  1. I was really thinking about going with the Nexus 5

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have the Nexus 5, and have been overall very happy with it. Very good LTE reception, decent battery life, great looking screen, fast processor... Yeah, it's hard to beat for the price.

I used to have the Note III (and before that, Note II). I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would.

There are phones out there that do some things better, to be sure, but you'll be paying $700 instead of $350

  2. get 14 days to return a device

Honestly, I had considered this. But it just seems uncool to do that when I already know I'd be returning two of them.

It might end up costing you a lot of money to do so, just FYI.

    $35 restocking fee x 2 + $36 Activation Fee x 3 = $178!

Additionally, many stores will only let you exchange once within the 14-day return window. Returns count against the store in Sprint's eyes, so the salespeople also will not be happy with you!

  3. the odds of wanting a new phone at precisely 1 year is pretty low which makes it even worse.

Considering most phone manufacturers are on a ~1 year cycle for new devices, the demand is definitely there. Both Apple and Samsung release a new flagship once per year, and that covers a massive percentage of phone sales.

Corporate stores will not do this anymore, word came down that we can not spread customers framily ID to complete strangers even if they want to amd give permission. Apparently some stores had a huge system/scandal and its now treated as fraudulent activity and can get anyone doing it fired.

What is funny as this strategy was communicated to use from district/area management and suddenly it came down that it was not going to tolerated and would lead to disciplinary action.

I've also been told (third-party dealer) by upper management that this is considered fraudulent activity that can get us fired. We've had plenty of customers ask, and now we have to tell them all "no". Ah well.
  4. It's been two months since it was announced and crickets......and one of the two devices is eol'd. Come on Sprint. Let's go!!

It's only EOL for postpaid; it's still available for Sprint Prepaid.

On-topic, Sprint has said that more devices will be supported in the future. No other information has appeared.

WiFi calling is really available on Republic Wireless, a Sprint MVNO, on the Moto X now, and the Moto G very soon here.

  5. ...dissimilar site spacing requirements...

It's true. Around here, Nextel sites needed to be MUCH closer than Sprint sites. Just ask iPCS. *shakes fist*

As an aside, I met a fellow the other day who knew people who worked at iPCS, and considered it a point of pride. I raised an eyebrow.

On-topic, a good VoLTE solution will eventually negate a large number of these issues.

  6. Looking at the profiles, everything is okay except that Dad/hamster and Gor-don.

I would have preferred a twin separated at birth dog (Otasans' brother) or even a cat (although cats are harder to film) but a hamster that is always confined to a cage or bubble. Don't like it.

Also the goth college roommate Gor-don. not to sure about that character either.

Oh well it is what it is.

    TS

Except now they get to write all these puns based on his love of Zorbing.

Gor-don will be awkward and creepy for comedic effect. Expect him to have few lines and just kinda "be there" constantly.

  7. Oh, I am out there, sometimes way out there.

The SMR 900 MHz holdings vary from market to market.  But as a starting point, read this thread:

    http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/390-how-much-of-the-900-mhz-band-being-used/page-2\

See my diagram.  As I understand it, that represents the current maximum SMR 900 MHz spectrum Sprint holds in any given market.

    AJ

    Interesting read.

If BC10 includes the 900 MHz band (assuming it gets "untangled" and this sort of rebanding happens), does B26 also include 900 MHz? Or will it require a new LTE band and certification?

  8. Actually, does The Great Southern Company own any of this 900 MHz, blocking it down again for Sprint? Does Sprint own a 5x5 or 3x3 nationwide in this spectrum? I need holdings... and have no idea how to check databases myself.

    AJ? You out there?

  9. Anything's better than James Earl Jones yelling "what?" half a dozen times and then ending with SPRINT.

I like these quite a bit. They're quirky, they get people talking, they're memorable.

I'm bad at identifying accents, what is "papa's" supposed to be?

  10. Ill set the record straight, i did this today. We cant do it in our system, but a simple call into Sales Support with both account info and it would of been done in less than 5 minutes as long as both accounts were in good standing.

That rep was just stupid, lazy or ignorant. Sorry

To be fair, there is a policy in place to prevent "gifted" upgrades across different accounts at point-of-sale, for whatever reason. It's likely these reps were basing their knowledge on this policy. I've had National Sales Support tell me "no" multiple times when attempting to do this very thing, as easy and legitimate as it is.
  11. Essentially, financing your phone is no different than actually being locked into a contract - because you're still forced to pay for the rest of your device if you cancelled service with Sprint.

I'd say if it happens it'll likely happen just before the release of GS5/M8.

Absolutely correct. The difference is, if you bring your own device, pay yours off early, or simply run out the financing, your bill goes down (relatively), and nothing is tying you to Sprint save brand loyalty and a device investment. Very cheap devices on Craigslist, Swappa, hell even the Google Play Store are easy enough to come by that locking yourself in is a very conscious choice, and often a bad one.

With subsidies, you keep paying into that subsidy pool, no matter if you're month-to-month or not. If you're three years out of contract, you paid three years worth of subsidy fees.

Additionally, Sprint used to require folks to sign a two-year contract for a BYOD new-line scenario, which is insane. Framily does away with that.

To Sprint, it's better because they no longer have subsidies on the balance sheets - which was getting to be a difficult thing with the rising cost of devices. If an iPhone 5S costs 649.99 (which it does, or at least very close), you pay $199.99 for it, Sprint eats $450. If you're an Everything Data Share customer and your line costs $30, well, $450 / 20 months = $22.50/month. Your Unlimited service really only costs you $7.50/month! That's absolute madness. It is telling as to, at least partly, why Sprint has been having trouble making money.

Sprint also likes it because you no longer have people trying to weasel out of contracts due to changes in Administrative Fees, or overloading on Roaming Data to try and get kicked off for free, or any other number of ways you can try to (legitimately or no) nullify a Service Contract, but have no regard to an Installment Billing Agreement. How many multiples of $350-$450 did they eat each year from bad rules and people gaming the system? Again, madness.

Edit: Just to add - one thing a surprisingly large percentage of people I've spoken to really like about Framily/Easy Pay is, you can pay the device off at any time and just be done with it, but keep the service. I've been asked, in many different ways, "So, if I just get a chunk of cash, can I just pay it off? Because I'm getting my taxes back soon..."

Not to mention, the Unlimited Data package for Framily includes a provision similar to the old One Up program, where you can trade in a device after 12 monthly payments and get a new phone every year without a huge increase in TCO.

Basically, what I'm saying is, Framily + Easy Pay seems to offer customers more options, and people like that. For the most part. ED customers look at it with disdain because, commonly, it's more expensive per-line (for the above reasons that it's ridiculously cheap) and that they don't want to jump through Framily's hoops to get your bill down.

As for the topic at hand itself, I can see them pulling something like that. "The new Galaxy S5 on Sprint, only available on Sprint Easy Pay for $0 down and $29.17/month ($150 down and $22.91/month for ASL class customers)". If not for the GS5, they'll drop it for all phones at once.
