  1. WiFi SMS on Android seems to be working fine for me: In fact, all of WiFi calling seems to have become more stable and reliable over the past few weeks.
  2. Don't waste your keystrokes arguing with him -- he feeds on it. Looking at his screenshot, it is possible that he was on WiFi, not even on LTE.
  3. How does one order this little gem? Sprint.com is blindingly obfuscatorial.
  4. Actually, "If anyone knows anyone . . ." is exactly the phrase I object to. It is not based on your personal experience, but upon you extrapolating your personal experience onto other people ("anyone"). I certainly respect your personal experience, and you have reported it abundantly in the past. Based on your experience, it seems that Sprint in northwest Indiana is lagging. However, not everyone who has had Sprint in Chicagoland has had the same negative results you have had. For example, I have observed a lot of territory on the west, northwest, and north suburbs, and in the City itself, and have had consistently good results, especially in the past year or so. So all that I am saying is that there are parts of the region which support your personal observations, and there are parts (probably many more) which don't. People in this region who want the absolute best phone and data coverage probably should not choose Sprint, but should consider Verizon -- and be prepared to pay a lot of money for their choice. I can't think of any good reason to pick AT&T or T-Mobile hereabouts. But I can certainly recommend Sprint.
  5. With all due respect, much of that post is BS. I personally have had Sprint in Chicagoland for over 15 years, and I would not hesitate to recommend it. I have a significant number of family and friends who feel the same.
  6. You're right, it is a Massachusetts STATE court. How can it possibly have jurisdiction in any other state?
  7. The posted articles and court order do not define the exact meaning of the "cities" which are affected. I'm sure that there are documents somewhere which do define this. My question: If the order states that "Chicago" cannot be turned off, does this mean the City of Chicago or the Sprint Chicago Market. I live in the Chicago Market, but I am over 30 miles from the nearest Chicago city limit, so is WiMax affected where I live? I could ask the same question for all 75 "cities" named. Added: I'm sure Sprint has very high-priced teams of lawyers asking this same question, and others even more aggressive. I expect that we will see them charge out of Overland Park with their legal guns blazing in the days ahead. There is too much future revenue involved for Sprint not to be aggressive.
  8. Has anyone else noticed that WiFi calling has become more reliable lately? On my GS5, I am getting virtually no unexpected disconnects, and when I leave home and return, WiFi calling reconnects almost instantly. This seems to have been happening for about the last week. (Of course, as soon as I post this, my WiFi calling will melt down completely . . . )
  9. Play Store, My Apps: Click on Signal Check, "Open" will change to "Update" Edit: You have to be a beta tester for this to work.
  10. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, the new SCP beta instantly crashes on my GS5. It sometimes appears to flash an error message, but too quickly to read. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edit: Strangely, the SCP icon in the status bar continues even after the screen blows up, and pulling down the status bar shows SCP detail, But the SCP screen simply won't stay alive.
  11. The minority stakeholders have clearly defined rights and protections. While Softbank effectively controls Sprint, they cannot take deliberate actions to destroy or damage the value of the minority's stock. At some point, they can offer to buy all the minority shares, but in the meantime, there are significant financial and regulatory hoops they must continually jump through to avoid such damage/destruction.
  12. Mine arrived 2 days after Sprint entered the order.
  13. Yes. It was free. No security deposit. You own it outright in 1 year. Mine was shipped within hours, and worked perfectly out of the box. The only gotcha is that you basically must order it from the right network group -- their phone number is buried in the WiFi Connect thread somewhere, I'm too lazy to search for it. Do not -- I repeat, DO NOT -- I repetitively repeat, ABSOLUTELY! DO! NOT! -- try to order one from Customer Support, as you will get shunted to someone overseas who doesn't have the vaguest clue what you are talking about or how to order it. (Edit: VVV Thanks, Tim!)
  14. With a TMo phone or a Sprint phone??
  15. First, there is no evidence that Sprint has ever throttled the "top 5%". There was an announcement a year or so ago that Sprint could throttle the largest data users at certain times and on certain sectors if they became congested, but no one has ever reported evidence that Sprint has actually done such throttling. Secondly, tethering is allowed on many non-unlimited plans at no added charge. For example, I am on Family Share, and any of my lines may tether as much as it wants up to the maximum shared data amount for the account (currently 40 GB). We are not heavy data users, but this has been useful to me when I travel on business. The logic of charging for tethering on unlimited accounts is obvious, however, as unlimited tethering would absolutely invite abuse.
  16. My daughter just got home from 12 days in the U K, and International WiFi calling worked well wherever she had a good WiFi signal. In fact on some calls, it sounded like she was right next door. If your experience is as good, you will be happy. (International Value Roaming also worked almost perfectly for data and text, but that's another thread.)
  17. Link requires sign-in. Google "Wall Street Journal SoftBank Sprint" for link to public view of article. Very interesting analysis, but not entirely encouraging.
  18. Issues? Sometimes. For instance, yesterday late afternoon, WiFi calling dropped and I couldn't get it to reconnect. Last night, I recycled it, and it started to work again, and continued through this morning. (In fact, I received a call early this morning while I was on domestic WiFi calling and my daughter was on international WiFi calling on her Sprint GS5 in London -- it was choppy at times, but overall quality was quite acceptable.) Then it dropped again, I recycled, and after a long delay, it reconnected. I have subsequently been in and out of my house, and WiFi calling has gracefully disconnected and reconnected each time. So it's not 100% stable, but when it does work, it is very satisfactory. My only gripe is that it isn't up and running all the time.
  19. My daughter just flew through Dublin to London, and she was able to send and receive texts on her GS5 on the first try in both places. Apparently her boyfriend's iPhone 5c also worked. One question: Is the $0.20 per minute only for calls to international numbers, or also to/from USA numbers?
  20. WiFi calling has been awful the last couple of days, random call disconnects, WiFi calling itself going off line, occasional bad connections. Then it will work flawlessly for an hour or two, and the whole cycle starts over. I wish Sprint would stabilize the damn thing!
