  1. So, I hope I don't get yelled at for repeating a question, I did search, review and read the posts with this topic, but I didn't find an agreed-upon best practice to use. If I missed it, I'm sorry. So. Here goes... Wireless& Networks - Mobile Networks - Network mode - It has been 'Global' but I have had no issues. If its not broke, should I fix (?) it to LTE??? Best setting Nexus 5 on Sprint not otherwise having issues:: Global or LTE?
  2. I've been using the N5 since Thursday and wanted to share some thoughts, and ask a question or two. 1) The screen is amazing, especially when side by side with my prior albeit 2 generation old Galaxy Nexus. The colors look fantastic, the resolution is obviously amazing. Great screen overall. 2) Battery life for me has been impressive. Perhaps I lower my expectations, but again, comparing this to the Gnex even WITH the humongous 3900mAh Mungen I am very happy. My real-world test is a 3 hour walk with Endomando, and the Audible app running and checking Touchdown Exchange emails. That is a stress test that the N5 passed. 3) Subjective 'form and feel'. I find the edges of the device to be 'sharp' and difficult for any one hand use.The SPIGEN helps/hurts in this regard. It helps on the power button, which without the case I find my thumb getting 'stuck' on as I move my hand on the device. However, with the case the side grip is worse, with the rubber being less 'sticky' the the Nexus. I will try the LG bumper "when available" (Side not, not understanding how Google/LG/FoXCOn whomever was able to hit the date for the device, but 10 days later can't sell the bumper yet). 4) Haptic - It may be a faulty-loose haptic motor, but I can hear it when it activates. Not a huge deal, but I'm going to compare the sound to a device at the Sprint store to see if mine needs to be RMA's. 5) Speed - Amazingly fast, from remote times, to device launches. 6) Google now -Voice recognition -> It works. Between the device speed and software upgrades, I find it to be the first time I actually am using the phrase "OK Google" for other than 'show and tell'. 7) GPS - I do not know the engineering on this (software/hardware, or both?), but my experience so far has been lightning-quick fixes, very high number of SATS seen, and DOP/HDOP/VDOP lower (better) INSIDE than on the Gnex outside: (attached!) 8) camera, video and OIS : So, this may just be the nature of optical stabilization, but when shooting video in a moving vehicle, everything looks liquidy as the OIS tries to compensation for the road vibration. I posted a video of this, and it reminds me of the special effects in 'inception'! (Sorry for the background music, Pandora was having a ragtime moment). https://plus.google.com/100408552061631615863/posts/6HnzUSKzcC2 Summary of the device: Overall, I am one very happy camper! Two questions: 1) Wireless& Networks - Mobile Networks - Network mode - It has been 'Global' but I have had no issues. If its not broke, should I fix (?) it to LTE??? 2) On the Gnex, when on 4g LTE, I was able to use data and voice. On the N5, even when it indicates "LTE" all data stops when I am using voice. Any ideas?
  3. FWIW, Received my Nexus 5, and my SPIGEN Google Nexus 5 Case ULTRA HYBRID, and ..... and.... and ... Well, its pretty... Ordered my SIM. ETA from Sprint was 11/12. If anyone hears of a Sprint retail in North Texas with any SIMS in stock, you will be blessed with super karma if you let me know! Thanks!
  4. (Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, didn't see one for data devices) Couple of questions on this one: How do you 'really' perform a master reset? The sprint instructions here walk you through pressing the reset button and confirming with the power button, This does NOT clear the device SSID or administrator password. On the device webpage, there is an option to reset to factory, but it requires an SPC code. Any ideas? Using External Antennae other than the cradle. I'm looking for an alternative to the Sierra Wireless Tri-Fi Hotspot Desktop Cradle for an external antennae, I dont really need the ability to charge, and would like the ability to extend the antennae a couple of feet from the device. Can anyone advise of the connector type I'd need (its not in the device specs in the manual) and possibly recommend an antennae pair? I'm focused on improving 4G LTE signals. Thanks!
  5. Has anyone used Android Signal Info by Coding Creation (http://rootzwiki.com...id-signal-info/) It 'seems' to show RSRP/ RSSI RSRQ SNR for LTE. As a bonus, the dev has a neat graphic that helped me get my head around a couple of these terms:
  6. *FacePalm* Sorry guys, I didn't take that into consideration. When I go back to the schedule map, those referenced towers are NOT on the upgrade list, so it appears I posted a bunch of spurious results vis-a-vie LTE, So I don't mess that up again, can you clarify one point in this: So if Netmapper shows a BSID and "LTE" as a connection type, that LTE may be hanging off a different tower. I don't think I've ever seen anything showing me more that one BSID at one time, and logically, I can be connecting to more than one at a time. Does netmapper just pick one of my concurrent connections, maybe its the one with LTE, maybe its not? Or Does that mean towers sending me that LTE may not be sending me any (1xRtt??) signal that Android telephony API can read?
  7. I have at least two towers in Plano, TX that may be ready to move from the Ericsson OEM Schedule to live: DA03XC096 and DA13XC615 I used netmapper to triangulate around the BaseID's which are all sequential, and interesting, in this area are all in the 10000 range , with BID's in the 9000 range just on 3g. Example: DA13XC615 BASE ID's 10305 10306 10307 DA03XC096 BASE ID's 10369 10370 10371 Best Speedtest for the night was off of DA03XC096 DL:34201/UL:9858 For what its worth below are the speedtests for each tower, and I'm attaching my google earth which I mashed up the Tower location , netmapper and speedtest results. Notice as indicated in this thread, the netmapper 'squawk's' of each radio are all "Incorrect", but triangulate almost perfectly to the actual tower location. Yellow pins are the speedtests I did. 8. Regarding: Looking at this posting on xda, am I correct that 24006 (what I have) is the same as 25006? Just that my phone is from a business account?
  9. OK Gotcha, in those terms I may have an issue as my gnex behaves in the manner which you describe the evo, i.e. dropping the signal.
  10. That hits my feeling right on the head! I'm driving around doing speedtests, seeing bandwidth drops thinking to myself that this performance dropoff is as bad as wimax in terms of signal strength to distance! I may be visiting the store tomorrow!
  11. Oh God Oh God Oh God! Now I am thinking I went wrong moving to the Gnex! I moved from my beloved NS4g to the Gnex as I had no WIMAX in my location within the North Texas market, and as I posted here I am having signal issues, insofar as my experience is not lining up to the map. But, I LOVE my unlocked toroplus with stock jb! I got the phone 2 weeks ago, and now am thinking I should switch it with the gs3.... Thoughts???????????/
  12. I'm in Plano, TX, , around 33.0492,-96.759. No LTE in my part of town. I am surprised a bit, as the LTE map in my part of DFW is full on 'red'. I did some LTE hunting down at UTD, near Coit and Frankfort and got some great speeds: crossed PGB Hwy (190) and saw it drop significantly: then .5 miles more almost at 3g-like speeds (Central Market): then .5 miles more and was at 3g: Sorry for the geographic 'descriptions' I lost my Speedtest Lat/Long data, but at least I had already uploaded the screen shots. [Edit] In looking at the NV Sites complete post, I am thinking the sprint heat map of 4g lte is a bit optimistic for my area, but I have to say that I really appreciate the resources of this site and the s4gru sponsorship was the best money I have spent on my edu-ma-cation in a long time!
  13. Hello from Plano, TX, specifically, around 33.0492,-96.759. I'm using a Galaxy Nexus, and so far, very little LTE love for me in my part of town. Surprised a bit, as the LTE map in my part of DFW is full on 'red'. I'm getting a strong 3G (SID 4120) Anyone in town near me getting LTE? Couple of other questions; Any PRL advice? I'm on 'stock' 24006, and have used a few, like 00001 , but didn't know if anyone had any favorited. Also, other than roaming, and since I don't think my geography uses 800SMR SIDs, not sure if I need to mess with mine. Finally, anyone have any specific Plano/ North Dallas resources like maps or sites they'd recommend? Thanks for the community.
