Here's the update: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760973835
I had to use adb to sideload it.
-
Curious as to why my phone did an "Update" but still has the same revisions....
Good question...its unlikely that they would forget to change the version number, but who knows.
I wonder if that's still something that you can edit in the build.prop.
-
Interesting....apparently ZV8 will be the update.
- 1
-
I had read the other day, that there might be an update pushed out today...maybe it was on XDA?
The Sprint device page lists ZV8 as the software version.
-
No they didn't....the one site went live in Ventura before the ones in Santa Barbara and Isla Vista.
Nobody has mapped IV yet.

Yea I'm not sure quite how I was able to get back into recovery.
I saw the same message...multiple times. It was only after I got into download mode(to make sure I actually could), then powered off, then back on that recovery loaded properly.
I probably got lucky and it working after download mode, was a coincidence.
