  1. Misinformation spread is getting out of hand..
  2. True, but whether you had the magic box or not you'd still be paying for internet. Just have your phone connected to wifi at home when its in reach.
  3. Well I found some more small cells in my surrounding area, whats exciting to see is two of them seem to be directional, not using the traditional omni-directional antenna i'm used to seeing. https://imgur.com/a/MBB11as
  4. not in urban areas, but for rural, yes it will scoop dial up and dsl customers right up, not to mention satellite internet customers
  5. This is one of a few mobilitie small cells I have found in the area. I'm wondering if it is sprint because there is no relay installed. Actually some that had the relay before has since been removed. It looks to be connected to a wire line network... The two underground communication hatches are on the sidewalk and the unnamed one in the landscaping, yards away from the site. As mentioned, one is unnamed and one says Comcast. Let me know what you guys think. Just as a disclaimer, this site wasn't here about two weeks ago. (Midtown Detroit) Also; Verizon is using a completely different vendor in SE Mich so I highly doubt this site is a verizon one. https://imgur.com/gallery/irfkNzk If I have time i'd like to create a map of all the sprint small cells provided by mobility in SE Mich... stay tuned as my time is limited.
  6. Okay so I managed to make it out to that other wireline mobilitie site today(or yesterday lol whatever haha) It was getting dark so my photos are not the best but here is what I have. (Btw I also included some of the development going on in this area that may have been reason Sprint decided to locate a small cell here. That and well, its pretty close to Ford Field, Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena.) Again, sorry for the poor lighting but this is definitely another small cell connected by wire-line as apposed to relay. The last few images are construction for a massive development from Bedrock, which is affiliated with Rocket Fiber.(Both part of quicken loans if that matters) They could be providing the backhaul but unfortunately due to lighting the only wire-line on the utility poles i could spot with a name was Comcast; that's not to say there were many other lines on the utility poles. It was just to dark to spot. Anyway; here it is: https://imgur.com/a/HTaHdmD Any thoughts?

  8. I don't have any Sprint lines as I am on at&t(off topic but dang no small cells and their speeds are awful lol cannot wait to jump ship lol), but from the looks of it i'm assuming it's Comcast as it was the only landline cabling on the utility pole. The one i'll post tomorrow i'm thinking is fed with an at&t fiber connection....or maybe Lightspeed? (never heard of them but apparently have a presence in Detroit.) I know Verizon small cells are fed by CenturyLink so it could be them as well. We also have a local Fiber network exclusive to Detroit Proper (Rocket Fiber owned by Quicken Loans) so that is also another possible candidate. Anyway; I will find out and post whatever I can tomorrow. Looks like I need to pick up a sprint line
  9. Tomorrow I will take pictures of another one about a mile away in a pretty desolate area of Detroit. However, a massive condominium complex is being built in this area so once completed it will be a pretty nice area. Will post pics of my other finding sometime tomorrow if I can get the chance. Stay tuned.
  10. That's what I figured. It's hard to say if the relay was there in the first place because two weeks ago this small cell wasn't even there. I'm wondering if they'd being Comcast...

  12. Honestly I think its because Trump doesn't like cnn
  13. I think with our current administration its more than likely this merger will be approved.
  14. Over in my neck of the woods it already seems like some of at&t's towers are at their weight limits. Some sites even have needed extra mounting underneath the rack to support all the rru's and panels....
  15. This could be huge.... or it could fail terribly. I'm staying optomistic
  16. All of those configurations in my Market seem to be Verizon
  17. Although I don't think it will be a major issue(crossing my fingers here) there is scientific evidence supporting the claim that higher frequencies emit much higher levels of radiation than lower bands. I hope the science is wrong on this one. Disclaimer: I am in no way a Nimby and and looking forward to what 5g has to offer. It's just something to think about.
  18. Okay, I was just curious because I have a cabin in northern Michigan where several iden sites are on the list to be converted to Sprint along a major highway (interstate 75 to be exact). If I can connect to one of these sites at the cabin that currently does not have service without these new additional sites, and a magic box can connect to them once they are finished being upgraded, I can finally ditch at&t. Edit: I would like to add that Verizon does not have coverage in this area.
  19. Well, I just made an exciting discovery. I picked up an iPhone 5s without an active service plan to test bands in my area and guess what I found?! Band 26 in Midtown Detroit. See for yourself! As expected, the site it connected to is only broadcasting a 3mhz channel. This is very exciting but unfortunatly I was standing right next to the site that has multiple B41 channels broadcasting(I'm aware this phone doesn't support band 41), however this site broadcasts a 10 mHz band 25 channel and possibly an additional 5 mhz channel. (I'm not sure the 5mhz could be coming from a different cell site). You would think that the site would place me on band 25 as priority considering I was about 100 feet away from the macro. Some network tuning needs to be done because there is no reason I should've connected to this band so close to the tower. Maybe its because its an iPhone 5s? I'm not sure. Either way its exciting to see this especially with my proximity to Canada. But if it forces everyone on this channel it will be completely unusable considering the population density of this area is 12,000 people per square mile....... Any thoughts on this?
  20. Is there any sort of additional gain antenna available for this magic box just out of curiosity? And if not how much stronger of a signal would this box be able to acquire from a normal, lets say iPhone just for testing purposes?
