  1. Hey friends. I know I've been scarce and I apologise. I've been more busy with PtP wireless again and not much mobile broadband.

There's been a massive push with LTE-A in my country of late. The availability maps are just lighting up.

With the above in mind, and my A1688 CAT6 iPhone 6S, is there any way to know *for sure* that I'm on an LTE-A connection?

It's hit or miss on the iPhone, and very glitchy, but in field test (dial *3001#12345#*), then click "serving cell info." This will show your PCC center frequency listed under E-ARFCN. Back up to the main screen and then click "connected mode intra-LTE measurement." If you see "E-ARFCN 1," this will indicate carrier aggregation, and your SCC will be listed under "subframe number."

  2. Hi everyone,

So here's the story. My work gives out iphones and there is an iPhone 5 who's someone icloud account is synced with but this person passed away so we can't ask them for the account. They already wiped the phone but they didn't sign out of the icloud account and when we try to activate it, it shows that persons email and no one can sign in with a different account. Does anyone know a know to disconnect this persons icloud account and perform a complete wipe?

    Thanks for any input.

    ~Jeff

Unfortunately, there is no way to delete an iCloud account without logging out. This is an activation security lock feature.

  3. I'm not sure you understand the absurdity of what you're thinking. so you want rootmetrics should have a report for every major attraction in every city? Michigan ave and downtown for chicago? the theme parks in orlando? times square and central park for new york? etc...

should we mark the states into counties and divides the cities into population density per square miles and test which carrier serves best too? What else?? hmmm

I'm just saying that with 24 indoor locations tested, the strip wasn't likely touched, save for a car ride down LVB.

  4. Damn, and without band 26. I haven't been there in a year, but when I was, my phone was a brick in most hotels on the strip. According to this report, they only tested in 24 indoor locations? Unless you live there, the only relevant part of town is the strip. I think rootmetrics should have a separate report for the strip.

  5. You still waiting it out on 3G?

Sorry for the delayed response, but to answer your question: no. I've moved my wife and I to the AT&T unlimited data plan.

As a truck driver, I need reliable data at all times, and this intermittent data problem was screwing me with gps, and emails from my company, and enough was enough.

I called sprint, and the best they could do was submit some kind of network trouble ticket that had a resolution time of 10-14 business days. That was unacceptable to me. I've been on AT&T for a week, haven't had a data drop yet, and haven't even seen "4G" displayed once--a truly rock solid network in terms of signal.

It's both sad and disappointing to have waited out sprint for years, let them build this monster network here, and then break it again. The phone calls and texts from family about this problem were getting annoying, and being the family "iPhone/Sprint-know-it-all," naturally, they bitched at me instead of Sprint.

Not having to worry about pocket 3G, and when my provider will drop a carrier bundle that will break phones is wonderful--something I haven't felt in years.

  6. Now's your chance to make your move! I remember you saying you won't consider at&t because they didn't offer enough data for your needs. It's a shame Sprint is still having these kinds of issues though, and seem to be clueless as to what's going on.

AT&T isnt all kittens and roses itself but I've found far less to bitch about than when I had Sprint.

I've been so happy with Sprint since I got the 6s in September. All my gripes were seemingly answered until a few weeks ago. My service has reverted to how Sprint was several years ago: intermittent data, calls not going through, and texts never showing up and failing to send (sms). My wife and a few family members have been asking me why it's so bad lately, so I know there's some kind of network problem that's not being fixed.

How is Att in Chicago? I just picked up an ATT sim for my car which has LTE built in, and the speeds are ok for traffic and loading google earth on my car's infosystem. But running it through the car's built in Wifi hotspot I have yet to see any speeds over 3mbs..

ATT is garbage during peak times in NYC.

I ran Cricket last year for a few months, and I was beyond impressed with signal strength. As a sprint user, I was expecting 3G every time my phone came out of my pocket, but that was simply never the case. Data was consistent, but bogged down in the city (I think it was St. Patrick's Day weekend, and the city was dying the river=tons of people). Cricket data is also ran through a proxy, so I never experienced the full speed of AT&T.

  7. I've been happy with Sprint for a long time, and a big supporter of what they're doing, but this offer is catching my eye. Between Sprint not fixing the data issues my family has been having, texts not sending/receiving, and calls not going through, I feel a switch is necessary. I have DirecTV, and would love to see if AT&T can bundle something up for me with tv and cell, and offer me uverse internet so I can ditch Comcast. I never though this would ever happen with the big 2. Competition is awesome.

  8. I would love to check, but I can't get this old T-Mobile sim to get a signal in my unlocked iPhone. It just says no service. I can't remember if this is normal, or if an old, deactivated sim would at least give you signal, but no service. I remember reading about people being able to run speed tests on old TMO sims.

  9. Anyone from the Chicago area seeing 20 MHz now? This may be specific to Lake County, IN. Noticed higher speeds the other day, then a friend sent me a screenshot showing 20 MHz and I see it too. They owned an extra 5 MHz band 4 license here in my county but it wasn't contiguous with the rest of it so they must've shuffled around with another carrier to get this to happen:

    Is it carrier aggregation?

  10. The no date is BS, but unless I'm not reading something right it was a software change to the infrastructure that caused it, and they have a software fix for the bug introduced they are gradually rolling out across the country. Did I not read something correctly?

If this is the case what a huge bug to be missed by Ericsson.

I forgot to mention that he said the new thing they're upgrading my local tower to is called "LTE+." I don't know what that means since r every tower over here has Sprint band 41 with 2 carriers--aggregated, and faster backhaul. Not sure what else they can be doing.

  11. I finally spoke to sprint support this afternoon, and as expected, the response was canned bullsh*t that makes zero sense. Something about a software update to the Chicago market with an unknown resolution date. According to the rep, they did this to Colorado, and now it's rolling through the Midwest. Take that how you want, but I think something is broken, and they can't figure it out because it's been going on for weeks. I guess I'll wait this one out on 3G.

  12. I think Vince was talking with someone. I got to him him credit for being the first one to track down what the issue was.

That said, I'm sure someone in the know has an idea of the problem. It was pretty wide spread and made streaming video or audio very tough.

I emailed Marci on Monday, and some senior VP of networking called me 15 minutes later. They're calling me once a day, and unfortunately, I'm missing the call because I've been training all week for a new job. I would suggest you all email Marci@Sprint.com. It's really getting annoying only having data for brief periods of time through the day, and I've resorted to just turning off LTE. What we need to do is see if it's a device issue, or a network issue. We need a confirmed Android report to make it a network problem, otherwise, it looks like Sprint may have broken us again with one of their fabulous carrier bundles or something.

Welcome to the broken field test of iOS 9. If it says unknown, then it's a glitch, and you need to exit out, and re-enter. When it looks cleaned up (pictured), then it's accurate.

  14. But, but, but live experiential streaming is here. Periscope uploads are the future!

Yeah, well, Millenials, you can stick that Periscope up your ass and call it a preventive colonoscopy.

If I don't Periscope myself walking into the gym, nobody will know I was there.

  15. I went from the 6+ to the 6s. I was able to get used to the larger size, but it was cumbersome. Even with large hands, you have to use the reach ability feature (double touch home button) for everything in the top third of the screen. The battery life and screen size are awesome, though. I hope the 7+ is the same size screen with trimmed down bezels, and squared/chamfered edges for grip.
