  1. Rootmetrics has been working fine for me on my iPhone and I’ve seen the Map Layer update.

Are you running speed tests and looking at the “Fastest Speed Found” Map Layer?

    Under Settings:

Do you have the “Baseline Data Experience” setting enabled as well as “Send data Points Using” set to “Any Network”?

Quite strange, but I just checked again and Rootmetrics processed all my data.

Rootmetrics is working as you say. I wonder why it took 1-2 weeks to process all my tests? Very nice to see the results on the map.

  2. What model phone do you have? US phones generally do not have two SIM slots. Most people just pick a Network and stay on it.

Some of the newer phones have eSim capability which allows the use of an electronic SIM and possibly two carriers. If your phone is android and you have a removable back cover you might be able to buy a dual Sim Adapter.

  3. A VPN will skew the results. You should not have a VPN on whole doing speed test mapping. VoLTE will not matter, they operate on different EUTRA sessions https://s4gru.com/entry/439-sprints-casting-call-of-voice-over-actors-an-in-depth-analysis-of-volte-calling-and-vowifi/ it shouldn't even be able to tell that you have VoLTE on. That being said, if you're on an active VoLTE call, then that may affect things. Recently, Sprint started preferring dropping to band 26 during tower handoffs while on a VoLTE call. So a call may start out on B41, but if you're moving, when it hands off to the next tower it often switches to B26. This improves VoLTE performance and quality, but will result in slower data speeds and showing B26 available instead of b25 or b41 in your mapping. Congestion on B26 has no effect at all on VoLTE calls, but will be reflected in speed tests performed while on the call

Interesting info about dropping to B26 before a handoff. I will give it a try with the VPN disabled.

Go into the App settings and make sure that the background “Baseline Data Collection” toggle is enabled and set to upload over any network. This updates the “Best Technology Found” Map Layer in the background as you travel.

You can also run speed tests continuously for the “Fastest Speed Found” Map Layer. This is under the speed test settings. I’m not sure how speeds tests are counted across the hexes. I believe that download and upload data results are treated separately, such that you can have a download result in one hex and an upload in another hex from a single test cycle, if you’re traveling. I’m not sure if downloads and uploads extend across hexes, such that a download result will count for multiple hexes.

I’ve seen hexes update with my speed tests within a couple hours. If a hex has no data points, I believe it takes a few speed tests to get results registered on the “Fastest Speed Found” Map Layer.

I believe these speed tests also apply to the “Best Technology Found” layer as well.

If you plan to run continuous speed tests in the App while traveling, you should do it while your device is plugged into a car charger or plugged into an external battery pack.

    Thanks!

    GMO upgrade progress

    • Central PA: 70% complete
    • West PA: 95% complete
    • Shentel Lancaster County: 74% complete

Most upgraded sites in central PA are hosting B41 LTE. In West PA and Shentel territory it looks as though B41 is limited to high density areas, while rural areas are limited to B25/26. Detailed information is available to premier members.

Back on Sprint after a 4 year absence and am happy to see Shentel taking over Lancaster County. My local store rep said there will be 26 new towers in Lancaster County by year end. Having Tri-band sites and VoLTE really make a difference.

  6. well the sprint rep that I'm buddies with says that ephrata is covered, can't speak on new holland, and the occasional times I went to ephrata I had LTE, and towards east earl I had b41 LTE

I guess I can't argue with the map. There are some towers that are not yet upgraded. But as you drive through you will pull in LTE but depending where you stop you will lose it again. It just needs to be a bit denser and available at Walmart. Plus there's a large swath south of Route 23 that has a void of towers and barely supports 3G. It is kept alive by periphery towers.

Truly there is no lack of 3G towers they are just not dense enough and need LTE. I think they would make a great candidate for SMR800.

  7. Lancaster is covered in LTE for the most part, the sprint rep that I talk to always tells me about the CA in the area and I also check things myself. b26 is all around some areas have b41 and plenty of b25, I rarely drop to 3g unless I'm really in the middle of no where.

I hope Ephrata and New Holland are not in the middle of nowhere. LTE out of here is more symbolic sort of like a thousand points of light / 333.

I fall back to 3G all the time out here. The Ephrata Walmart is a prime example of very poor service even in the parking lot.

  8. Folks are working on the tower by the Reading Airport near Route 222 and also along 222 by reamstown. What is really interesting is that they have a tall crane and a basket where the worker is hoisted up and down I have never seen that approach before. I have seen really tall man lift but never the crane and basket approach. The Reamstown tower I believe is AT&T. There are a lot of antennas on the one by reading airport so I'm not sure who the carrier is. Most likely multiple carriers.
